Did God Only Inspire the Original Autographs of the Bible?

By David J. Stewart | September 2007 | Updated June 2018

"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever."
—Psalm 12:6-7

No! We do have God's inspired and preserved Word today—the King James Bible. The Bible was completed with the Book of Revelation in A.D. 96. The first bound Book of the Scriptures (called a codex) was produced on parchments (animal skins) in the 2nd century. The Bible was a BINDING COLLECTION OF COPIES OF PREVIOUSLY WRITTEN AUTOGRAPHS. Thus, it is clear that a copy can be inspired, for that was all the early church elders had to work with.

“The Bible is not the inspired, inerrant and 100% historically true words of God. ... If we would destroy the Christian religion, we must first of all destroy man’s belief in the Bible.” —Voltaire (French philosopher and former unbeliever 1694-1778 - He now knows better [in Hell])

As one liberal theologian pointed out in his review of Harold Lindsell’s, The Battle for the Bible, the only real difference between the conservative and liberal positions on the Bible is that the conservatives say the Bible USED TO BE inspired and inerrant, whereas the liberal says it NEVER WAS inspired or inerrant. BOTH positions agree that the Bible IS NOT NOW inspired or inerrant.

As brother Daryl Coats so aptly says in his article The Two Lies: “If the Bible was inspired only in the original manuscripts, no one in the entire history of the world has ever had an inspired Bible. The original autographs of Job and the books of Moses had disappeared more than a thousand years before the first book of the New Testament was written, so no one has ever owned a complete Bible made up of the 'divine originals.' Nor, has anyone ever owned a complete New Testament made up of 'inspired originals,' because the originals were distributed among more than a dozen individuals and local churches.”

Some “experts” today (who think they're smarter than God) claim that a copy [translation] of God's Word cannot be inspired, but that is untrue. Yes, a translation of the originals can be inspired. “Inspiration” means that God got a hold of the head of those men, the heart of those men, and the hand of those men, and guided them to say what He wanted them to say!

Consider that when Matthew quotes Isaiah 7:14 in Matthew 1:23, he alters the text somewhat:

Although the wording is different, and a different number of words used, we clearly see that Matthew 1:23 is just as inspired as Isaiah 7:14. Matthew faithfully conveys the meaning of Isaiah 7:14. Likewise, the King James Bible faithfully conveys the meaning of the autographs, and its words are thus inspired.

In Matthew 5:18 Jesus said, “Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Someone once asked Dr. Jack Hyles (1926-2001), “Brother Hyles, do you believe the Bible is inspired Word-for-Word?” Brother Hyles replied, “I believe in jot and tittle inspiration!” A “jot” and “tittle” are the smallest grammatical marks in the Greek language (similar to the dot above the English letter “i.” It is plain to see from Jesus' Words that the integrity of the Scriptures is a big deal to God. In fact, Psalms 138:2 declares... “for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” The reason WHY is obvious to see, that is, because God's name is only as true as His Word. Philippians 2:9-10 says that there is no name any higher in the universe than the holy and precious name of JESUS; yet Psalms 138:2 says the Words of God are even higher. “for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”

I agree with pastor Jack Hyles 100% who stated:

“I must have every Word if I speak His message. If I didn't think I had a perfect Bible I'd close this one, walk out that door, I'd never walk in the pulpit again.” Dr. Jack Hyles

In Matthew 4:4 Jesus said, “It is written [quoted from Deuteronomy 8:3], Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” If I am to live for God, then I need an “EVERY WORD” Bible. From these Scriptures, it is abundantly clear that those imposters today who say that we don't have God's Word, and that all Bible translations are flawed at best, are LIARS!

Please listen to the excellent MP3 sermon by Dr. Peter Ruckman titled, “Why I Believe The King James Bible Is God's Word!

One of my heroes of the Christian faith, Pastor Jack Hyles (1926-2001), believed and upheld the inspiration of the King James Bible...

“I would not give, knowingly, one thin dime to a college that does not believe in the verbal inspiration of this Book I hold tonight.” —Pastor Jack Hyles, from the timeless sermon, YOU MUST GO THROUGH ARABIA”; preached October 11, 1981.

Here again, Dr. Hyles' asserts his unwavering belief that the King James Bible is inspired by God...

“Every word in this Bible is inspired by God almighty!”

We Do Have God's Inspired Words Today in the King James Bible!

Many apostate so-called “Bible scholars” today claim that we DON'T have God's inspired Words. WE DO I TELL YOU! WE DO, IN THE KING JAMES BIBLE!!!

The introduction to the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible confesses that it “falls short” of being “perfect,” and the NIV certainly does! However, the translating committee of the NIV also claims that “ALL” Bible translations today “fall short” of perfection. The translators of the NIV wrote in the preface, “Like all translations of the Bible, made as they are by imperfect man, this one undoubtedly falls short of its goals.” It falls short of being God's Word too!

The translators of the NIV are telling us that no one has God's Word today, that all translations are flawed and have errors in them. Do you really believe that the same God who spoke the universe into existence is incapable or unwilling to preserve His Word for today's generation? God promised in Psalms 12:6-7 to preserve His Word until all generation. If God has preserved those inspired Words for every generation, then His Words are still inspired today. Please read, “The Inspiration Of The Almighty In The King James Bible!

The NIV translators claim that we are all at the mercy of imperfect men to give us a reliable Bible, but what about a sovereign and omnipotent God? God gave us the King James Bible. This is clearly evidenced by its loyalty for the Lord. All modern versions attack Jesus' deity, the Godhead, Jesus' sinlessness, the blood, et cetera.

Psalm 12:6-7 is a promise from God, that He would PRESERVE His inspired Words unto all generations and forever... “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

The NIV translators deceitfully changed “from” to “us,” thus making the believer the object of preservation instead of the Words of God. However, verse 6 clearly evidences that God is speaking about HIS WORDS which are as PURE as silver tired in an earthen furnace 7-times. Today's Bible corrupters (butchers) have perverted the Words of the living God.

For any pseudo (false)-scholar to deny the inspiration of the King James Bible is to deny the inspiration of the Bible altogether. Certainly, I don't believe in double-inspiration, i.e., I don't believe that God spoke His Words to the King James translators as they translated the Bible. However, I do believe in preserved inspiration. I do believe that the King James translators produced an inspired text from the inspired texts they had to work with. If someone translates the King James Bible into Spanish to witness to someone, the Spanish words are still inspired because God's Words are inspired. God never inspired a language; but rather, His Words are inspired.

King James Bible Inspiration (a great MP3 defense of the Christian faith by Pastor David Baker)

Inspiration is Eternal, Not Merely Temporal

The Bible proclaims in 2nd Timothy 3:16-17, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” That beautiful word “INSPIRED” is the source is much theological debate worldwide. To no surprise, every Bible corrupter claims that “inspiration” only refers to the original manuscripts (or autographs), of which NONE exist today anywhere in the world. The Greek word for inspiration in 2nd Timothy 3:16 is theopneustos, which refers to more than just the giving of God's Word. It also includes the life-giving breath of God that operates through His words...

God breathed the Scriptures into existence, and God breathed life and vitality into the Scriptures. Both of these statements are clearly true, taught unmistakably in the Word of God. When Paul wrote in II Timothy 3:16 that “all Scripture is theopneustos,” he was necessarily implying the first (which fits with the etymology of the word), but the primary focus of his statement was on the second. He was describing a spiritual vitality, living and life-giving, which is not at all limited to the original autographs but exists even in accurate translations. The consensus over many centuries that the word should be translated “inspired by God” or “given by inspiration of God” is correct.

Also, the following helpful information is from Greek scholar John Krinke, taken from his helpful book titled, “What Happened To Bible Faith?”...

I believe that inspiration is not a process but an entity, an eternal entity, a fact or deed. If the KJV translators had believed it was a process they would have translated II Timothy 3:16 “pasa graphe theopneustos” as “All scripture is God breathed.” In that sentence God breathed is an adjective, or present participle used as adjective, which describes the noun scripture. A verbal adjective would imply a becoming, but the Word did not become. He is. But the translators, and their English predecessors, were led to avoid that rendering, and I believe they knew in their hearts that inspiration was an eternal entity, a noun. Even though the phrase “by inspiration of God” describes scripture it is at least equally valid to look at it as a noun which is the object of the sentence. Here Paul could not have been speaking to Timothy of any original manuscripts. Those of the Old Testament were gone. And since II Timothy was probably Paul’s last epistle much of the New Testament already had been written. Graphe in this verse means scripture of both testaments. The Holy Ghost said that Timothy had known the scriptures, and so he had them before him from childhood.

The word theopneustos was given by the Holy Ghost to Paul. It is unique. It appears only once in the New Testament and is only infrequently seen in earlier pagan Greek writing. Some defenders of the KJV believe that theopneustos is a “verbal adjective,” essentially a past participle. That belief is more compatible with the concept of inspiration as a process which occurred in time, that is, a becoming. They say that “pasa graphe theopneustos” means all scripture is God breathed. If theopneustos is a verbal adjective the translation should be “God breathed” and not “given by inspiration of God.”

...Scripture is eternal and is given to all, out of every nation. And in the same way the plan of redemption is eternal and given to all, out of every nation. The Bible says Jesus is the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, from eternity. The Word that became flesh was eternal. It follows that the word of God which we have before us is also eternal. When God breathed the breath of life into Adam he became a living soul; we see the same statement made in Job by Elihu. The breath of God came upon something already completed. Likewise when God breathed His word from eternity inspiration was completed. In I Corinthians 2:7 Paul says that the wisdom he preached and wrote “God ordained before the world unto our glory.”

...The KJV translators did not claim inspiration for their work because they did not need to. In their day it was generally understood that the Bible was inspired, and to them it was also clear that the Bible was now English and had been since at least the day of Wycliffe; that the Greek and Hebrew already had served their purpose and had long been properly put into English, perhaps as early as Tyndale. The true church, even in the middle ages, has always had inspired scripture before it. An omniscient, omnipotent God would not have allowed anything else.

The word “inspired” signifies “IN-SPIRIT,” that is, God's Holy Spirit breathes through His words to man!!! Jesus proclaimed in John 6:63, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” Those living “words” cannot possibly lose their “Spirit” and “life” simply because they are translated into a different language. “Inspired” is to in-breathe, and to breath is both the means and evidence of life, for as soon as a person ceases to breathe he is 100% dead. Therefore, the Holy Bible is empowered by the very life of God's Holy Spirit, and is a Living Book. Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

The old English word “quick” means “alive.” When a mortal man authors a book, it is just a normal book, only as reliable as are men in character, truth and accuracy. Men are imperfect, as are their writings. Men’s books are like themselves—dying creatures; but God’s Book is like Himself—it “liveth and abideth for ever” (1 Peter 1:23). When a man writes a book, it cannot speak for God, it can only speak for a man. But the King James Bible speaks for God, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2nd Peter 1:21). The King James Bible is inspired!!!

Modern Corrupt Bibles Which are Based Upon the Alexandrian Texts are NOT Inspired

A Bible version only ceases to be inspired when God's Words are corrupted and the message is changed. The NIV is not inspired. It is agendacized, that is, the translators had an agenda (clearly evidenced by numerous homosexuals on the translating committee who removed the word “sodomite” entirely from the Scriptures). The NIV was the first queer Bible. The word “begotten” is missing from John 3:16, one of tens-of-thousands of such omissions and tamperings with God's Word. The NIV translators based their work upon the corrupt work of Westcott and Hort, who used corrupt Greek texts from Alexandria, Egypt. Since the corrupt manuscripts they worked with were not inspired by God, neither are all the corrupt modern Bible versions which are based upon them.

Here's a chart showing the origin of the precious King James Bible verses the evil and corrupt source of modern fakes...

The King James Bible is unquestionably inspired by God, which is clearly evidenced by it's faithfulness to strongly proclaim the great foundational doctrines of the Christian faith, and it's uncompromisingly stand against sin. In sharp contrast, today's milquetoast perversions of the Bible remove, water-down, corrupt, and twist the truth.

For example: By removing the word “begotten” from John 3:16, the NIV teaches heresy. God has many sons, for every believer is called a “son” of God in John 1:12. See also Romans 8:15, “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Hence, Jesus is the only “BEGOTTEN” Son of God, but every believer is an adopted son of God. The King James Translators had it right in John 3:16!!!

We are living in evil and weird times today, when one man can scribble a paraphrase and people make it their Bible. As if the NIV wasn't bad enough, originating from the Greek works of two heretics from the 19th century (Westcott and Hort), now we've got one man butchers like Eugene H. Peterson who wrote, “The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language” (the MSG version). Max Lucado loves the MSG and quotes often from it. No wonder he's as corrupt theologically as the Federal Reserve banksters are morally. False Bibles produce false Christians. They're not saved! Their seed (Gospel) is corrupt (1st Peter 1:23). A false plan of salvation may conceive a religious humanist or a religious zealot, but there is no new birth in Christ Jesus (which is by faith alone in the Gospel alone).

As mentioned, the NIV completely removes the self-explanatory word “sodomite,” thus disassociating homosexuals from the wicked city of Sodom which God destroyed with fire and brimstone (homosexuality being their most notable sin).

The important word “Godhead” is completely removed from the NIV, as are the words propitiation, Calvary, fornication, trucebreakers, winebibbers, carnal, slothful, unthankful, effeminate, backbiting, vanity, lasciviousness, whoredom, devils, Lucifer, damnation, brimstone, and the bottomless pit (and thousands more). Modern translators are akin to back-alley-mechanics who don't know what they're doing.

Yet, ignoramuses by the droves are defending the NIV, and refuse to listen to sound wisdom, because they don't love the Lord Jesus Christ enough to defend Him (Revelation 19:13).
