I think I've learned not to get too attatched to them while playing competitive. It's one thing ingame or casually where you can do whatever you want, but in competitive you have to try and use things you're not used to to get better results. I know it isn't well liked on /vp/ to be a tourneyfag now, but without competitive I would have never discovered some of my new favorites like Hitmontop or Infernape, whom I had previously overlooked because I didn't think they were cool enough. Call me a faggot if you must, but I've been part of a few fun RP threads. Then that RP went to IRC, and it was good for a month or two, then yaoi bullshit made it jump the Sharpedo... There were also a few good Pokégirl threads.

Well, not necessarily. At least nothing I could see /vp/ as affecting. Granted, it's a whole-board spiritual successor to the threads on /v/ that made me rethink my fucking nostalgiafaggotry in the first place, but that was already in progress. On the other hand I WAS more open to having more non-Legendaries on my team in White than I had been in previous games, but maybe that's more the number of halfway decent mundane Pokémon in Unova compared to, say, Sinnoh.

Believe it or not, I think /vp/ is perfect just the way it is. All the furry porn and rp threads and occasional tripfag wars is what makes this place so entertaining...but that's just like my opinion and stuff.

I'm not really a battler so I haven't been on much recently, but I remember it first starting up and the earlier threads, like the huge threads full of beautiful images, threads pretending that Pokemon were real and consulting others about how to deal with local problems, the birth of the Poke Parents, etc.
