Pulp Fiction Movie ADDS to the Scriptures
By David J. Stewart
In a 1994 movie, Pulp Fiction, starring Samuel Jackson (Jules) and John Travolta (Vincent), Jules makes a quote from Ezekiel 25:17 throughout the movie. The problem is that it's not what the Bible says. They've ADDED to the Bible. Here's the quote Jules repeatedly makes in the movie . . .
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."
Now here's what the King James Bible says in Ezekiel 25:17 . . .
"And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.
I've looked at other versions of the Bible as well and none of them say anything even remotely close to what is stated in the movie. The Bible, God's Word, sternly warns against adding or subtracting from what God has said . . .
“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”
—Deuteronomy 4:2It is no trifle matter to corrupt the Scriptures and say things that God did not say. What right does some Hollywood movie script writer have to alter the Scriptures because it SOUNDS GOOD in a movie? They have no right. Whoever changed the Bible in Ezekiel 25:17 for the sake of making a movie is in serious trouble with God. The actors, producers and everyone involved in the making of the movie are in trouble with God.
You don't tamper with God's Word. It is a serious matter with God. In fact, Psalm 138:2 tells us that God has magnified His Word above His name . . .
“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” —Psalm 138:2
The reason why the Bible is so important is because God's reputation and holiness is only as reliable and trustworthy as His Word. These people nowadays going around saying that a God of love would never send anyone to Hell don't believe the Bible. Hundreds of Scriptures tell us that the wicked will be cast into hellfire to be punished for all eternity. If this is not true, then the Bible is not true, which means God is untrue. This is why God magnifies His Word above His very own name. With that in mind, you can see why changing the Bible in any way would upset God greatly.
The greatest sin of our time is tampering with the Word of God. Tragically, hordes of businessmen and women have taken it upon themselves to corrupt the Bible, by adding and diminishing what God has said, in order to make lots of money. The godless New International Version (NIV) of the Bible has sold over 300,000,000 copies. That equates to BILLIONS of dollars in revenues. Bible corrupting is a lucrative business.
It is a woeful sin to change the Bible in any way, especially when done so to make a buck or enhance a movie script. Have they no shame? Truly, the Words of Jesus ring clearer today than ever before . . .
