Did Bill Wiese Really Go To Hell?
By David J. Stewart | December 2006 | Updated February 2019
“God, who at
sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by
his Son” —Hebrews 1:1-2
No, he didn't! An evangelist named Bill Wiese has been traveling around the world, selling millions of books, and making LOTS of money by exploiting people's fear of the unknown, claiming that in 1998 he spent 23 minutes in Hell Bill Wiese is a lying religious con man! According to this website:
“Bill Wiese saw the searing flames of hell, felt total isolation, and experienced the putrid and rotting stench, deafening screams of agony, terrorizing demons, and finally, the strong hand of God lifting him out of the pit. "Tell them I am coming very, very soon!"
Wiese’s visit to the devil’s lair lasted just twenty-three minutes, but he returned with vivid details etched in his memory. Since this life-changing ordeal, he has spent the last seven years studying the Scriptures to find answers and has listed more than 150 Bible verses referencing hell.” —SOURCE
Bill Wiese disgusts me. First, because the Holy Bible exposes him as a bold-faced liar. Second, because he is exploiting Christianity to make tens of millions of dollars by selling books about his alleged 23 minutes in Hell. The Scriptures plainly teach in Hebrews 1:1-2, “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.”
We further read in 2nd Peter 1:20, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” That means no one, like Ellen G. White and Bill Wiese, can Biblically claim to have received PRIVATE visions from God. Ellen White claims that God gave her visions, appointing her as a prophetess to confirm His prophecies concerning the last days. She is a demonic liar! The Bible plainly declares in Hebrews 1:1-2, as I just quoted to you, that God speaks to us in these last days only through His Son. Jesus is the incarnate (made flesh) Word of God (John 1:1, 14). Jesus' name is called, “The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13). The Holy Bible is the Written Word; Jesus is the Living Word. John 15:7, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” The only authority that we have as believers is the inspired Word of God, which I believe to be the King James Bible in the English language.
Bizarre Unscriptural Claims
Bill Wiese make's some bizarre claims...
I found myself in the cell, and these 4 creatures were in the cell with me...
Anyway, it was all scaly. This one had scales all over its body, giant jaws with huge teeth, and claws sticking out, along with sunken-in eyes. They were just enormous. And the other one didn't looked like this at all, but it had razor sharp fins all over with one long arm and out of proportion feet. Everything was deformed and twisted and out of proportion, out of symmetry, no symmetry, one arm longer and one shorter and just odd looking creatures, horrible, horrible looking things.
And they were blaspheming God. The whole time they were cursing God. I wondered, "Why are they cursing God? Why are they hating God so much?" And then they turned their attention to me, and I felt the same hatred they had for God, they had for me also, and again I thought: "Why do they hate me? I haven't done anything to them." But they hated me with a hatred that I have never experienced on earth; way beyond what man has the ability to hate with. They absolutely hated me, and I knew they were assigned to torture me.
There were things that I am going to say, that I don't know how I knew. In Hell your senses are keener, you are just aware of more than our physical bodies are. I was aware of distances, I was aware of time, and so forth, much more than you are here. I knew these things were assigned to me, to torture me forever in this place.
I was lying on the floor in this cell and I had absolutely no strength in my body. I wondered, "Why can I hardly move, what is wrong with me?" I was just aware of no strength, and I was helplessly lying there. One Demon just grabbed me and picked me up, and threw me into the wall like a glass. He just picked me up like a glass. That was how light I was, or how strong he was. And threw me into the wall, and every bone in my body just broke. And I felt pain! I just began to lie on the floor there, crying out for mercy, but these creatures don't have any mercy at all, absolutely no mercy.
The one picked me up, and the other one, with his razor-sharp claws; he just shredded my flesh right off. He just tore it off, and had absolutely no care what so ever for this body that God so wonderfully made. It had a hatred that was so intense against me. I wondered, "Why am I alive, why am I living through this? I don't understand why am I not dead." My flesh just hung there in ribbons. And there was no blood, just flesh hanging, because life is in the blood, and there is no life in Hell. And there is no water in Hell...
Then one of the demons grabbed me, and drug me back into the cell and began all these torments again, which I really hate to talk about, because I don't like to have to re-live the torment. They began to crush my skull. One demon grabbed me and tried to crush my head. I was screaming and begging for mercy, but no mercy! About this time they each grabbed an arm and a leg and were about to tear off my legs and my arms. I thought, “I can't endure this, I can't endure this!” —SOURCE
Although compelling, and definitely frightening, there is NO Scriptural support for many of Mr. Wiese's claims. Wiese's claims of enormous sized demons with giant jaws and huge teeth with claws sticking out simply aren't taught in the Word of God. At first I was hesitant to write this article, because Hell should scare people—because Hell is very real. The Bible clearly describes Hell as a place of horrible torment. Hell is a place of fire. We should try to scare people with the reality of Hell. Proverb 16:6, “...by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.”
However, making exaggerated claims concerning Hell only leads people to doubt and mock the Word of God. As Christians, we should protect the integrity of the Bible by never allowing anyone to twist or exaggerate It's teachings. We ought to be silent where the Scriptures are silent. We don't need to ADD to the Word of God. Bill Wiese is ADDING to the Scriptures.
Although this may seem harmlessly beneficial to some Christians, such bizarre claims are damaging to the truth. The testimony of the rich man burning in Hell in Luke 16 doesn't mention demonic monsters with fangs and sunken-in eyes. In fact, nothing is mentioned in the Scriptures about monsters in Hell. Believe me friend, if you die in your sins and go to Hell, monsters are going to be the last thing on your mind if you're being burned alive with fire and brimstone (molten sulfur)!
Also, the Bible plainly teaches that the fallen angels (demons) aren't in Hell as workers tormenting people. That false idea came from the unsaved world. Numerous Scriptures; such as Ephesians 6:12 and 2nd Corinthians 11:13-15, evidence that the demons are living amongst humanity, seeking to deceive and destroy lives. Satan is the god of this wicked world (2nd Corinthians 11:4).
The Bible teaches that some of the demons are already bound in chains in the bottomless pit (in “Tartaroo,” 2nd Peter 2:4; which is the deepest pit of Hades, a special place of punishment reserved just for demons, who are bound their in chains of darkness). Other demons are still free to do damage to the human race, and roam amongst mankind looking for people to posses (Matthew 12:44). Romans 8:9 says that the Holy Spirit lives within every believer. If you don't have the Holy Spirit, then there is a “vacancy open” sign hanging out for the Devil to move in. You are either a child of God or a child of the Devil.
Luke 11:28, “But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”
Con Man Are Professional Liars
Con Man Bill Wiese Says Shark Grabbed His Leg And Pulled Him Under Water But Left No Mark. Weise is a religious con man who makes a bunch of wild claims, none of which can be verified. I don't believe him for one second that a shark tore his buddy's leg off. And then another shark bit Bill's surfboard in half. But then he says another shark grabbed his leg with its teeth and pulled him under water, but by “a miracle of God” (which is what he calls it in the preceding video link), left no mark on his leg. What a liar!!! Con man are professional liar!
One common tactic used by professional liars is to combine truthful things with their lies, to add credibility. This is why Bill Wiese continually quotes from the Holy Scriptures, to make it sound like his lie is true. Nearly everybody who goes to church believes that the Holy Bible is true. So by quoting a bunch of Bible verses, it causes people to let down their good senses and become off-guard. Mr. Wiese travels around the world lecturing, especially the United States, deceiving people in the churches with his bogus story about spending 23 minutes in Hell. I can tell you assuredly that is where he is very likely going!!!
By pretending to be a Gospel minister, Bill deceives people to believe that his bogus story about spending 23 minutes in Hell must be true. The plain fact is that we don't know what he saw, or didn't see, and he fully knows it! Thankfully, we DO KNOW from the inspired Word of God (from Hebrews 1:1-2 and 2nd Peter 1:20) that Bill is a big liar, who didn't receive a vision from God about Hell. Remember, Bill says that God sent him this vision, so that he could use it to warn others and lead them to salvation. So then why is Bill selling books and making millions of dollars from it? Do you think for one second, that the same God who calls “the love of money the root of all evil” (1st Timothy 6:10), would send a vision to a man (contrary to what God said in His Word), to enable him to sell books to make lots of money? If you do, I feel sorry for you dear reader!
TOP TEN SECRETS OF EFFECTIVE LIARS! One of the 10 “secrets” of effective lying in the preceding link is to, “KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE.” Nearly every con man knows how gullible churchgoers are! They also know that humans are naturally curious about the afterlife, saved and unsaved alike. But particularly, con men know that church people have a weakness, and that is their love for the Word of God. Nothing is more dear to a person who attends church, especially a true Christian, than the blessed Holy Bible. So when a con man starts quoting from the Scriptures, church people will naturally let down their God and trust him. Bill Wiese exploits this weakness to sell his deception and get money from people!
Pedophiles often target children in churches, because they know that churchgoers are sweet, trusting and loving people. Pedophiles also target smaller towns, where people are more trusting, and the police oftentimes are not on guard for such things. In the same way, con men target churches where they know people are easily deceived if you exploit their love for the Word of God, the dearest thing to their heart, to take away their money! Bill Wiese disgusts me! I wouldn't want to stand in his shoes on judgment day when he faces God!
Bill Wiese Preaches a False Plan of Salvation
No doubt some religious people think that Bill Wiese is not doing any harm. I mean, after all, isn't it a good thing that he is scaring people to compel them to get saved? There are numerous problems with what he is doing:
First, he is a liar and that is evil.
Second, God doesn't speak to us through visions today.
Third, Bill Wiese preaches a counterfeit plan of salvation.
Fourth, millions of people are being driven further away from the Gospel, because of Bill's bizarre unscriptural claims and lies!
Fifth, God never helps a man become a millionaire by exploiting Christianity to do it!
Sixth, the Holy Bible is our final and only authority in all matters of faith, morality and life.
Seventh, Bill Wiese's ungodly love of money encourages other wicked men to do the same thing he is doing!
People are so gullible that they have made Bill a millionaire! His blasphemous book has become a New York Times Bestseller! False Prophet Bill Wiese Teaches False Repentance, Tells People To Turn From Sin To Be Saved! Bill says to be saved, a person must be willing to turn away from their sins. That is not Bible repentance, that is human reformation! No one ever got saved who thought they had to turn away from their sinful ways to be saved. You get saved by acknowledging that you are a guilty sinner, and believing the Good News (Gospel) of Jesus Christ crucified on the cross, buried and bodily risen (1st Corinthians 15:1-4).
Bill Wiese Teaches the Heresy of Lordship SalvationDamnable Lordship Salvation has infested our churches on a massive scale. Here is Bill Wiese's Gospel invitation:
The Bible is real plain, we are all sinners, and whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. Jesus said if you will confess me before men, publicly, then I will in turn; confess your name before my heavenly Father and the Holy angels. But if you deny me before men, I will deny you before my Father. I want to ask you to do something. If you've never publicly, in front of other people, if you've never publicly declared Jesus Christ as your Savior, and made Him the Lord of your life, or if you're unsure whether heaven is your eternal home, remember Jesus hung naked on a cross, in a market place, he hung there for you, He endured your shame. —SOURCE
As you can see, the basic plan of salvation is given; but Mr. Wiese ADDS (i.e., perverts) the gospel of Jesus Christ when he mandates “publicly” declaring Jesus and making Jesus “the Lord of your life” to be saved. All a person needs to do to be saved is to come as a hell-deserving sinner to Jesus Christ for forgiveness. All Jesus asks is that we BELIEVE on Him (John 3:16). Lordship Salvation requires people to surrender to Christ to be saved, ceasing from one's sins; thus adding works to faith.
Lordship Salvationists, such as John MacArthur all speak in double-talk. They claim to believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone; but then they teach that a person cannot be saved if they don't make Christ their Lord. My friend you don't make Jesus Lord... HE IS LORD!
Biblical repentance means a “change of mind,” not necessarily a change of lifestyle. The changed life comes later as a person GROWS in the Word of God (1st Peter 2:2). A changed life is the FRUIT of genuine repentance (James 2:18-21); and not a part of the ROOT of saving-faith (Romans 4:5-6). If you add as much as drinking a cup of water to faith alone in Jesus Christ for salvation, then you've fabricated a false gospel and a damnable heresy. Salvation is received, not achieved. Salvation is receiving, not giving. Eternal life is the gift of God—freely offered (Romans 10:13) and freely received (Revelation 22:17).
Bill Wiese Claims God is a Liar
Listen to what Bill Wiese claims...
I found myself in the cell, and these 4 creatures were in the cell with me. I didn't know they were demons at the time, because I went there as an unsaved person. God took it out of my mind that I was a Christian. I didn't understand why, but He explained it to me on the way back. These creatures, I didn't realize that they were demons, but they were enormous. They were about 12 or 13 feet tall, one you will see in the video. One of the people that gives their testimony, he saw the same demon that I did. So you will see what one actually looks like. There is a really good picture of it in the video where one guy was drug up to the bars of Hell. It's Kenneth Hagan's testimony. —SOURCE
Mr. Wiese states: “God took it out of my mind that I was a Christian.” What? This is deception! Why would God do such a thing and violate His own Word? The Bible declares in Titus 1:2 that God cannot lie. Eternal life is a free gift from God (Romans 5:15; 6:23). Why would Jesus Christ even pretend to take away the gift of eternal life from one which He has saved? Jesus would never pretend to be a liar. God would never pretend to break His promise in order to scare someone. Bill Wiese is a dangerous man theologically!
Listen to the precious words of Jesus in John 10:28, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” Bill Wiese would lead us to believe that God pretended to send him to Hell, breaking His PROMISE of eternal life. Mr. Wiese claims he didn't know why he was being tormented until afterwards. Remember, Bill Wiese claims this was no dream, but an actual experience (a real vision) which he encountered. Is God a liar? No Mr. Wiese, you are the liar, not God. God has promised eternal life to all who believe upon His only begotten Son for the forgiveness of sins (John 3:16). God would never forsake us, making us believe that He had abandoned us, not even for one second (Hebrews 13:5).
To no surprise, the same website advertising Bill Wiese's alleged experience in Hell is also promoting the false prophet Kenneth Hagin, who also claims to have been to Hell and back...
“In April 1933 during a dramatic conversion experience, he reported dying three times in 10 minutes, each time seeing the horrors of Hell and then returning to life.” —SOURCE
A video is available from cuttingedge.org which shows Kenneth Hagin hissing like a serpent while guests slither out of their chairs with laughter. I uploaded a lengthy video to YouTube called, “TV PREACHERS EXPOSED!” It is an excellent but disturbing view into the shocking world of deception and con men in the ministry! The techniques and words show the Satanic influence in Mr. Hagin's ministry. This video shows many evidences of demon possession — all done in the name of Jesus!
Satan Can Deceive People Through Dreams and Visions
Here is an excellent quote from Dr. Max D. Younce's helpful book, I'M SO GLAD YOU ASKED!...
Can Satan Deceive Us With Visions and Dreams?
Question: I am a Christian and my friends tells me that God gives him dreams and visions. Could this be Satan trying to deceive him?
Answer: Yes, Satan is a master at counterfeiting the Lord. One of his masterpieces of counterfeiting God was in the dream or vision he gave to Eliphaz to instruct Job concerning his trials. In the dream Satan posed as God; but, the deception was that the advice and false accusations did not apply to Job.
Follow with me Eliphaz's dream (See Job 4:12,12, and 16.),
“Now a thing was secretly brought to me... In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men. Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: It stood still...an image was before mine eyes, and I heard a voice saying.”
The following is the advice to Job from the dream.
“I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:” (5:8).
“He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the forward is carried headlong.” (5:13)
Job answers:
“To him (Job) that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend...My brethren have dealt deceitfully...” (6:14,15).
Eliphaz to Job:
“For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty. Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee:”
Job answers Eliphaz:
“But he (God) knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.” (23:10,11).
Now God rebukes Eliphaz for applying Satan's dream to Job in Chapter 42, Verses 7,8,
“...the Lord said unto Eliphaz, the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee,... for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. (7) “Therefore...go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering: and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.” (8)
You should read the whole account for yourself. Satan deceived Eliphaz into thinking he (Satan) was God, applying his (Satan's) words to Job, which scenario God had nothing to do with. God harshly rebuked Eliphaz for being deceived by Satan and perpetrating his lie to Job.
Visions and dreams are deceptive; but, God's Word is always true. In John 14:6,
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me (Christ).”

Divine Revelations?
Are there divine revelations today? Does God speak face-to-face with certain people? No! But the people who operate the website at www.spiritlessons.com believe so, and they promote Bill Wiese's bizarre claims:
"Dedicated to people who have been given DIVINE REVELATIONS, (Face to Face) encounters & visitations with Jesus Christ; and the important message they were given. (For some reason these testimonies have been buried and ignored, among all the other Christian Media?!?)" —SOURCE
We read in Hebrews 1:1-2, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son." How does God speak to us? Through His Son, who is THE WORD OF GOD (John 1:1; Revelation 19:13). Jesus is the Living Word which came down amongst men in the flesh (John 1:14; 1st Timothy 3:16).
If you want to find God today, and hear from God, then you MUST look to the Scriptures (John 5:39). This is the key to truth, for the Word of God is truth (John 17:17). Jesus is the truth (John 14:6). Jesus Christ and the Word of God are inseparable! BEWARE of modernists who teach about spirituality and appear to be Christian, who don't teach and promote the Word of God. God doesn't speak to any individuals today through private revelations, as He did in the Old Testament. The Word of God is complete! Such false prophets as Ellen G. White of the Seventh-Day Adventists, and Joseph Smith of the Mormons, were demonically inspired. They both made claims of having received "divine revelations" from God, but they are both LIARS! Hebrews 1:1-2 plainly states that God speaks to us today ONLY through THE WORD OF GOD.
So why do people claim to experience bizarre revelations and visions that no one else has? In a word, MONEY! The average person is woefully IGNORANT of God's Word, and is therefore susceptible to the tricks of the Devil. These people are suckers for every religious charlatan who claims to have a special connection with God. Don't you believe it! The Word of God plainly states in 2nd Peter 1:20, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation."
Bill Wiese is making money from the sale of his books, videos, speaking engagements, et cetera. It's sad that people don't have any interest in the Word of God—until some nut claims that there's a secret computer code in the Bible, or that he saw 13 feet demons in a vision with claws and giant teeth. The reason why the claims of Bill Wiese (and others like him) have been totally ignored is because they SHOULD be ignored. Let the Bible speak for Itself. We don't need any new revelations, and the Bible never tells us to look for them. Hebrews 1:1-2 tells us that God speaks to us in these last days through HIS SON (i.e., the WORD OF GOD).
Demons Who Pretend To Serve GodI can assure you Biblically that Bill Wiese DIDN'T go to Hell. Many false prophets today are presenting some distorted version of the gospel message. They are rotten apples propagating a perverted religion of greed, Lordship Salvation, and ecumenicalism.
There's a very interesting passage of Scripture to consider in Acts 16:16-18, “And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.”
This demon-possessed woman was seemingly of God, trying to encourage people to hear the gospel; yet, she was of the Devil and only mocking Paul's soulwinning efforts. Paul perceived this and commanded the evil spirit to depart. Likewise, Benny Hinn's website presents a basic gospel, which every hellbound Catholic would agree with. Hinn is openly Catholic and has endorsed praying to the hoax of Our Lady of Fatima on the Larry King Live show. Clearly, Benny Hinn is a false prophet on his way to Hell and damnation. The Bible says in 2nd Peter 2:3 that their “judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.” In other words, evil televangelists are already under the judgment and damnation of a holy God, it's just a matter of when payday is going to arrive. PAYDAY SOMEDAY!!!
It is very important to understand that just because someone preaches from the Bible doesn't mean that they are saved. Judas was one of Christ's very own Apostles, but he was unsaved and had an evil heart. Judas played the part for his own personal gain. Increasingly, we are seeing false prophets exploit the gospel for their own greedy gain and benefit. Bill Wiese is no different. This is how ruthless false prophets have become nowadays.
There's just something eerie about these televangelists who preach the gospel, while raking in tens-of-millions of dollars in profits. Pat Robertson is a demonic prophet. The truth is that they're as unsaved as can be, and they're just exploiting the gospel message for their own gain. According to Pat Robertson, the Pope is a man of “deep spirituality.” You've got to be kidding Mr. Robertson! And you call yourself a “Christian”? The Pope is the leader of the biggest false religion in the world, Catholicism! For Robertson to speak such gleaming words of praise toward such a satanic imposter as the Pope, reveals that Robertson is in league with the Devil himself.
No born again Christian who loves the Lord would ever praise the Pope, who is leading one billion people straight into Hell. Pat Robertson praises the Pope because he'd be off TV very fast if he criticized the Pope. Satan uses man's love of money to control the world. Pat Robertson has sold out to Satan! So keep this in mind when you hear some TV preacher presenting the Gospel, because there's a good chance he doesn't believe a Word of It. Benny Hinn rakes in over $100,000,000 a year by exploiting the gospel. James Robison took in $50,000,000 last year. Joyce Meyer says that it's her mission to teach unsaved non-Christians how to enjoy life. It's sickening! They don't know God, and don't want to know God...they just want your money! They are masters of deception who know just what to say, when to say it, and how to say it to get your money.
Please Don't Go to Hell
Many foolish people today claim that Hell is only a myth. I certainly am not trying to minimize the horrors of Hell by exposing Bill Wiese. In fact, I am doing just the opposite. It upsets me when preachers exploit the truth to make money. Millions of people are flocking to Bill Wiese, making him wealthy, looking for some special revelation about Hell not found in the Scriptures. Why is it that the Bible is not enough for people? Why do people need to hear spectacular claims of private revelations from God. There are no such private revelations from God today. 2nd Peter 1:20, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” No one can claim special revelation from God. Everyone has the same Bible, and the same Commandments, and the same Word of God to live by.
Hell is a place of fire and torment. We read in 2nd Thessalonians 1:8, “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Are you willing to risk your eternal destiny on the assumption that there is no Hell?
The Word of God is very clear concerning the future eternal destiny of all unbelievers... “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Doesn't it strike you as more than coincidental that the Bible is perverted by nearly every false religion? Why is the Bible under so much attack today? The answer is obvious, because it is GOD'S WORD! Everything in this life points back to the inspired Word of God, whether it be secular history or genuine science. The Bible is God's inspired Word!
Everywhere the Apostle Paul took the Bible's gospel message, either REVIVAL or RIOT broke out. If you've never been saved, then I plead with you to do so by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive your sins by His shed blood (1st Peter 1:18-19).
