Today, Tuesday February 15th 2022 Peter Sloly chief of police in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada has resigned of his duties. Nearly three weeks after the start of freedom convoy protests throughout the country, Sloly faced criticisms in policing methods and relations with other police services in the nation's capital that was particularly affected. On Friday January 28th trucks started to arrive in Ottawa and in a matter of hours the entire stretch of Wellington Street from the Parliament to Bay Street to the west was filled in all but one lanes. For the following 18 days until today, the Ottawa Police slowly became the laughing stock after failing to take concrete actions to end the "freedom convoy" trucker's protest. A 10 million dollar class action lawsuit meanwhile was filled by residents of the downtown Ottawa core against the organizers of the convoy for noise and psychological damage. Throughout his final ordeal, Chief Sloly made regular appearances on TV in press conferences during which vague explanations were given to the public including hard to understand wording that were not common knowledge. As the convoy grew bigger and convoy base camps were deployed at numerous city blocks across downtown Ottawa, authorities repeated several times that more officers were being sent out to patrol but there were significant delays and in action taken. In fact, multiple major arteries in Ottawa are still blocked at this time Tuesday February 15th by trucks and other convoy vehicles in what seem to be a never ending occupation of the city. Aerial imagery featured in this video was filmed on Sunday January 30th 2022.
