In basic terms: red/orange/yellow are warm colors and green/blue/purple are cool colors. Since her hair is a cool color, adding a cooler tone to her skin will make the colors "blend" a bit better.

Far cry from perfect, but here's a quick MSPaint sample of what I mean. The saturation and lightness are the same between the two, all that changed was that I shifted the original skintone's hue a little further away from the red-orange end of the spectrum.

Your colouring is good, it's just knowing what colours to use with what. But don't be afraid to use contrasting hues at all! For example I was colouring a Cynadquil and using reds and oranges as the highlight colour worked extremely well!!
Play around and see what looks best! I found painting a simple pic of my trainer, colouring each different colour on a separate layer and adjusting the hue for each one, trying different palettes!

this honestly worries me, I work at a small studio job as a character design artist and writer, and for five almost six years now, I've wanted to bring a story to life that I came up with.

But the thing is this, Even as a writer you're /still/ locked to what your boss and superiors say. So even if you have the best damn ideas ever mae, your boss can easily say "No, we're doing this instead" and just like that, everything you worked towards is crushed.

It sucks, really. happened for a few things I've worked on, which is why I really don't want to suggest my own stuff.

Your character looks so generic. it makes my eyes bleed.

Lets start off with some constructive:

Blonde hair, like that isn't overdone, now thats not /that/ bad no, but with a white and periwinkle getup? Really? That color scheme is so overplayed, learn some fashion and color co-ordination.

The hair style is simple, its good and effective, but once again, either change the scheme, OR the color, the red/burgandy you had earlier was a much better fit.

And what are those things hanging off her shorts? is there a theme going on here? because I don't see it. from the scheme i'd guess she was either a wingull or a pelliper mock up. If this is the case, props. If not? then GET. RID OF IT. cutesy little tabs are final fantasy nonsense. Nonsensical impractical fish flippers aren't going to do shit for her. either take em out or give them use.

Honestly, the Overall and short combo makes me cringe too, the straps are FAR too long for that body, they need to be cut down or hold tighter, unless its a style, pants don't just hang on your hips.


Overall, I'd honestly rate this a 4/10. it's not bad, its got some charm,. but I believe it could be so much more if you work with it, maybe incorporate her personality into it maybe? You want to give a character something that reflects them.

Anyways, thats just my two cents, mull it over if you wish.

Okay, so here's my take on it...

I like the conceptual design even if the character feels too bubbly. The hands and feet need some more work and I notice the transition of the 6 (maybe 7) to 3 + skin color scheme. Which is good because it allows better balance.

The main issue I take to the character is the fact that considering the pokemon she has caught/main most of them come from environments where her wearing shorts and the lack of long leggings would be impractical and uncomfortable.

Even just giving her some knee-highs or maybe longer shorts would work a bit better.

Overall its 6.8/10 "good design, impractical attire considering her history"

Heres an idea I had a few years ago, I'm not one for Hoenn, but I wanted a trainer for each reigon and the stories I wrote about:

Ariel H. Zolica

Hair color - dark brown, short and tied back.
Eye color - Orange
Gender - female
Age - 16
Born: Lavaridge town.

Dress - Burgandy red apron over a cream colored blouse. Wears a pair of pokeball shaped goggles, and a belt of tools around her waist, brown leather knee high boots.

Origin: Ariel Worked in her grandfathers shop, a toy shop for the children of the Hoenn reigon in Lavaridge town. Following in her grandfathers footsteps, she herself worked and welded with metals and gears to continue this legacy, but saw much more potential in such toys. Her grandfather passed away from a terrible event in mt. chimney and she was left to work on her own.

Her grandfathers goal was to create a new breed of life, a toy that could work and interact like any person or pokemon. For the next few years, Ariel went about living this dream, and created a clockwork kirlia with the help of her partner, sabeleye. she finally managed to bring the machine to life as a real pokemon, but still in its metalic form.

She then went out on experimenting battles and contests, but her kirlia could learn no moves, nor would it ever evolve. realizing this, she developed a machine that could not only read Technical machines, but download them into the clockworks brain.

With this technology at her disposal, she set out to travel the world and see how her creations would act in real life. But little did she know, several others valued the work she had done... and wanted it for their own nefarious schemes.

Numel: Another friend of hers, and proves very valuable to her. Due to its intense compacted heat, it makes a really good traveling furnace, as well as a battle partner.

Staryu: Befriended Ariel a while back near dewford. Staryu has proved very valuable in her creations, being able to cool down the hottest metals with its water attacks as well as light up dark caves.

Ditto: A ditto Ariel found on her journey, it has a tendency to imitate her and everyone around it. This is also helpful in several ways for modeling.

Mawile: A persnickety mawile that doesnt like getting along with others. She personally always fights with Sableye, but loves to help out with the machines.

Thunder punch - Electric
Crunch - Dark
Ice beam - Ice
Brick break - Fight

Latias: An injured baby latias that She nursed to health. its traveled with her ever since untill she can find its parents. It provides ample transportation across the Hoenn reigon.

Energy ball - Grass
Safeguard - normal

I can't be bothered to do a full body right now, since I'm scannerless. But these two are the main characters for my Nuzlocke comics... which will be coming along whenever I do get a scanner and a nice program to clean it up.
They're sameface because I'm half asleep and a lazy bastard.

The protagonist is on the left and the travelling companion/rival is on the right. There's a third character that fills the role of the primary rival, but I haven't decided on a design.

As for Pokemon, I'll just give you the finishing teams for my Emerald and SoulSilver runs. One Pokemon in each party dies in the final battles against Steven and Red:

I'm working through BlazeBlack, but I've slowed progress with trying to get better at drawing.

Storywise, everything is set ~150 years before modern events, so there's stuff like Burned Tower catching fire in the SS story. But BlazeBlack poses a problem since Ghetsis has a Genesect on his team and I'm not sure how to handle that in the comic, if I even make it that far.

Personality: Kilik has a bit of a hero complex; when there is danger afoot, he is off to the rescue. Kind of late to the party, but I guess since other people posted some info on their characters I'll do the same.

Her name's Loren Macek, she's a 21-year-old reporter originally from Dewford Town in Hoenn. When she was younger she had very little interest in training, and instead spent most of her time gossiping at Dewford Hall or pouring over the latest art and fashion from places like Nacrene City. As she got older a few of her friends left on their big pokemon adventures, so she decided she wanted a story of her own. After saving up enough money to buy a clunky camera she left home and tried to make her way in the world. After traveling around for a while and hopping from job to job she finally made her way over to the Sevii Islands, where she began working as a writer for a gossip magazine called Pokémon Journal.

Her one pokemon is a sableye named Hopkins, which she sort of befriended more than captured when she was much younger.

I hope you don't mind, but I made this as a suggestion for teams if you ever want to change them. I like to make teams with the pokemon matching colours and shit so they look cool next to eachother. Maybe you could have the older brother trade him a Throh or Stoutland for the Mightyena and have the other be a gift to help him out. Also, Mincinno would be like a non-fighting pikachu companion or a reserve maybe.
