Judging Others

By David J. Stewart | December 2010 | Updated August 2018

Luke 6:37, “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not,
and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.”

Many people are woefully ignorant of the Scriptures. Ironically, some of the most evil people try to hide behind the Scriptures. We read in Jeremiah 7:9-10 that the Jews blamed God, claiming God wanted them to commit adultery theft and murder. Most people who condemn others attempt to use the Bible to do so. It is wickedness. There is a night and day difference between speak evil about a person verses speaking out against evil. If a person is not publicly parading their sins, we should be quite about them. We ought to expose the people who corrupt our teenagers with lesbian-loving music, teach our kids that homosexuality is acceptable, and blaspheme the holy name of Jesus Christ.

Pointing fingers is wrong. Whenever you point your finger at someone else, there are 3 fingers pointing back at you. Don't be a hypocrite. You're just as big a sinner as anyone else (James 2:10). It takes two years for a baby to learn to talk, and 70 years to learn to shut up!!!

Here are some helpful words from Pastor Bob Gray Sr. ...

We are to abstain from the appearance of evil as Christians. However, if someone does not abstain from the appearance of evil, we are not to make a judgment on that appearance. We may warn if we are the authority, but we must not judge. We are never to judge according to the appearance. John 7:24, “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

We are to judge according to the facts. Never convict people because it appears that they have done something wrong. This is what causes much of the trouble in churches.

May I introduce you to the word “mercy,” which in Scripture always comes before the word “truth.” Mercy is “not judging without truth.” Truth is what you judge. Justice is when you, if the authority, punish for what you KNOW has been done not what you suspect has been done. Mercy never judges by appearance. Proverbs 20:28, “Mercy and truth preserve the king and his throne is upholden by mercy.”

Let me give you five statements that relate to this truth.

  1. We must have righteous judgment.
  2. None is righteous, as we read in Romans 3:10, “As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one.”
  3. So we cannot judge the inside. I Samuel 16:7 says that God looks on the heart. Man cannot look upon the heart, so man cannot judge the heart. That means that man cannot judge motives. It is time for us too quit judging people’s motives
  4. God is the final judge.
  5. We can judge only what we KNOW, and that is not the inside or the unknown.

Amen! We are living in a generation of sinful critics, who unjustly usurp the roles of judge, jury and executioner! As Brother Gray rightly said, “mercy is not judging without truth.” Mercy is withholding judgment in the absence of truth! If we don't know the truth, we ought keep our mouths shut and not judge anyone! I have read horrible accusations online against faithful men of God, based merely upon speculation and unfounded rumors. That is very sinful to do! People who walk with God tend to give others the benefit of the doubt. Folks, just because a newspaper prints someone's allegations, which then becomes a citable source, doesn't mean that those accusations are true! It is very wicked to assume that something bad said about someone is true without solid evidence to back it up!

Satan Loves to Accuse Christians Day and Night!

You will never be more like Satan than when you accuse others. Revelation 12:10, “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” That is a profound and disturbing Bible verse! The ungodly newsmedia spread manure day and night! If someone is indicted for a crime (meaning that they have been formally charged but have not yet been proven guilty in a court of law), the wicked newsmedia publish the story as if it were factual data. The majority of the public assumes the bad news is true, and in 99% of cases that person's name and life are permanently tarnished and ruined. Then, a few years later (when all the damage has been done by the evil newsmedia and ungodly court system), behind closed doors that person is declared not guilty in a court of law, but that good news doesn't even make it to the local news, and the person's life is destroyed. This is how Satan operates! Jesus said the Devil is a thief who comes only to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10).

Preaching against sin ought to be against open, public and shameless sins that are paraded down the street. America is filled with such wicked people today, such as the Feminist Movement, and the Homosexual Community, and the Abortion Industry, the Contemporary Christian Rock 'N' Roll crowd, the Lordship Salvation teaching gang, the demonic Catholic Religion, and corrupt Washington D.C. politicians (Ephesians 5:11). These groups all commit blatant, open, and shameless wickedness, evidencing their utter lack of fear for the God of the Bible.

This is far different than hunting down someone you hate, digging and prying into their personal life, looking for anything and everything to assassinate their character, condemn, and destroy that person. God hates that kind of self-righteous hypocrisy and condemnation. God's harshest judgment will be reserved for those who condemn others (Matthew 6:15; 18:22-35). The Bible teaches that we ought to spend our short time on earth in fear, obeying God. 1st Peter 1:17, “And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear.” God will judge every individual Christian believer according to their own works (Romans 14:12), whether good or bad (2nd Corinthians 5:10). It matters not what one's enemies or others think or say. What matters is what God KNOWS. So forget what your enemies say about you; and instead stay busy soul-winning, living righteously for God, praying, standing against evil, and searching the Scriptures.

Most people who file for divorce attempt to claim that Jesus allows for divorce in situations of adultery; but that is not what Jesus taught. Jesus taught in Matthew 18:22 to forgive, 70 times 7. Divorce is the sin of hate, unforgiveness and hypocrisy. So many people are woefully ignorant of the Scriptures, just as Jesus said:

Matthew 22:29, “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”

God's power can save your marriage, if you will trust God and not quit.

Some people never do anything but criticize and tear down others, which is what their father Satan does. The name “Satan” means “accuser.” In fact, that's all Satan does when he's not destroying people's lives, he criticizes God's children day-and-night. Revelation 12:10, “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” I judge no man. Biblically, I expose those who publicly parade sin, try to corrupt our churches with false doctrines, and target our children with slutty music and the lies of Evolution. This is what God wants us to do (Psalm 94:16; Titus 1:10-13; Ephesians 5:11; Romans 16:17); but I never condemn anyone for their sins for that is the Bible's job alone (Romans 3:19). God says those who condemn are putting themselves in the place of God (James 4:11).

There's a fine line between exposing evil verses condemning a person for their personal sins. John the Baptist rebuked Herod for committing adultery with his brother's wife. She hated John so much that she conspired to have his head cut off, and it happened. There are many people who would like to cut my head off because of my ministry, because I uncompromisingly preach against sin and wickedness in America today. I am a very hated and loved man. I have gar more enemies than friends, as did the Lord Jesus. The mobs cried out, Crucify Him!

As believers we should judge, but judge righteously as Jesus said in John 7:24, “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” That means don't repeat gossip you read on the internet or the newspaper, or heard from someone, because it may not be true. And even if it is true, God commands us not to condemn others (James 4:11). Shut your mouth! The only time we ought to expose sinners and point fingers is when they are parading their wickedness to corrupt society, or are forcing their sinful agendas upon our children in the schools, or are infiltrating our churches by teaching doctrines of devils.

In 1st Corinthians 5:1-5, the Apostle Paul scolded the church at Corinth for not preaching against open fornication in the church. Paul was in a distant city and word got to him that open fornication was happening in the church. That is very different from someone who sins and it is a private matter. Ecclesiastes 7:20, “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” All humanity has sinned. Everyone has sinned. Why don't you expose yourself, for the sins you have committed? It's easy to condemn others, while hiding your own sins from others; but God sees your wicked heart and will deal with you in eternity. Don't think God will be mocked. Don't think that God won't fulfil His promise to judge critics with the same measure by which they have condemned others. God hates pride, arrogance, and sowing discord amongst brethren (Proverb 6:16-19).

It is not a coincidence that the men who are most scrutinized, attacked and assassinated publicly are the same men of God who stand uncompromisingly against the wicked, and preach the truth of God's Word, and are fervent soul-winners. Look what they did to Jesus, the sinless Lamb of God. Satan hates everyone, especially those who are God children. So it should not be surprising that the wicked will condemn the righteous. Jesus said that the wicked would love their own, but hate Christians (John 15:19). God forbid that a righteous person should actually commit a sin that becomes public, because Satan's children and backslidden believers will crucify that person. It is sin. We live in a dog-eat-dog world of wicked sinners (1st John 5:19; 2nd Timothy 3:1-7). We are living today in perilous times (2nd Timothy 3:1-5).

We ought to use great care in deciding what to preach against. It ought to be the sins, and not the person, that we preach against. It's hard to separate the two, but we need to make clear that we are simply taking a stand for God against something that is publicly being promoted that is wrong and sinful. The Bible is the most misquoted, misused, and misapplied Book in the world. Many hateful people twist the Bible in a sinful attempt to justify degrading their enemies, making disparaging comments, and attacking others whom they are jealous of. That is wickedness which brings the judgment of God. Jesus taught in Matthew 12:36 that God will hold men accountable for every word they speak.

Woe unto the reprobate who attacks God's man who preaches the Gospel, examining the preacher's life with a big magnifying glass, looking for even the smallest reason to discredit, attack and slander the man of God. Woe unto that person. It is tragic what is happening on the internet today. Some mighty preachers, genuine men of God, are being ruthlessly attacked and maligned on Wikipedia.com by evil scorners who hate God; but perverts like David Lee Roth of Van Halen and slutty idols like Madonna have squeaky-clean records on Wikipedia. None of the wicked have anything negative to say about the wicked; but they attempt to destroy the reputations of great preachers (some having faithfully served God for over 50-years) for crimes committed by people that once attended their church or a relative of a relative of an employee who once broke the law. It's all so evil. What a bunch of self-righteous, hypocritical, evil jerks!!!

As believers, let us be diligent to obey the Scriptures and please the Lord by taking a stand against wickedness and public sins; but let us not anger the Lord by condemning people simply because we don't like them, are jealous, or God forbid want to attack them because they are taking a stand against public sin and the wicked agendas of our generation.
