Here Am I Lord, Send Me
By David J. Stewart
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” —Isaiah 6:8
First, let me give you a brief history of Old Testament Israel. The book of Isaiah (748-700 B.C.) concerns the Northern kingdom of Israel, whose capital was Samaria. Israel began with king Saul, then David, then his son Solomon. When Solomon died there was civil unrest because his son Rehoboam intended to heavily tax and burden the people (1st Kings 12:11), so they revolted (1st Kings 12:19) and the nation of Israel divided into two. Solomon's son remained in Jerusalem with two of the tribes, but Jeroboam journey with ten of the tribes to the North to go their own way. An easy way to remember this is: Rehoboam remained; but Jeroboam journeyed.
And so we have different prophets whom God sent to the different kingdoms. Isaiah was sent to preach to the Northern kingdom about 150 years before Jeremiah, Daniel and Ezekiel were sent to preach to the Southern kingdom, whose capital was Jerusalem. Ezekiel and Daniel were both taken into captivity, who dwelt amongst the captives in Babylon for 70-years. So we see that Jeremiah, Daniel and Ezekiel were all contemporaries, living at the same time; whereas Isaiah lived 150 years before them and never knew them. So Isaiah was a prophet to the Northern ten tribes.

Here Am I Lord, Send MeHere again is our text verse from Isaiah 6:8, “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
Isaiah volunteered to go forth preaching God's Word. This is a wonderful passage of Scripture. In Isaiah 6:5 we find Isaiah acknowledging his transgressions before God, living amongst a sinful and rebellious nation (just like America today). Isaiah 6:5, “Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.” In verse 7 Isaiah is forgiven of his sins. Then in verse 8 Isaiah volunteers to serve the Lord, to go forth preaching the Word of God to Israel.
Isaiah cried out to God, “HERE AM I; SEND ME.”
What a precious Scripture. Every believer ought to have the same heart's attitude as Isaiah... “I'll go Lord. Here I am, please send me.” Romans 10:15, “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” One of the saddest testimonies in the Bible, which is so true in the world today, is found in Philippians 2:20-21 spoken by the frustrated Apostle Paul, “For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.” The world hasn't changed in 2,000 years, people are still as selfish today as they were back in Paul's time. It's hard enough to find a genuine born-again Christian, let along finding a believer who loves Jesus Christ and wants to center their life upon the things of Jesus Christ.
The world is going to Hell. What are you doing about it? Do you care? You should as a Christian, because God cares (1st Peter 5:7), and He has asked for you to care too, by committing your life to God (Romans 12:1-2), and becoming a soul-winner (Luke 8:15; Proverb 11:30; Psalm 126:5-6). This Scripture has nothing to do with salvation. Eternal life is a free gift that you simply receive by faith in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, Who came into the world to SAVE SINNERS.
Ezekiel 22:30, “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” God couldn't find even one man who cared about the injustices being committed in the land, who would stand before God in PRAYER to make up the gap. There's a giant gap in America today. Wickedness is everywhere, and God wants to get the truth out to everyone of the coming judgment against sinners; but the gap remains empty because there are too few men of God like Billy Sunday and John the Baptist to bring America back to God. A quote comes to mind by the greatest preacher of the 20th century, Pastor Jack Hyles...
"Old-fashioned, Spirit-filled, Christ-honoring, sin-hating, soul-winning, Bible preaching! It is the hope of the church! It is the hope of the nation! It is the hope of the world!" —Pastor Jack Hyles (1926-2001)
Just as in Ezekiel's time, there is a gap between God and the land of America, and not enough men of God to fill it.
Read why God sought for a man to stand in the gap in Ezekiel's time. This sounds like the United States today...
Ezekiel 22:27-29, “Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.”
I can't help but think about how our nation's leaders have committed blatant treason, Communism, allowing U.S. corporations to eliminate our jobs, relocating jobs to foreign soil to exploit slave labor and avoid U.S. regulatory laws. They have shed innocent blood “TO GET DISHONEST GAIN.” They have “EXERCISED ROBBERY.”
Then on top of that, the dirty rotten Federal Reserve Banksters connived the ARM (Adjustable Rate Mortgage) scam, knowing that they control the interest rates and were going to raise interest rates (while simultaneously eliminating tens-of-millions of jobs by opening our nation's Mexico border and continuing to allow corporations to relocate American jobs to foreign soil).
In other words, the Banksters devised a wicked plot by which to sucker homeowners into refinancing their mortgage, thinking they'd save some money; when in reality the Banksters knew all along that they were going to raise interest rates in a declining economy where jobs are deliberately being taken away from Americans, so THERE'S NO POSSIBLE WAY FOR HOMEOWNERS TO PAY THEIR MORTGAGES. Just as Ezekiel 22:29 says, they have “EXERCISED ROBBERY.” This is what God was upset over. This is why God was seeking for a man to “stand in the gap BEFORE ME” for the land. Oh how we need men of God today to get down on their knees and pray, and to aggressively go soul-winning, and to rise up against the evildoers and workers of iniquity. If not us, who? If not now, when? If not here, where? Here am I Lord, send me!
And this is the most evil part, the Banksters just hired thousands of scum lawyers to process the foreclosures a.s.a.p. to ensure that you lose your home. There are MILLIONS, and I mean MILLIONS, of foreclosure homes all across America. meanwhile President Obama just gave away Billions more taxpayer dollars to the United Nations.
2nd Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. NOW MINE EYES SHALL BE OPEN, AND MINE EARS ATTENT UNTO THE PRAYER THAT IS MADE IN THIS PLACE.” Here again we are taught from the holy Scriptures about the necessity, urgency and importance of PRAYER. God said that His eyes and ears are open and attent, to the PRAYER made in this place. Isaiah acknowledged his sins in Isaiah 6:5, God forgave him in verse 7, and then Isaiah said in verse 8, “HERE AM I; SEND ME.” If Americans would get right with God, then they'd all be crying out for God to use them to do His good will. Believers don't care because they're not right with God.
There is a woeful gap in America between the God of the Bible and our nation. The very mention of “SIN CITY” Las Vegas is evidence enough of the utter wickedness, rebellion and decadent spiritual state of our nation morally. America has become a garbage pail of sexual smut, cursing in God's name, blaspheming the holy name of Jesus Christ, adultery, homosexuality, abortion, divorce, thieving, lying, and oppressing families (download MP3).
Psalm 94:16, “Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?”
Who will rise up? God still asks the same question today. God sought for a man to stand BEFORE HIM to fill in the gap in Ezekiel's time, but couldn't find anyone; and so God brought judgment upon Jerusalem and commissioned Ezekiel to preach to the Jews in captivity. God took Ezekiel by the Spirit into Jerusalem, to see the wickedness happening in the temple. The temple priests were actually worshipping the sun, a form of witchcraft (Ezekiel 8:16). Every sin imaginable had been occurring in Jerusalem, and they even claimed it was God's will for them to commit such wickednesses as murder and adultery (Jeremiah 7:9-10). This is America today. People attempt to justify the horrible abominations of abortion, homosexuality, teaching the lies of Evolution to children, divorce, stealing people's homes, strip clubs, pornography, taking advantage of people financially, et cetera. Sin can never be justified.
Throughout the Scriptures we evidence that God has always sought for his children to pray and seek His face. Isaiah volunteered to go forth preaching against the wickedness of the thieves, oppressors and the wicked. God told Ezekiel that He sought for one man in Jerusalem, but couldn't find anyone. In the days of Noah, Noah had preached the righteousness of Christ for 120-years, but not even one person got saved. Not one person listened to Noah's preaching. Only Noah and his immediate family got on the ark. How sad! No one else made it. You'd think that somewhere during 120-years of preaching the Gospel that someone would have came to Christ; but no one did. That's why God had decided to destroy the world by flood. We see how wicked the people were, when not even one would repent over 120-years of listening to God's man preach the Gospel. It is so tragic!
Jesus said that the world would once again become as it was in the days of Noah before the flood (Matthew 24:37-38). People today don't listen. They're arrogant, cocky, rude, and filled with hatred for Christianity altogether. Judgment Day is coming (Hebrews 9:27).
America Needs More Voices!
America could be saved if we had more men like John the Baptist and Billy Sunday, men who preached uncompromisingly against sin. It's bad enough that America lacks true men of God who preach against sin—it's much worse that professed Christians all across America are embracing witchcraft, homosexuality, abortion. Here's a church that even participated in a PRO-abortion march. Christianity Today is Pro-homosexual.
This is the apostate condition of America's so-called "Christians" today, and it is repulsive. America needs voices! The Bible says that there was a "voice" (singular) crying in the wilderness. In these times of increasing apostasy, it is becoming necessary for Bible-believing Christians to STAND ALONE, just as did John the Baptist. It eventually cost John his life. Truth has few friends these days.
