Hey /vp/ I'm the guy that claimed that Honedge is based on Durendal, the French holy sword. I'm reading an Italian novel written by Italo Calvino, "Il Cavaliere Inesistente", litterally "The Non-Existent Knight". It's a story about Agilulfo, a knight, fighting the battle of the Franks, in the French army under the reign of Charlemagne (along with Roland, the owner of Durendal). This knight hasn't a body, it's just an armor moving with the willpower. In a nutshell, he's a ghost. I bet that Honedge's evolution will be based on Agilulfo, the Non-Existing Knight, an haunted armor (with the sword still being the pokémon, controlling the void armor).

There is a problem: Honedge will probably have levitate, and I don't think that a knight would have levitate, it looks bad... Is there any case of a pokémon with levitate losing that ability by evolving?

While I don't doubt that Honedge does draw from Durandal to an extent (and was one of the things I used to argue against the name Hexcalibur), I doubt it will evolve into a suit of armour.

The core idea behind Honedge is that it's a possessed weapon, not that it's a ghostly warrior. Any evolutions will advance the former concept, and there's isn't a sense of logical progression between the two.

Well, we've got a group of legendaries loosely based on the three musketeers and a whole slew of pokemon based off of obscure(to everyone who's not japanese) myths and legends, along with muscular construction worker clowns.
