In the Japanese version, Gender wasn't in the actual gameplay anyway. It's like Rescue Team where it just worked regardless of gender for Moves like Attract. The option was solely for dialogue purposes.

The only thing this removal really does is one show that Nintendo are being lazy with localization like FE:A, where each voice option had their own script in the Japanese version but the English one had no changes in script and two less options, and two forcing the homolust in the script.

I never said anything about that, just that the Avatar had a different script for each voice option, including a no voice option that made them literally mute. Two of those voice options were cut and the scripts of the three remaining ones were all the same.

Radiant Dawn did similar by removing the extended script in the localization that you got by playing Hard Mode in the Japanese release.

Providing they keep the gender of you and the partner ambiguous, I'll have no complaints, and if they're defaulted to male...well, I was going to have them both male anyway. But it just seems like it'd take very little effort to leave genders in, or a least make them ambiguous

For many of us it was the final straw. I can deal with it being watered down for casuals. I can deal with the limited starter selection. Dealing with all that, plus only our version of the game has this part removed that helps me immerse into the game. No, you've gone too far.
