Hey y'all /vp/oreon friends, just now I got to know about the new Soulcaliburmon, and immediately got into /vp/ because I knew every thread would be about it, and let me say that in every new gen, when new Pokemons are being revealed little by little, I usually don't go all "10/10, will train!" in every one I like (and I still don't know which starter will I choose until I know how their final evolved forms are), I usually don't decide what Pokemons I like the most untill I see all of them, but for this one here, is an obligatory "99/10, will train" for me.

The reasons are: It's a ghost type, my favorite type, plus I'm a ghost trainer and tried every ghost Pokemon in competitive play.

It's a freaking sword, which I find amazing... it does not only appeal to my inner 15 year old, but I really like fantasy swords and weapons.

it's typing combination makes it awesome, and here like everybody else is hopping it does have levitate (chances though, are that it's gonna have at least hyper cutter and possibly other new ability).

Now for the first time I'm hyped for a new Pokemon of the new gen.

There are three "alphabets" in japanese, if you will. Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. SOMETIMES there is a fourth, known as Romaji, which is the latin alphabet.

What we're focused on is Katakana, which Gardevoir's name comes from. Katakana is the one that the japanese use to spell foreign words without using Romaji. Now let's break this shit down, shall we?

First of all, vowels. There are five. A, I, U, E, and O. The pronunciation of them NEVER EVER CHANGES, unlike in english.

The first character is Sa, and the second character used makes you prolong the pronunciation of the a in Sa. So it's pronounced Saa. The equivilent for the english 'Sir'.

First, that's katakana, not kanji. Katakana is frequently used for foreign words transcribed into Japanese. Because Japanese doesn't have the spelling for some sounds, you can translate it several ways.
サ = sa
ー = long vowel, in this context it's a
ナ = na
イ = i
ト = to
So yes, the most literal English transcription would be "Saanaito." But, here's the thing. Because you can't write "sir" or "knight" in Japanese while maintaining the same spelling, you have to take alternatives. Sir, for example, can be spelled saa or siru. You'll find the same thing with similar sounds. Naito is, of course, knight or night. Given Pokemon frequently borrows English or other languages for even the JP names (just look at gen 1 names for an example, particularly the Eeveelutions), it's PROBABLY meant to be Sirknight.
