Bearing Precious Seed
By David J. Stewart
Psalm 126:5-6, "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."
What a wonderful Scripture! The Word of God is the precious Seed. 1st Peter 1:23, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” The gospel of God's Word is the Seed by which lost sinners are born-again.
The Hebrew word “weepeth” in Psalm 126:6 means “to lament,” i.e. “to have sorrow and grief.” Tragically, most professed Christians today couldn't care less about winning souls to Jesus Christ. They have been choked by the cares, riches and pleasures of this temporal earthly existence (Luke 8:14). Albeit, there is a small percentage of born-again believers who do carry a heavy burden over lost souls. Thank God for soulwinning believers.
The majority of people in this world are hellbound in their sins. Christians ought to have much grief over this Biblical truth. It is very sad and troubling that nearly everyone in this world will burn in the fires of Hell forever. Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Few sinners are going to Heaven, because they have never received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. It is so simple to be saved. We are SINNERS and Jesus is the SAVIOR.
Most people don't even believe in a literal Hell. They have been blinded by Satan, the god of this sinful world (2nd Corinthians 4:4). God wants everyone to get saved (2nd Peter 3:9). Jesus promised never to turn anyone away who comes to Him for forgiveness of sins (John 6:37). Acts 10:43, “To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins.” Acts 10:43 plainly teaches that everyone in the Old Testament was saved the exact same way that sinners are today, i.e., by faith in Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God. Only Jesus has the nail-scared hands and feet, so only Jesus can forgive one's sins. Salvation is only found in the precious name of Jesus (Acts 4:10).
Psalm 126:6 tells us that if we have grief and a burden over lost souls, and share the good news of the Jesus Christ crucified and risen with them, then some people will get saved. A “sheave” is a bundle gathered together from the field. God said that we would have our bundle of saved sinners if we would simply GO FORTH BEARING PRECIOUS SEED. There is no magic to winning souls. Salvation is a miracle of God; but soulwinning is simply good old-fashioned work. It is the gospel that is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16).
Our duty as Christians is to simply preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to others... going forth weeping and bearing the precious Seed of God's Word... so that we may come again rejoicing with those whom God has saved through our soulwinning efforts (1st Corinthians 3:7-8). If we as believers don't warn the wicked of the eternal judgment to come, then who will? 2nd Corinthians 4:3, “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost.”
