People are 'losing hope' and getting pissed because they've announced a sword pokemon?

Okay:

[a] It's a sword possessed by a ghost, so it makes sense.

[b] You all fucking trained Rotoms that possessed lawnmowers, ovens, fridges and fans.

[c] All you Genwunner bitches have trained magnets, animated pokeballs and piles of sludge. Grow the fuck up.
>>
Why are you posting this here and not on facebook or something? We all love it.
>>
Just admit it, pokemon is dead. You're not fooling anybody. All hope is loosed.
>>
i never trained a rotom faggot

I think he's cool too. I was sure they'd go for the possessed suit of armour idea. Hexcalibur looks cool though.

Yea. I'm cool with inanimate objects. It's just the furious genwunners that complain about them, seriously, move on or die on the road. By the way, my dad works at nintendo and leaked me this picture https://images.4chan.org/vp/src/1372935203981.jpg , pretty cool if you ask me, 'cause you know, pokemon can totally be inanimate objects, I would love to train a full team of items instead of some animal based faggots.
>>

Again I say eh.

It's a sword so what, it'll act like spiritomb in some way or another

Water/Steel with Heatproof!

/v/ and /vp/ agree that Excalibur is good.
>>
Besides the resemblance to Rubilax everyone seems to at least like Hexcalibur.
>>
>>12884519
>Excalibur
>not Durandal
Seriously?

Excalibur would clearly be Fairy/Steel.
>>
>>12883936 (OP)
Here is the creative process for Hexcalibur:
>Let's have a sword pokemon!
>Cool, let's make it a sword! And give it eyes so people know it's a pokemon!
>But erm, if it's a sword with no animal features, then how will it move about?
>It errr, it floats!
>GENIUS!

I don't like the sword, but I've seen nothing but positive comments about it on here. Personally I have no problem with pokemon based off inanimate objects. Gen 2 had a ton of them: Hoothoot, Wobbuffet, Elekid, Forretress, Donphan, Remoraid, Octillery -- and it's my favourite gen for pokemon designs (inb4 johtoddler). I hope you can see the difference though, between these subtle, clever hybrid designs, and lazy one-track pokemon like Hexcalibur here. These aren't confined to one particular gen, or newer gens (gen 1 was terrible for this), but I hope you can understand why I am not impressed every time one of these turns up. Rotom is a literal ghost in the machine, and in that sense it's an exception and a smart one at that. Hexcalibur is not an separate entity that has possessed a sword. It is just. a. sword.

And swords are awesome.

I see no problems with this.
>>
>>12884648
This. My top bros are even Cryogonal, Chandelure, and Klinklang but this sword is hard to find as a Pokemon. I can't really distinguish a face, and I think that may be the biggest thing stopping me from liking it.
>>
>>12884678
Hoothoot is a clock, to emphasise the night/day feature in GSC. Donphan is a tire, though it's not often depicted this way nowadays. Octillery is an artillery cannon, evolving from Remoraid, which is a gun. Can you imagine if there was a pokemon that was just a clock with a face? Or a cannon with an eye on each side? That's what Hexcablibur is, except it's a sword so that's cool apparently.
>>

That anon said they were based, but the references are a bit more subtle than say, Vanilluxe or Klink

How do you know it's just a sword and not an entity possessing a sword, or has a story behind it? Banette was just a doll/puppet that then became a Pokemon, you wouldn't know that just looking at it.
>>
>>12884648
Hoothoot is mainly based on an owl and only secondarily based on a clock.
Monorpale is mainly based on a sword like Koffing is mainly based on a naval mine or Voltorb who is mainly based on a pokeball.
>>
>>12883936 (OP)

>>
>>12884718
I see one eye, two closed somethings, and some upside down v with two lines. If its supposed to be a mouth like Scrafty's, they could've changed the coloring a bit.
>>
>>12884714

First of all, those are all animals of some kind, they aren't literally designed around those things, ie, they don't look like the things they're based on. And I would agree with you in saying that basing a Pokemon on just a sword is pretty stupid, but it isn't just a sword, it's a possessed/cursed sword, something that pops up quite often in folklore. Did you hate Chandelure? That was just a chandelier with eyes.
>>
>>12884733
I see one open eye, two closed eyes and a mouth which is partially obscured in a manner that make sit look as though its trying to hide a chuckle.

Also, a ponytail.
>>
>>12884718

That's just the scabbard. I assume the design serves only to intimidate others. The eye on the hilt isn't part of the scabbard, but is part of the actual sword. There is just a hole in that circle so it can see while "sheathed".
>>
>>12884747

I don't think "they aren't literally designed around those things" is a meaningful distinction. I think it's the difference between a lazy design and a multifaceted one. Chandelure didn't quite sit comfortably with me, even though it's an attractive design (personal opinion). It was arguably more stylized than Hexcalibur, though on principle yes it is just as bad. "A _____ with eyes" is a theme commonly seen in shitty fakemon, pic related, but it tends to pop up a lot in official designs too. Shit happens so I'm not mad about it, I just dislike it.

Yes cursed swords are common in folklore, but that doesn't change a thing about it's design principle. It goes from being "a sword with eyes" to "a cursed sword with eyes". Maybe the latter seems a cleverer concept because "I get the reference" or whatever, but it isn't a cleverer design.
>>
>>12884648
Gen 2 is my least favorite gen for Pokémon, but I agree with this

I'm not impressed by this thing
>>
I've been asleep, where the hell was this shown?
>>
>>12884827

How do you know if this Pokemon has a lazy design or not? You know nothing about it apart from it's appearance and the fact that it's steel/ghost. Did you know what any of those other Pokemon were based on just by looking at them? No. You don't know anything about the backstory for this so you don't know if it's design is clever or not, you're just substituting facts for your own opinions.

tldr; stop claiming things when you know anything about it.

Alright, what is Monorpale based on?
I mean, it's clearly a sword, but it may be based around a legend, there must be a reason to the ghost typing
>>
>>12884697
I bet you're still trying to wrap your head around Bronzong then too, huh? made any progress in the last 7 years?
>>
>>12884925
Can you read m8? It doesn't fucking matter what the backstory is. If it has a long, excessively intricate backstory then all's well and good, you can say it has a "clever concept" and "I get the reference so smart" etc. But it's still a lazy design through having only one aspect. Concept and execution of the design are different things, and I am talking about the latter. If you want to create a pokemon based on a particular inanimate object, you have to distinguish it from that object in order that people will know it is a pokemon and not just a cartoon object. That means giving it the recognisable features of a living creature, whether that's by hybridising it with an existing animal (Donphan), or the bare minimum of giving it eyes (or anything in between). This is the bare fucking minimum needed to turn an inanimate object into a 'pokemon', which, though it may have been done intentionally, is lazy in that it requires zero inspiration.
>>
>>12885027

Not that guy, but dude, it's a haunted sword that has an eye, as most Pokemon do, and has a ghostly arm it uses to unsheath itself. There are Pokemon way fucking lazier than this, and most of them are based on animals. Calling it lazy just because it's based on something inanimate is like calling Victreebel unimaginative because it's based on a plant.

>>
>>12885099
I haven't called anything lazy just because it's based on something inanimate. Read my posts. I've even named pokemon based on inanimate objects whose designs are particularly multifaceted and complex.
>>
>>12885226
Phallic symbolism is how.

But yeah, the gijinkas are likely to be pretty easy. The sheathe shouldn't be to hard to convert into some kind of tunic or long rob, which is what most gijinkas end up wearing. Give them a ponytail and sword, and you've got it nailed.
>>
Sword? I thought it was a keychain. Or an USB drive.
>>
It'a some gay-ass fucking shit, that's what it is
>>

I'll wait for the 'dex entries to comment more upon the concept, though.

I think you've spent to long on /d/, anon. That much futa's not good for ya.
>>
>>12883936 (OP)
Well, let's admit: the design to this sword doesn't look too "pokemonish". And I am not that kind of genwunner, I like Chandelure more than Magnemite. My problem with Hexcalibur is just that... It looks like a common sword. Like a common item or something other pokemon would use. Seeing this way, there may be a relation between Hexcalibur and some other pokemon, just like Shellder and Slowpoke. I just hope that's it, or else it will be another completely forgettable pokemon.
>>
>>12884717
But that's not "based on inanimate objects". It's organic Pokemon with features. That's like saying Charizard is based on an inanimate object because its tail is on fire.
>>
>>12884827
Wow, can you tell me its Pokedex description?
>>
>>12885590
The fuck does a pokedex entry have to do with a pokemon's design? It tells us more about it's concept, not how it'd designed which is what anon's shitting on there.
>>
>>12885638
And that's the problem. Designs and its concept go hand in hand, especially on newer Pokemon.
>>
Agreed OP.

I mean we had a fucking giant bronze bell pokemon and no one ever even talks about it. (who's pretty cool, if not that memorable)
>>
>>12885682
The two are linked, but a pokemon's design is not the end of the concept - especially not for Ghost types.
>>
>>12885294
I'd like it a helluva lot more if the sheath was just an enormous flat broadsword that was heavily decorated. That just looks ridiculously normal and boring. I mean really, it's only got one feature that makes it look like a pokemon. Maybe if the hand-tassel were actually just a ghostly arm or something it'd be more believable, but it's not.

I find it very hard to believe people think a possessed sword is a lazy concept, especially when we know nothing about it, and especially when it could have an awesome evolution. Also, how it it's design lazy? It has a very noticeable face, it can literally unsheathe itself, it's like a perfect design. But no it has to be covered in jewels. Of course if it was then it'd be overdesigned right? So fucking stupid how people think. It's one thing to have an opinion, it's another to have a completely shitty one.

Those people don't post here. We make fun of them, because they are silly to listen to and mostly retarded. Then you newfag trash come along and can't tell blatantly facetious mockery from serious conversation and we end up tangled in this mess of pretentious irony and poor reading comprehension.
