First fat main character.
It took them 6 Generations to introduce a fat character that isn't purely comic relief and actually well presented.

Except maybe Wattson, but, he had a relatively short appearnce
>>
Being fat is not something to be proud of. It is something objectively bad. Fat is a choice.

You realize that by saying such things, they're bound to backfire, right?
>>

"Gym Master" spoke (pun intended)
>>
I was really pleased that they gave him a passion for dance and didn't just make his personality "food" like the other "fat friend" character in groups.

I know this thread will turn to shit anyway: but try to remember people that your opinion on fatness has nothing to do with the fact that it's great when characters are given actually personalities and dreams instead of just being characterized by one aspect of their appearance.
>>

Fatpride is the worst thing. Instead of validating it or acting like it is no big deal, people should hit the gym or start dieting. Being fat is the price you have to pay to be lazy.

i actually like tierno more than the other friends
it'll be "representation" when you can choose how thin or fat the player character is.
>>
>>12695997 (OP)
Wattson's not really that fat though. Not like Tierno. Tierno is just monstrous. He's colossal. His team will be Snorlax, Alakazam whose spoons he secretly borrows all the time, Lickilicky, Groudon, another Snorlax, and a Vanilluxe. Good god that kid is fat.
Big fatty flab pile.
Jesus just look at that mongo.
>>
>>12696071
Mfw im lazy and thin due to glorious metabolism.

But on topic, I'm looking forward to seeing how this Tierno turns out, he could turn out to be a total bro.
>>
Technology is amazing!
>>
>>12696012
>>12696026
This. Gamefreak should be ashamed for their effort to make obesity more socially acceptable. It's not like fat kids will say oh yeah a fat character, I'll play this game. When they play they'll think, it's okay/good to be fat. If they would've introduced some more athletic looking protagonists kids would like to be more athletic and not obese.
>>
>>12696083
Why does your post make me laugh so hard.
>Alakazam whose spoons he secretly borrows all the time
>>
>>12696084
Same.
I don't make fun of fat people because I'd look just like them otherwise. And I don't have any motivation to work out.

It was about having a fat character with an actual personality. (as far as we can tell) It's like being glad there's a character with ANY kind of stereotyped appearance breaking the mold somewhat.
>>
>>12696134
It's a bit difficult. I'm hella depressed and I would probably be better off if I ate less fast food, but I can't afford to eat much else at the moment, and that just piles on more depression, and well, I'm sure you can imagine.
>>
>>12696161
just buy less food, but healthy food. Like have two carrots for a meal. Its not too hard. Plain oatmeal is cheap as shit too
>>
Fat acceptance doesn't necessarily mean saying it's okay to stay fat. At least it shouldn't be.
Mental illness for example, is much less stigmatized than it used to be but mentally ill people are still encouraged to seek treatment and they want to improve their mental health (with a few exceptions such as autists).
>>

Since I'm assuming you live in america so I don't know how easy it is to buy food that isn't bad for you I can't give much advice, but hell just learn to cook simple meals and buy the ingredients if it isn't too expensive. Though this has lead to me eating pasta 3 times a week.
>>
>>12696170
Yeah, I should. My roommate kind of enables it by ordering out all the time. But, life stories aside, it's good to remember that people's emotions and situations are complicated and weakness is a thing that happens in everyone. We should encourage strength but it's no ones responsibility to look the way you want them to look or live the way you think they should.

All I know is my mother jsut cant lose the weight she has no matter how hard she tries. Not everyone can be a bronze god and you people who think that people should be shamed for thier weight are the lowest kind of people.
If youre going to hate people for being big then you better show that stomach to show youre not being a hypocrite.
>>
So we have Tierno but how many gens will it take to have an important fat female char that isn't black?
>>
>>12696239
It's almost like saying "why don't alcoholics just stop drinking". Just because you were able to do it doesn't mean everyone else can. Some people don't know good foods or don't like good foods, some people are unable to get good exercise because of casualties, some might not care enough to be healthy, etc.
>>
Now my fat cousins who play are going to think this is socially acceptable. I hope the show Tierno's struggles out in the wild (always sweating profusely, takes him longer to finish his journey, generally unable to keep up with the others) but I doubt that'll happen. He'll most likely just be a fun loving trainer.

I would like to eat healthier, but I don't have acess to good food all the time.
I do enjoy a nice banana or a bowl of cereal every once and then.
>>
>>12696315
I don't hate people for being big, you're projecting. I was debating the finer points of your mother's diet and exercise routine.

And I'm an ex-fatty down 75 pounds, so I know a thing or two about losing weight. I thought the same thing, I couldn't do anything no matter how hard I tried! And then I learned that almost everything I thought I knew about diet and exercise was totally wrong.

Some people are so jarred by learning what they thought they knew was false that they refuse to accept it. They just can't handle being wrong.
>>
>>12696359
Why wouldn't he be? You think they just made a character to show that fat is bad? Some people can be self conscious about that, and I don't think Game Freak would ever aim for something like that.
>>
>>12696375
you need to just eat a banana and a bowl of cereal. Or like a bowl of cereal three bananas and like a bunch of vegetables and have that be your day.
>>
>>12696224
this just in guys
fat people literally defy the laws of physics

if you spend more energy than you put in (via food) your body will make more by burning down cells in your body, usually fat cells but muscle cells too

simply put
stop being a lazy fuck you fat piece of shit
>>
Some people have medical conditions that cause them to be fat no matter how hard they try

That said, putting money on this guy having no idea that his issue is too much food (If he's a trainer then he's getting enough exercise... Unless he's riding on a Gogoay. Poor thing D:)
>>
>>12696375
>>12696375
It's still a choice and it's still doable.
An alcoholic that stays an alcoholic when he/she doesn't want to be one is weak. A fat person who cannot change their eating/exercise habits when he/she wants to is also weak.

Yes I do expect someone to eat like a wild animal then pump iron like one. I work out everyday for hours and eat a little as possible. I monitor everything I eat because if I don't I would balloon. I used to be very heavy.
>>
>>12696419
but being fat is not something to be proud of and it is objectively bad because it is unhealthy and unattractive. It is also a choice, but I do see how for some it is harder for others to escape it.

It is a choice because someone can choose to diet and exercise or they can choose to over eat and not exercise.
>>
>>12696419
Well, those posts weren't me, for one thing. But I don't really see the "hate" there. I see people thinking being fat is bad, but thinking something is objectively bad isn't hate. Hate is a much stronger word that people give it credit for.
>>
>>12696432
I'm not saying to be proud of it.
I'm saying not to shame those who are fat.
The character is like 5 or some shit for fucks sake how can you expect a 13 year old to be a buff thin powerhouse.

Plus girls with a little belly are hot just saying.
>>
The obesity rate in Japan is like 3~4% and most of them are just big male adults, like Professor Birch and the Hikers. The extremely obese population is a fraction of a percent.

Even just a generation ago the U.S. had obesity under 10%. It's always funny hearing about fatties that buy an old house for its design and historical value, then complain that they have a hard time getting around. We're still in the first decade of a world that has more obese kids than malnourished or starving ones.
>>
>>12696504
Its not a choice because not everyone has the money, time, acess to good food, genes, family history, acess to gym memberships, acess to exersice machines, acess to a way to know good food from bad food.

Watch it before you say my assertions are baseless.

>>
>>12696517
>girls with a little belly are hot

See, that's your opinion. Saying "being very fat is unattractive" is also an opinion. Saying "being very fat is unhealthy" is not an opinion. It's a fact.

We can argue opinions all day, but facts are facts.

Maybe they're not trying to make being fat seem ok, but acknowledging there are people out there with different body types and not everyone is some perfect skinny athelete. Sounding the way you do just makes you seem incredibly shallow, judgemental and insecure.
>>
>>12696533
All you need is two of those things to not be fat. It is not hard to acquire two of those at all.
Your assertions were baseless before because you did not back them up once.
>>
>>12696387
To serve as a subtle lesson. Kids see the fat guy struggling in the game, they'll see him as 'uncool' and they'll want to be unlike him themselves. He can have plenty of personality, but his largeness should affect his speed efficiency in traveling through the wilderness. Being fat isn't just some minority aesthetic thing that can't be changed, it should definitely be looked down upon in most cases.

Apparently you've never tried to lose weight. No everyone is made the same. I've seen skinny people who eat like pigs stay skinny and I've seen big people who work out and diet barely lose weight. It's not that simple. If anyone's assertions are baseless, it's yours.

As the game progresses Tierno learns the value of hardwork and trains himself as he trains his pokemon, with each appearance becomes thinner culminating in him being buff and fit as fuck in the last battle with him.

You don't understand how normal kids think, do you?

This is more of a diversity in characters type of deal, not to inspire someone. It would be pretty boring if everyone in the game looks like kawaii uguu bishie shit all the time. In fact, having more obese or not-so-good looking characters make the decent or good ones look better by comparison as beauty is rarity anyway.

Do you even character design?

Nice try bitch nigga.
No such thing as fat rights, but theres such thing as not being an asshole.
If someones fat then let them be, dont whine about it.
Some people just don't have the will to beat the fat and they accepted it.
Don't have a "healthier then thou" attitude it just makes you look like an incensitive prick.

Apart from a few teenage girls who have brains like rocks, most people's general opinion on models is that they're too thin. Actual models always look weird, they don't dress like humans, they're just there to show the 'art of clothes'
But don't pretend that just because women desperate to be size zero is wrong it validates being overweight. Both are unhealthy and bad for you.

What about people who are fat and don't plan to change it but also accept it as a flaw? I'm a little overweight, and I don't have the will or desire to change that, but 'fat pride' just makes me cringe.

It's a little ironic that people are whining about Gamefreak making people fat. When I was getting down to my healthy weight, my Pokewalker helped me drop 20+ pounds. Yes, it's small, and people will undoubtedly say things like "Lol, fatass it's pathetic that you need pixels to get on a treadmill," but really, it made exercise more fun and kept me motivated. So if they want to add a fat character, I think that's less of a deal for children's fitness than the Pokewalker is.

Fat people ARE comic relief.

They are not visually appealing so they have to be funny in order to compensate.

Way to propagate unhealthy lifestyles, gamefreak.

Needs more aesthetic trainers.

I was like that until I decided to change. I hated the fact that I was overweight and finally got the gumption to make a difference. I hated fat pride, it makes us look terrible as a nation. I like fat people as long as they aren't saying its a good thing.
>>
Some people don't want to spend their free time constantly trying to live up to everyone else's' expectations, some people want to stay as healthy and fit as possible. Some people don't care about appearance, some people do. Some people don't even have the time in the first place to work out or whatever. Really, who gives a shit? If you're that bothered by this, then i don't know what to say really.
>>
>>12696697
>Don't have a "healthier then thou" attitude
Except that's exactly the case. Between two people, one fat and one fit, the fit one is generally the healthier one (unless there are outside factors like smoking). Now, there's no need to be an asshole and brag about your slimness, I suppose, but there is a definite concrete benefit to not being fat. And that benefit is being able to live longer, have a better quality of life, do more physical activity, and not let such things hold you back.

so you're saying fat people should be walking around with a constant state of mind that they should hate themselves and are trash, okay.
>>
>>12696806
no that they should hate being fat. Being fat does not define a person. They should not like that aspect of themselves though.
>>
>>12696760
>What about people who are fat and don't plan to change it but also accept it as a flaw?
I don't think anyone would begrudge you that. As with feminists, atheists, furries, anything, it's always the loudest and stupidest people that get the most attention and draw flak for the rest of them. (I'm not trying to equate all those things to each other, they're just examples)
Most of the time nobody gives a fuck, as I'm sure you could tell us. As long as you're not one of those morbidly overweight girls who go out in leggings and make us look at your horrific wobbling arse, or going up to slim people and talking about privilege.
>>12696764
>"Lol, fatass it's pathetic that you need pixels to get on a treadmill,"
I think anything that encourages people to exercise and get fit is good, no matter what it is. That's why I don't make fun of my mother for doing that stupid zumba crap.
>>
>>12696799
>Really, who gives a shit? If you're that bothered by this, then i don't know what to say really.
pretty much, i've lost a lot of weight and i still have a ways to go, but i don't look at people who are heavier than me and think that they're subhuman because they're fat. i don't even know these people.

Smoking is even more unhealthy yet people do it all the time. Being healthy is just a thing. Its not something you should hate someone for.
>>

>>
>>12696838

that's still pretty an unhealthy way of thinking. a lot of fat people just don't care, in terms of acceptance they're less "FAT PRIDE CHECK YOUR THIN PRIVILEGE" and more "just mind your own business".
>>
>>12696864
>But what do any of those thingsh ave to do with being less attractive and worse people that should
Um... yes? I honestly don't understand that last part... or any of it...
>>

'Fat pride' is actually a thing?

Eh, I'm overweight myself, and the issue at hand is that I lack the general motivation to kick myself into gear. I know what I need to do (Do some damn walking, which I manage to do sometimes), but I lack the motivation. Though now that I have Animal Crossing New Leaf, I have some better motivation in the form of obtaining Play Coins.

That said, it doesn't matter the slightest if a character in a fictional setting is overweight or not. Character design comes in many forms and shapes, and an overweight character is just as viable as any others. Fat characters in fiction aren't always 'fat' because of eating and/or not exercising. There are various characters who are large in stature due to various other traits.
>>
>>12696768
What the fuck is the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy person in Pokemon? A fat or chubby guy every so often isn't a bad thing, you're acting like there's way too many of them and that they're like the anti Christ what with the "if they aren't funny they instantly have nothing good about them and are vastly inferior to someone who isn't fat"

I think it's dancing in general.

Not going to lie, I was surprised they made the fat kid's passion dancing at first, but then after a few seconds, I thought "hey, that's cool and interesting".

>>12696915
>That said, it doesn't matter the slightest if a character in a fictional setting is overweight or not
especially when most of the other characters are going to be thin. one character being fat and having a personality that doesn't revolve around that trait isn't going to inspire kids to go out and shove mcdonald's down their throats.

>what is a dead thyroid?
>what is an over active thyroid?
>what are bad genes?
>what are shit living conditions?
>what is depression?

So many factors go into weight. Every human body is different. I have a dead thyroid, I eat right and work out, yet I am still just a tad over weight, and yet still my doctor says I am still quite healthy for my size.
Also, not every diet works the same for everyone. Atkins may be perfect for some, but terrible for others' whose genes make them hold onto the fat or not as easily form muscle. Weight Watchers can work perfectly for one person, yet once again be counteractive to an other.

He's a fat guy who is an aspiring dancer and wants to turn his Pokémon into a damce team. And you say he isn't comic relief... If he was skinny it wouldn't be but the fact that they made him fat to me feels like their purposfully making fun of him, "Haha, a fat guy who wants to be a graceful dancer, look at fatty twirl!!!" If they wanted to make a serious fat rival then look to the anime, both Morrison & Stephan were fat and good characters that were tough and good battlers.
