Where does /vr/ go to hunt for old games?

I usually go to Mega Media Xchange- it's a chain of stores around the Milwaukee area. Their prices and selection are okay, but they know what they're selling so they tend to overprice the good stuff. Thrift stores used to be good, but they either have shit selection or overprice stuff. Goodwill is notorious for that.
I stay away from ebay because either you get into a bidding war with some guy with deep pockets or pay out the ass for shipping.
>>
bump

this place is pretty fast
>>
>>23581 (OP)
I wish we had stuff like that here, there's ONE flea market every month if you're lucky to even find anything there.
>>
I usually go to pawn shops, flea markets, or thrift stores.
We only have gamestop so finding retro games are kind of hard to get here.
>>
goodwill, picked up 3 psx games there 4 yrs ago, parasite eve,ff7 and RE2, 5bucks each, all opened but pristine.
>>
I go to the local flea market, but they too have started getting smart and jacking up the price on the good ones. I've recently turned to ebay and craigslist. Craigslist has become my new goto as they generally aren't as smart about what they sell.
>>
I don't anymore since I'm poor. BUT if I were to look again, I think I would probably try the following:

Second hand shops, yard sales, and places retro gamers might bring their things (conventions or whatever). I think some online communities also have trading posts, so check those, too.
>>
There's actually a retro game store very close to where I live.

I usually end up paying more than I should but I really like it for the convenience.

>my external expression when gamestop stopped selling legacy games to make room for shit like action figures, "gamer apparel", and tablets
>>
Book and Music Exchange, it's pretty much the only used vidya store in this town, though if that fails I could always go up to evansville I guess (they have another one and a few other places that sell used vidya). shame that it only really covers nintendo consoles and the playstation as far as pre-sixth gen is concerned.
>>
Strictly eBay, sadly. Pawn shops and thrift stores around here have jack shit, I don't get up early enough to hit garage sales, and we don't really have any good flea markets in driving distance.
>>
I have a couple of local shops that sell retro games in my town. Snagged a copy of Super Mario RPG a couple weeks ago.
>>
The Exchange works for me. There's a bunch of them here in Ohio and stuff.

I even got Earthbound from one of them.

If I can't find what I want there I try my best with online shopping, but they usually overprice everything online and fuck you in the butt with shipping.
>>
I've always pass that store on my way to work OP
but I never bother going inside since I just thought they were just a video store
might check it out later today
>>
I usualy go to flea markets and stuf like that.
Last year I found a man selling some nes game.I bought zelda 2 for 1,25 euros,

also are you guys familiar with the game chasers?
>>
There was an FX Game Exchange (knock-off of Game X Change, which is a bigger chain) in my town until a month or so ago. Now all that's left there are like 4 Gamestops.

At least when I'm at college there's a real Game X Change.
>>
There's two regional chains in my area that I frequent when looking for retro games: Slackers and CD Tradepost. I also go to the local auction house during their biweekly consignment sales. I can generally find some good games every now and then.
>>
Got a place called Game Dude about 10 minute drive away in North Hollywood.
Got a great collection of old and new games.
And their prices for everything for every console are on the website. Prices are slightly jewey but I don't mind supporting an awesome local game store.
>>
sometimes i visit local fleamarkters, but the neckbeards always overcharge for games by 200%
>some shitty snes game, without manual or box
>30€

But there's a small privately owned second-hand vidya store that i know of, i've been shopping there for old used games forever.
>ps1 games for 5 bucks a pop
>owner knows his shit
>sold me duke nukem 64 when i was underage because he knew i had good taste

The one in Brookfield is shit, and the one on 76th street has the biggest selection
>>
there's nothing for UK fags, no stores have older games or consoles any more, not even trade in stores, the charity stores don't stock that sort of thing ever, so ebay is the only place really.

When it's summer time, i'm gonna start going to car boot sales and hopefully have more luck. Any uk fags found much luck at car boots?
>>
We've got a locally owned retro game store that sells stuff from Atari to PS1. BUT...it's owned by a douchebag rightwing bible thumping nut job. And he'd charge out the ass for stuff. Imagine Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons...but extremely conservative. Banned people from his store left and right. It'll fold within the year.

Other than THAT place, there's this Books-A-Million owned store called 2nd & Charles. It sells second hand books, dvds, comics, and games. They usually get some REALLY cool stuff in at decent prices.
>>
Thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales, the internet if I'm REALLY desperate and I'm not getting jewed too hard.

The stores and flea markets are drying up though, sports games, sports games everywhere
>>
Geeks Etc., Game Trader, Play 'n Trade

Primarily Game Trader. Damn I love Murfreesboro
>>
I tend to go to "local" game reseller shops, but they all have eBaids, for the most part. I work across the street from an indoor flea market with a game reseller there, but I have yet to find any sort of HOLY SHIT I MUST GRAB THIS content.

I had the best fortune at yardsales in the mid-2000s, but now it's faaar too late to get good stuff at those, unless you like PS2 sports games and 3rd party controllers.

Usually buying from HeBay merchants. I tried a few local stores that sell old shit but their selection was pretty limited this time around.

Also, it's nice to see another Sconnie on here.

Also, there's a flee market every two weeks, but when there are games, it's usually just shit garage sale tier stuff.
>>
I go through a circuit of garage sales, pawn shops, flea markets, good wills, salvation armies, ebay, Kijiji and Craigslist
>>
>>24143

pls go
>>
There's a used/retro game store in my local mall. But because there's no other retro game stores around they drive prices way up for the gems. Bubble Bobble was $128.

Yup, sounds like trying to find good Genesis games out in the wild these days
>>
Leeds used to be god-tier for games. But then came the closure of the arcades and the independant games shops.

Arcadia hung around for a long time, great but somewhat expensive towards the end of it's day. The old guys closed up and now it's "Convert to Cash". It still has a lot of the old stock, though much more of it is on display. Lots of old computer, Megadrive and SNES stuff. It's easy to get overcharged, but I've occasionally haggled for stuff to get it cheap.
>>
Recently, it's just been flea markets and Goodwill. All of the dedicated retro gaming stores around here (Kennesaw, GA) are closing.

I miss you CC Gaming. ;_;
>>
>>24219
Yup, got one in Tennessee. they aren't the greatest for used games but their PS2 games are cheap
>>
There's a place here in Albuquerque called Gamers Anonymous that is really chill. Wish it could be bigger, but it's a lot better than nothing.

There's no video game stores that sell old games anywhere near me and I am not passionate enough to spend money buying them from some other country. I am satisfied enough with emulating them. I do wish I had WW3 for my NES though.
>>
The only place nearby anymore is a play n trade that thinks any noteworthy old game is instantly worth $60 minimum.

It's terrible.

>Oh hey, mario kart!
>$60.

Oh, sweet, Legend of Dragoon!
>$60

It's awful.
>>
>>24180
that's cheap in my country, damn
>>
>>24143

It's funny because it's true.

You can also fuck with the ROMs if you know what you're doing. Kind of hard and expensive to do it with actual carts.
>>
>>24295
Do you guys still have to have a gun in your house? That's a fucking awesome law.
>>
I live right in the middle of nowhere. About two cities away from me is a store called Vintage Stock. They carry lots of good shit. Overpriced, usually, but it's there. They'll generally have the best shit locked in glass cases. I go there every month or so and it's usually different, so it's always fun, even if I don't buy anything.

Seems like half the store is just CDs, though.
>>
>>24310
Ours was fucking great! I got my in-box Sega Saturn from them for $100 and NiGHTS in box for $40. I know a guy that worked there. Even HE has no idea why they closed up. It was sudden.
>>
>>24180
If he got $60 he'd be coming out decently.
>>
>>24219

Mine shut down like 5 months after RDR released. I knew it was going to happen someday just hoped it would last longer since it was in my town and I could walk there.

My town is filled with pseudo rich people so rents are laughably high
>>
I go to local garage sales, and occasionally the flea market. Garage sales sometimes have good stuff, but apparently garage sales are the worst from September-March or so which is the time that I've been looking for stuff in.

Hoping to find a lot more stuff once it warms up this more, hopefully this weekend will be good with it being spring and then the whole spring cleaning thing.
>>
>>24180
I'd give the guy 30 bucks for all of that.

Anyway, I've found two pawn stores around here that sell older games even though last I asked they're not even taking PS2 or PS games anymore even, though one sells arcade machines and pinball machines.

Last year as one of the pawn shops they had a Nintendo in the back with two zappers, two controllers and a butt load of games. I mean fucking TMNT, SMB, SMB3, Excite Bike, Punch Out, Paperboy, the box was literally half games. Think there was a copy of LoZ in there too somewhere. 40 bucks he wanted and if I had the goddamn money I would have it, but I didn't.

I want an SNES again so bad.
>>
>>24402
I also go to a local gamestore that has been here since 1994 about once a week, they usually have decent prices and they give me deals since I've been going there for 15 years or so by now. The other day I got a boxed Shadows of the Empire and Pilot Wings 64 from there.
>>
Store near me is privately owned and called G.A.M.E.S.. Owner and some employees are pretty chill but there are also some really annoying cunts who work there.
>>
Game Over Videogames. Pretty neat joint in Houston and Austin.

>>
>>23968
Didn't they go on record recently and say they were gonna go back to selling old stuff? I actually hope they don't, because they'll take trade ins away from these small places

I work in a small chain in Nebraska. I grow tired of seeing boxes of Genesis games like this all the time.

At least there is Mutant League Football in there.
>>
>>24072
okay I'll check that one out
>>
>>23581 (OP)

Living in brazil I hunt for games on some illegal stores that sell them on the street. There's this cool store who imports games too and I can get Gameboy goodies for 7 bucks.

Some times ebay can be good, I got Donkey Kong 64 there with shipping for 16 bucks, and the 3 Donkey kong land games plus shipping for about 30$.
>>
>>24476

They should open up something up here in DFW.

Too many Gamestops around here.
>>
>>23978
Louisville-bro?
Hell yeah. Book & Music Exchange is a bit pricey, however.

I usually go to Half-Price Books for my old vidya. BuyBacks also has a lot of NES and SNES stuff, as do flea markets.
>>
Has anyone ever found anything decent at Goodwill? All I've managed to find at one was a N64 bundled with Mario Party 3 for $15.
>>
>>24403
A first-model SNES with no hookups on eBay tends to go pretty cheap. Nintendo used universal AV cables with the SNES, N64, and Gamecube (sans component, natch), and AC adapters are cheap if you get the yellow-boxed Chinese jobs.
