Love Your Bible

By David J. Stewart

Psalm 119:113, “I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.”

Something that I think we don't hear enough nowadays is to simply love the Bible. There is no greater possession in this world that you'll ever have than the Bible. We are so unworthy.

Due to the pain in my neck, I have frequent nightmares. I know what it means to awake with an overwhelming feeling of horror, to wish I was not alive anymore, to feel indescribable mental anguish. At those times in my life, I clutch the Bible to my chest and think of favorite Scriptures as I fall off to sleep.

At those times in my life, when nothing seems to matter anymore because I am suffering in so much pain, the Word of God becomes much more precious to me, because it's the only HOPE I have, found in the PROMISES of God.

I love John 14:1-3, where the Lord Jesus has promised to prepare a PLACE for me in Heaven. I love Revelation 21:4 where the Lord promises that there will be NO MORE TEARS, DEATH, SORROW or PAIN. I love John 16:22 where the Lord promises that when He returns, He will give to me unquenchable JOY. I love 1st Corinthians 3:8 where Jesus promised that He will REWARD me for my individual labors for Him. I love Daniel 12:3 that promises that my soul-winning efforts are APPRECIATED in Heaven. I love Romans 10:15 that calls my feet, BEAUTIFUL, for being a soul-winner. I love Ephesians 3:15 where God tells me that I have a FAMILY in Heaven. I love the Bible. I have a HOPE. I don't hope; I have a hope. I know God will honor His promises. My faith is in Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God, Who is my hope (1st Timothy 1:1).

What a precious gift from God! We are so blessed and fortunate to have the complete Bible. The saints in the Old Testament didn't have a complete Bible. They had the Law of Moses, but they didn't have the entire Word of God as we do today. Tragically, so many people today, even born-again Christians, fail to realize what they have in their hands. The Bible is so precious! I love the Bible so much.

2nd Peter 1:4 tells us that the Promises of God are PRECIOUS . . . “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and PRECIOUS PROMISES: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” Amen!

I would encourage any of you who are struggling in life, sleep next to your Bible. Take it with you to sleep. Make the Bible your best friend, and in so doing, you are clinging to the Lord Jesus, Who is the Living Word. Revelation 19:13, “And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God.” John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” Jesus is the Creator. Jesus is the Living Word; the Bible is the Written Word.

Someone has said that Jesus and the Bible are twins. I like that. Jesus is the incarnate Word of God. If you want to know God, then learn your Bible. Philippians 2:5, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” The way to have the mind of Christ is to have a Biblical mind. Hebrews 1:1-2, “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds.”

It's amazing how someone can study the Bible for years, and yet miss so many truths. It's because they haven't lived the Bible. Many Scriptures won't make sense to you until you've been in a situation where applicable Scriptures take on new meaning. It is very important as we go through our daily lives, that we continually search the Scriptures for comfort, meaning and guidance. That's one reason why God gave us the Bible, to be a Lamp unto our feet. Psalm 119:105, “Thy Word is a Lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” The Bible is a Lamp to Light our path in this dark world of sin in which we live. The counsel of the ungodly surrounds us in society. The Bible stands alone, giving us firm hope, solid answers and surety of salvation. The Bible is an Authoritative Book, authored by an Authoritative God.

In this insane world today, you don't have to be confused. The Bible has all the answers. If you need answers that don't seem to be in the Bible, then you're missing the truth. Jesus told us in Matthew 6:20 to lay up for ourselves treasures in Heaven. Most people seek their own things and don't serve God (Philippians 2:21). Once you dedicate your life to becoming a soul-winner (Psalm 126:5-6; Proverb 11:30; 2nd Corinthians 5:10-11), then you'll begin to see life from a different perspective.

Philippians 2:15-16, “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” Amen! The Apostle Paul knew that he would be rewarded in eternity for HOLDING FORTH THE WORD OF LIFE. That's the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The word of life is the precious Gospel, that calls all sinners to believe on Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God, to have their sins forgiven. Acts 10:43, “To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins.” What a Savior!!!

The Bible is so precious, for it shows us how to be saved, how to obtain God's blessing on our lives, how to lay up treasures in Heaven and how to walk with God. 2nd Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” If the Bible is all you have, the Bible is all you need. If I lost everything in this world, I would just ask for a King James Bible. Jesus is precious! The Bible is precious! The literal blood of Jesus is precious! God the Father is precious! The Holy Spirit is precious! Amen and amen!

I love the Bible. When all hope seems gone, open your Bible. When your heart sinks into oblivion and you wish you were dead, read your Bible. Ask God to comfort your soul. The Bible is packed with so many precious and life-changing passages. Jesus has been gone for nearly 2,00 years; yet, many ingrates call Him names, attack His deity, deny His miracles and question His character.

Oh, listen my friend, Jesus is precious! If you love Jesus, then you'll love the King James Bible. All modern Bibles are corrupt. The New International Version [NIV] removes the name above every other name, Jesus, in 38 places. Why would anyone use the corrupt NIV? Get you a King James Bible and love it! Read it! Study it! Teach it! Proclaim it! Hold it to your bosom as you sleep! Carry a New Testament or a Gospel of John in your pocket! Give Bibles away! Make the Bible the most important part of your daily life. Think about the Scriptures.

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES (John 5:39).
