Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet

By David J. Stewart | May 2018

1st Peter 1:18-19, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

In short, there were two film makers making a film about homeless people in London in 1970. Sometimes the homeless people would break into drunken song. There was an elderly man there though, who didn't drink, and the film makers recorded him singing it, just by chance, nothing rehearsed.

One of the film makers, Gavin Bryars, when playing it back in his house, realized that the singing was in tune with his piano. He wrote a little impromptu improvisation to go with it. He then took the recording of the elderly man singing to the Leicester Fine Art studio, and playing and recording it on a continuous loop, left open the door to the recording studio, which opened up to a busy painters studio. He went to have a coffee, and when he came back, he was surprised that the atmosphere was subdued, people were moving quietly, and some of the painters were sitting on their own, sobbing quietly. He then realized that it was the affect of the elderly homeless mans simple song, on the people that were there. He then recorded a simple orchestra to it, with the song on a continuous loop.

The song is a simple song, but, it shows that when it comes down it, faith is all we have in life. 1st Timothy 6:7, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.”

Gavin Bryars - Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet (1975)

Here's the story about the song:

Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet

The Christian web visitor (and my friend) in Europe who sent me this video also had this to humbly say:

Brother, I don't know what happened to the fundamental churches. I don't know, maybe money, prestige, fame, acclaim, or the seduction of formal worship got a hold of things? I don't know brother.

But brother, if I may say, with life's increasing pressures, 24 hour life styles, sin and disappointment everywhere, hey :) Did you know that in the UK, even just a few decades ago, there were only 3 TV channels, and all 3 CLOSED for shutdown all night? It's true. I think that '24' TV, set up this '24' hour lifestyle, and increasing TV channels, seemed to go hand in hand with the drive to have increased 'choice', which is really increased confusion in my humble opinion.

I may be wrong, but I do believe 'old time' ways of living, waking up with a smile, having love in our hearts, thanking the Lord for our day. Simple humble faith. Being content with the simple things in life. 1st Timothy 6:8, “And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” 1st Timothy 6:8 is the key to keeping our heart pure, and, although this life WILL be hard, keeping ourselves humble, keeps us with the Lord, keeps our soul, safe. Hey! People can have a good day with very little, and a bad day with very much.

Maybe these simple things are the key to keep ourselves safe, and even, for churches to remain safe. Humble and content with the simple things in life, ha :)

I couldn't agree more! Amen!

Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet

Never failed me yet
Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet
There's one thing I know
For He loves me so
Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet
Never Failed Me Yet
Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet
