You do realize that just because something is awesome for five minutes doesn't mean they can take that awesome and make an entire series out of it. Otherwise, movie producers would go full on television like they tried in the 90s. You run out of resources. Your best bet is to make it as to the point as possible.

A 2-cour show for every game would be kinda cool. Sure they wouldn't be able to show every single Pokemon from that gen, but 24-26 episodes would be enough to get 8 badges, collect some pokemon, have some more evolve, battle the E4 and handle a bit of the post game.

The budget they have for Pokemon is for an entire year, but they would have all the money to work half of the episodes, so maintain quality.

The only reason I can't bring myself to care about a good Pokemon anime is because I know they would more than likely always use the male protagonists while the females are either ignored completely or made minor side-characters that only use cute Pokemon.

I completely agree with OP, and please they would make way more money of of this kind of anime than from the current one. Kids quickly outgrow the current anime as it is anyway, and start looking at anime you catch on Adult Swim or something.

I think people tend to underestimate the current anime in Japan. (Then again, they sort of underestimate here) It remains one of the top anime shows there. Not necessarily #1, but in the top 10 somewhere. I think they are plenty happy with just their one show, not to mention I've never heard of them making a "mature" version of a popular series just to appeal to a wider audience. For them, they don't need to appeal to a wider audience since people of all ages watch anime anyway. (I know that doesn't prevent it from being a show marketed to kids) It would be a massive redundancy, and it would cost them more money. I'm not too sure how often they anticipate appealing to Western audiences, but the evidence is clear in that they've invented their own random symbol language that is peppered all over the anime so that the localizers don't have to paint edit those out. The dub has for a long time been one of the top shows of the block it's in on CN, if not THE highest rated show on there. True, it doesn't get ratings nearly as high as anything on Nickelodeon, but that's besides the point. It is still a popular show here as well, and it just wasn't made for people like us. It'd be cool if there was an anime like this, but I think they made the better decision for it to be a kids' show since they'll get higher ratings that way. It could've stood to be a little more mature, though, since it makes little difference in Japan.

There are very few works that make a significant profit margin in anime on a regular basis.

Kids/family shows such as Doraemon, Pokemon and many other long running shows that little kids watch. This also includes Ghibli movies, I suppose. Basically, the equivalent in the west would be Spongebob or Disney movies.

Long running franchises like Macross, Gundam also make a lot.

The average 'fanservice' or 'yaoi' (how that is even relevant, I don't know) show barely gets by in sales, and are NOT profitable. They're -generally- (though not always) made by smaller studios, last 1 or 2 cours (13 - 26) episodes and make very little profit compared to franchises like Gundam or works that have a huge audience like Doraemon or Ghibli movies.

Just like every other industry in the world, what sells has nothing to do with content, and has everything to do with how big the audience is and how famous the brand is.
