Personally, then it comes to games like PSO, I've always found it far easier to use controllers than a keyboard and mouse. Granted, controllers don't have a thousand hotkeys, but I always find movement far easier with a stick.

Force HIGHLY benefits from TPS as well. Having 100% control of the explosion of your Foie and placing cards with pin-point accuracy is a pretty big deal.

Even Hunter with keyboard and mouse allows for some advanced camera techniques not possible on gamepad.

Most of the "weakspots" I recall encountering involved actually maneuvering your character to an enemy's exposed back as opposed to requiring precision aiming. I suppose there are boss weakpoints, but you could lock on to those anyway too.

Enemies also had this tendency to cluster anyway, so if you tagged one with an AoE you'd usually get everything around it.

They can always just turn down the graphics settings for whatever (e.g. the Vita version).

The main issue is whether or not a hard drive or some other form of high capacity storage is present. The other two have that, the question is whether the Wii U will or not.

Learning katakana alone will greatly help with the item names should PSO2 never come to the west. Before anyone says "fuck that shit I don't want to learn 50 million characters," it's honestly not that daunting. It's only 71 characters, and 25 of them are the exact same as other characters but with softening/hardening marks (ex: カ = ka; ガ = ga). So really, you only have to learn 46 characters along with that simple rule. Furthermore, on that note, you don't need to learn a million different rules like you do with the alphabet. Each syllable will basically always be pronounced exactly as you see it.

The syllabary is organized in groups of (at most) five. For example: a i u e o, ka ki ku ke ko, sa shi su se so, etc. If you just learn one group a day, you'll actually be able to read most of the item names by the time PSO2 comes out. You don't even have to bother learning to write that shit.

I just took a look at the native item names from Phantasy Star Portable 2, and literally all of the common consumables are in katakana. Practically all of the weapons, armors, techniques and monster names seem to have been in katakana, as well. You can get by without it, sure, but damn it'll help. Also, you can use this as an excuse to learn it, as I did with Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

There really isn't, and I'll be absolutely amazed if they keep in Japan only, especially considering that there is a relatively large following for the series in the west. You mean aside from the fact that cash shop games do very poorly in the west in general? Or the fact that Phantasy Star Universe failed in the US (granted, a lot of this was Sega of America's fault, but still...) even though it's still going strong in Japan? Or how about the fact that the western Phantasy Star fanbase is smaller than the amount of Phantasy Star fans in any given subway car in Tokyo?
Even though I wouldn't touch a US version with a ten foot pole, I'd love for it to get localized because hopefully the servers will be global, and that means more players, but let's not kid ourselves and say there's no warning signs. Be as hopeful as you want for a US release. I'm right behind you there, but don't say there's no reason Sega wouldn't do it because there are tons.

You've never played DC Universe Online, have you? Unless you have an active league (DCUO's version of a guild/clan), you're pretty much forced to dive headfirst into a sea of human shit. BRs, people who don't play their roles (imagine a cast hunter who only spams resta and you have an idea of the DCUO crowd), people who rush into massive groups of enemies while being completely undergeared and then blaming the healer when he dies in two seconds.... If the game comes to the US, you'll be dealing with all of that.
As for me, I'll stick with the JP client. Given my experiences in Japanese free to play games compared to DCUO, it would seem that the language barrier is an impenetrable, anti-retard field as well. Sure, you get your Japanese idiots, but they account for a small part of the game's population whereas DCUO is populated nearly entirely by mouth breathers.

As a matter of fact, I have played PSO...and PSP2 and Infinity online.
Simple fact is that you have to know people before you can make a room and password lock it. Otherwise, you're just going to be sitting in a password locked room until you get bored and log off. To prevent that, you can either play with your real life friends or people you've met online that aren't retards, and to meet the people who you don't know in real life and aren't retards, you have to suck it up and join random groups.
Also, if you're still talking about levels in DCUO, you obviously barely played it and most certainly never saw the worst the game community has to offer.

That explains it. The worst of humanity seems to have gathered at DCUO's T1 content (the stuff you do right after hitting level 30). Now, I'm not one of those "GET ON MY LEVEL" power gamer elitists, but some of the things I experienced in my T1 days were simply horrifying. It's not one of those esoteric intricacies of a game that you wouldn't know unless you read a wiki or something. I'm talking about complete ignorance of the basic mechanics of the game, and people like that make up the vast majority of DCUO. You were wise to get out when you did.
Oh, well. I've learned my lesson never to set foot in western MMOs, and on a positive note, I won't have to deal with that kind of bullshit again once PSO2 comes out.

Regardless, a fuck up's still a fuck up. They didn't learn shit after it all happened on Blue Burst before.

Hunter is by far the most fun class to play. However, this does not mean that Force and Ranger aren't fun to play.

As RA and FO, you're basically playing a TPS by blowing shit up from a distance all day. Hunter, on the other hand, lets you experience the combat hands-on, ass, face, and mouth.

You should definitely play Hunter then. It requires mental, physical, and map awareness as well as high execution(compared to RA and FO). You also get to make your own combos.

It's interesting you should say that because in PSO1 Force by far required the most resource management and spatial awareness, whereas hunter was just run-up, combo, dodge, repeat.

Force never became "tech spam" until like level 130 and even then you had to be playing Newman.

But I will agree that Ranger has always been easy mode.

How close is combat to Blue Burst?

I fucking loved Blue Burst, between BB and GC v3 i easily dumped out 2k hours.

Biggest complaint? leveling at 120+ was a BITCH.

are they going to be balancing out the classes a bit? i played all 3 back in PSO, went something like this....

    >Hunter: strong all game
    >Ranger: strong after getting geared
    >Force: Horrid early game, useless until you get high level techs, once you get lvl 30 techs OP as balls

I found Hunter to be the funnest, got to level 100 on a HUcast in ~3 days. Shit was so easy, then i found a Chainsawd and hacked my way up the food chain.

I had 2 RAmar's, one on GC v3 and one on BB. GC one was meh, BB was godly. I had all the best weapons on BB, and did a shit load more damage due to shit like V101 (expensive? yes. worth it? very), stacking attack speed made you fucking spit out bullets nonstop and with the right guns made you into a fuckin monster.

I had 2 FO's as well, playing on GC was pretty much retard mode, too few buttons. Playing on BB was idort mode, you just rolled your fingers on 1-9 and called it good, then you buff your team and move on. Effective, but not terribly fun. Unless you were doing PvP, "LOL FROZEN LOL FROZEN LOL FROZEN LOL DED"

my biggest complaint about BB is that a shit load of content had to be taken from the JP client and translated. whats even worse is that they never finished the JP client, they just stopped. really really gay.

I've been playing on Ultima, and have no complaints about it. It's less grindy than Schthack because levels 1-160 are x3 EXP and 160-200 are x2 EXP.

It's not so fast that it completely ruins the appeal/fun of leveling a character (especially at later levels), while being just fast enough to not be the vidya equivalent of grinding your dick against coarse sandpaper.

Yeah Schthack is vanilla and crono/lee lazy shits

I'd rather not spend a month trying to be awesome. Its like when you get an RO urge, you don't jump on a 5/5/3 server. You jump on a 50/50/25 server

SCHT is fine, however the marketplace was when i played absolutely 100% fucked. You cant stop dupers, no matter what server you were on, but SCHT had it worst as the population was the largest. i had a shit load of items that i got from a guy on my friend list, he got perma'd for duping, all in all he gave me a shit load of MAG stuff, a few PS's, and probably somewhere around 300 PD's. When i quit i was filthy stinking rich, and feeling bad that most of it was duped i gave it away to people on the forum i used to regularly visit.

theres no "right" server to play on, just pick what one you think is best for you. Once you get through your first run, the game becomes pretty grindy. As soon as you get to Ultimate difficulty, things get hairy. expect to see a LOT of Forest. The difficulty jump between Forest and Cave is retarded, and the jump from Caves to Mines is even more retarded.

If you have the right gear you should be fine, but you will want a party on ult, going solo is a bitch and a half when you first get to ultimate.

There's nothing special about grinding to level 200, likewise, there's nothing special about getting there through multipliers either. What makes getting to level 200 special is getting there naturally, just by playing the game for fun. It shows you've been around a long time, not that you know how to spam EXP the best ways.

I've got a level 173 HUney back on PSOGC, I never tried spamming my way to level 200 despite my fairly high level. It took me a long-ass time to get there. A friend of mine got to 183 after just a week or two of spamming a King's Needle in PSOGC. The sheer fact that you can do that to hit level 200 that way, or that people grind endlessly to get there, just cheapens the whole thing. That's the reason I never pushed to get there.

You missed the point entirely if that's your argument. There would be bugs in the game, right? Well, the one way they would be fixed is if SoJ fixed it first and then sent to the PC/PS2 versions later on. This is what I was referring to. I'm guessing you only played the 360 version, which I believe is international.

    >DRM
Question, if thats your argument. Is there a CD Key generator for World of Warcraft? If thats not possible, then if PSO2 had such a system, would that deter people from pirating the disc for the game, since it would have to be joined to their account?

I made the mistake of using only Power mats, so my HUney was maxed out on attack power right off the bat. I ended up playing her like a HUcast; High attack power mechguns with Berserk or Charge, DoB, Black King Bar with high percents, I think a high hit Holy Ray, things like that. The Shifta and Deband helped quite a bit, too.

As I recall, by the time I stopped playing PSOGC due to a broken gamecube, I had... 75 hit Vises, 60 hit Charge Vulcans, 80 hit Diska of Braveman, 80 hit Vjaya, 2 Black King Bars, one 45 hit, the other 30 hit, both covering 2 percents (One Abeast and Dark, one Native and Machine)... And a fuckload of sranks. I know I had a Demon's Needle, a Berserk Needle, Demon's Vulcans, a Zalure J-Cutter, things like that. I got really heavy into C-Mode before by GC started freezing a bit too much for me to want to risk playing.

Hit the very bottom save option, the one next to the cancel button that goes back (not the one in the menu above random). There seems to be a problem with english characters so name your character a number, then back out and go to the benchmark without closing the program, it should load with the character you just saved.
    >> Anonymous 04/07/12(Sat)03:40 No.3198058
    >>3197891
The problem is not in the English characters. It happens if you hit Next after having already saved a template of your character, and you try to save the character with the same name as the template.

You can get around this by making a backup temp save with a diff name, delete the data of the save using the name you want in Documents > SEGA > PHANTASYSTARONLINE2, and then load the backup template, and save it normally.

There really isn't any benefit to doing so, but if you're autistic like me, that's the way around it.

Nonsense, just haven't found the right bros is all, take your time and get accustomed. I'm sure you'll find the right group and even should you choose not to join a guild it's always good to mingle with the locals. I wasn't planning on joining a guild either but I ran into this one person and we hit it off pretty fast. She introduced me to some of her friends and we hit it off pretty well. Before I knew it I had joined their guild and we were ravaging battlefields together. It's all about putting yourself out there. Like I said in my earlier post, I've already played the original game to level 200, so PSO isn't by any means new to me. My typical play-style for PSO has always been something along the lines of:

    >Log on
    >Make Solo Play server
    >Play a few missions until bored
    >Log out until I get another PSO itch

While I will agree playing with bros is a lot more fun (playing through Ultimate with some guildies of mine from WoW was probably some of the most fun I've had in PSO in a long time), I'm just the kind of person who prefers solo play in dungeon crawlers.

Sega of America can't do anything about a bug. They have no development staff. Bugfixes for all versions of the game are the sole responsibility of Sonic Team. If an exploit something in Japan first but is left open in the west, the blame lies solely with Sonic Team for not sending over the fix to be applied here.

And anything that makes it easier for people to subscribe can't be construed as a bad thing for you or I. A CD key is admittedly a relatively mild form of DRM these days, but it's DRM all the same.

Unless wand allows you to charge up spells incredibly quickly, I don't see it being much use compared to the way rods work, especially with the new niche the talis made for itself. The idea of tossing a card into a group of enemies so I can use techs from half a mile away or using cards to do ultra long range restas on the front liners is going to be hard for the wand to compete with unless it has its own new special functions.

I would imagine that there are different techs for cards than wands/rods. You can't just "Throw" a lightning card and get the same effect as a bolt of lightning or a continuous stream of it. Sure, SOME effects can work like that, but wands will probably be the same as they were in PSU, where you had a free hand for shit in addition to your regular one-handed weapon.

    >>3246465
Rods have been the strongest magic weapons by light years in all the Phantasy Star games I've played, not wands. Wands were supposed to be a happy middle ground between the rod and madougu (I think they call them tech mags in the localizations, but I always play the JP versions, so I'm not sure), but Infinity pretty much threw that out the window by making rods fire spells as fast as wands did in vanilla PSP2. Maybe it's a localization thing where the US version calls rods wands or something.

    >You can't just "Throw" a lightning card and get the same effect as a bolt of lightning
Except that's exactly what they showed in the video where the talis was unveiled. It seems you think that specific talis will have specific attacks linked to them the way that, say, a drain weapon in PSO always drained HP with its special attack.
"A force-only weapon that differs physically from the rod. It can be thrown for use a ranged weapon as well as be used to cast techs where it lands. You can throw it in the air above enemies to use an area of effect attack tech or assist far off allies with resta."
    Source: http://pso2.jp/world/class/force/
This seems to contradict you completely. It sounds to me like this is saying the talis is like a medium for your techs, not that they have a specific tech linked to specific talis.

Shizuru? Hell yes, I got decent combos on him. All you have to do is lock on. Unless he goes to the other side of the room for that gun rape attack, you'll hit him when he pops up again just in time to keep up the chain. When he does the gun rape move, just roll towards him. For some reason, it doesn't work if you're right next to him.

The easiest way to deal with that is to steamroll the clones ASAP. They're highly vulnerable to stun and freeze, so hit them with the appropriate trap at the start of the battle, and you can usually take them down before they recover.
Newmen are in a great position to fight the real Shizuru because of their insane evasion even as hunters. Spam traps when possible, keep a lock on him, and a good pair of high % light double sabers will tear him a new asshole.

I have my doubts. That mechanic (being able to equip a different weapon in each hand) seems to be missing entirely from the game.

    >>3247162
Wands were these weird little double-ended things in PSO that did exactly as he said, raise MST. The PSU series' wand is closer to PSO's Cane-class in design. Also, techniques functioned differently in PSO, they weren't bound to your equipped weapon as they were later.
    >> Anonymous 04/08/12(Sun)03:15 No.3269278
I don't know exactly what the issue is but I can tell you that in the alpha test (where Rods were the only available Force weapon) that techs are kind of a mix between PSO and PSU. You can equip a tech to your rod which gives you a bonus and may charge faster, and allows you to combo techs with your melee attacks. But then you can also have other techs waiting in the hotbar, to cast freehand.

They're closer in form to how they are in Zero rather than Universe, though, many can be charged. I don't recall there being a chain system like Zero or Portable 2 in the alpha, but the way it's set up you'll need to use normal attacks all the time as well anyway.

    >Less than 2GB RAM

    >No real Video Card, just the chipset on the motherboard

It's already looking bad but luckily, all you need to do is buy a new Video Card (which may need a new PSU for it), buy some RAM (with a PC like that, I imagine you're using DDR2. 2GB DDR2 RAM cost £15, dirt-cheap) then overclock everything. Your processor, your Video Card and your RAM. There's tutorials on anything you don't know how to do online. Youtube is your friend and Google's your goddamn brother.

Also, don't make my mistake, if you're going to buy PC parts, order them online, you can always find them cheaper online and they're unlikely to be out of stock. If you're lucky, you can even find used PC parts which are even cheaper.

    God-speed Bro.

Things you should know about the attack system

    - Weapons have a three hit combo (ex: 1-2-3)
    - Combos/attacks have no combo limit(ex: 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3)
    - You can deal more damage by timing your attack button at the correct time(called a Just Attack)

    Regarding Hunter's Original Combo system.
    - Hunters get a separate three hit combo for PAs (a-b-c)
    - You may put PAs in any order(even the same PA three times in a row)
    - The PA that comes out is determined by which part of the combo it is
EX: 1-2-3 = normal attack string, a-b-c = PA string
    1 - 2 - c - a - b - 3 - a - 2 - 3
    - For the reason aboves, Hunter(weapons) does not have a sub-palette for PAs

    Rangers and PAs
    - Rangers can set three PAs to their gun
    - Rangers are free to use any of those three PAs at any point of a combo

    - PAs cost around 30PP(some cost more or less)
    - Standard max PP is 100
    - PP recharges at 5PP per 1 second

Doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Sega released the character creator for Phantasy Star Online 2 along with a program that tests your computer to see how well you'll be able to run the game when it launches later this summer. The characters you make with this program are confirmed to be usable in the closed beta that starts in a week or two, but there's been no official word as to whether these characters will be usable when the game officially launches.

Well, it's the true sequel to Phantasy Star Online, a game that came out over 10 years ago. While the series has had some entry every year since then in the form of updated re-releases and spiritual successors, this is the first time a true sequel has been developed. It comes out later this year, is planned to come out in every country and you can currently play with the character creator.

Not familair with the first PSO?

I don't know about other people, but for me, it's the simple fact that "toon" is so horrifically inaccurate. It's not a cartoon character on TV where you just sit back and watch shit happen. It's your avatar in the game world that won't move a single muscle (or piston in the case of casts) until you make it. It's like referring to spaghetti as ramen.

The reason people hate the word "toon" is because the first people who started using that term were the casuals who removed the entire immersion aspect from MMORPGs and started treating the world of the MMO like their shitty frat boy Halo parties.

It's practically a symbol that represents the release of WoW and the casualization of the MMO genre.

But PSO isn't an MMO so I don't fucking care, call them what you want.

Zero comes the closest to feeling like PSO, however in some areas it is even more primitive. The story and quests suck, (I mean, PSU tier suck) and the online infrastructure is weak, just pair up with friend codes or some random guys (if they still play). The areas feel more copy-pasted and less immersive than PSO, but the combat is better.

So I'd say check it out if you want something that feels like old-school PSO on the go, but Portable 2 is in general a better game.

That's like basically saying you never want the game to recieve new areass and weapon types in updates. The Vita is already pushing it, the 3DS definitely can't handle large scale PC updates.

Yeah, it would have no trouble receiving data, the main problem would be whether or not it could actually handle rendering all the enemies and player characters it needs to all at once. It would definitely have a tougher time at it than a Vita, but I don't know whether it would be enough to take it completely out of the running. It might.

I know nobody here would know this since the Phantasy Star Portable series got absolutely no support from Sega of America, but the Japanese version had everything you're talking about. There were constant updates that added new weapons, bosses, and areas, and that was on the PSP.

Not all of us have laptops, and not all of us are always at home. It's fantastic to know that when I eventually get a Vita, I'll be able to put PSO2 on it and play it when I'm away from my computer, which is more often that I realized before I got a desktop.
In retrospect, I really should have gotten a laptop.

Well I have been really hyped up since announcement, but this is the first time I've been seriously worried about the game... Only one character slot for free seems a little harsh.

Then again, the game client is free. I'm going to have to see how much all this costs and what things are permanent account additions. If I can permanently buy a couple more character slots and my player room for less than I would have spent on the game disk, I guess that's okay.

What does really worry me is that from that post they make it sound like every single costume element that isn't default will be cash shop. I guess I'm willing to go with that but I was hoping at least some would go for Meseta. I wonder if it will be possible for trade cash items for rares that drop with other players... Actually, now I'm worried about that item binding "once you equip a rare you can't trade it" thing...

A lot of "F2P IS A SCAM" people are starting to cry heretic at this. I guess we'l have to see how it turns out. Dammit don't let me down Sega.

For free, you get one character on your account. You get more character slots by purchasing them for one-time fees. In total, your account can have up to 4 characters per server, and no more than 12 characters total across all servers.

Would they even take someone's character if they're outside of Japan?

It is one character per account, regardless of server. Obviously characters on one server cannot be played on another server. You can have a total of twelve characters between all servers.

Regarding cash shop stuff, the purchase of character slots will most likely be permanent. It is also to note that you must "buy" the ability to sell/trade BUT you can still buy things from player shops for free.

Now this is jumping the gun a bit. All I've seen is that they were considering making your player shop something you have to buy, as well as "advanced trade features". Standard trade features like were in the original PSO will likely be free.

You could not trade items in both alpha tests.

The reason you must purchase this feature is to get money from potential market controllers(botters, people who will grind for days, etc.) This way, they are at least getting money from people who want to run the economy.

I hate to break it to you, but the link posted in >>3517578 pretty much confirms that. Sakai specifically mentions trading functions in a list of things that require monthly renewals.
Seems you and I are in the same boat at this point. I would have gladly bought a Player Room for a one time fee. I would have gladly bought player shop for a one time fee. I would have gladly bought trade features for a one time fee.

Now it's looking like not only will you essentially be paying a monthly fee just to have standard features like trading and selling, but you will STILL have to pay extra for clothes.

It's funny you should say that considering the first PSO had section IDs, which was a feature designed to encourage trading and ensure you couldn't get all the good items on one character.

I was a huge supporter of this game up until right now but suggesting that something as basic as fucking trading with other players is acceptible as a subscription feature in a free game is just absurd.

    - Players can purchase 30 day My Room Rentals
    - Two kinds of Arks Scratch, one that has costumes, and the other has costumes and consumption items.
    - There’s also a free Gacha called FUN Scratch, that uses FUN points.
    - You can get things like room items and cash items.
    - You can collect FUN points through player evaluations.
    - Like for example you can say “Good Job” to someone else and that will increase both of the players’ Fun points.
    - You can also collect Fun points by doing quests with Friend Partners.
*Friend Partners are NPC AI’s of your friends characters*
    - You can also get points by purchasing Arks Cash
    - Sakai plans to update the game every 3 to 4 weeks with maps, systems, scratch, etc,
    - Plans to add new classes later
    - The level cap once the game comes out would be around level 40. This cap will increase as the game progresses.
    - In the initial stages of the game, they will also have you select up to Hard difficulty for quests, but they plan to have several types of difficulties later. You can unlock these difficulties once you meet a certain condition.
    - After the game comes out they plan to add super huge bosses in multi-parties.
    - These bosses are much bigger than normal bosses, and you can have 12 players fight it.

Well, maybe. I suppose they could tie something to the room system (like titles, maybe?) but in the alpha pretty much the only thing you couldn't access outside of the rooms were room specific functions.

    Oh, and trading. Hmm.

Actually now that I look at it, the list of free player restrictions in PSU JP isn't terribly different here. They don't have access to rooms or trading there either. There's less that's actually dependent on the room's existance in PSO2 now than in PSU.

hey can anybody link me to a torrent version of the Character Creator?
I've been trying to download it since yesterday, I've been googling everything I can think of, but it seems like everywhere I go it links me back to the PSO2 website.

And every time I go to download this I get to about 257MB and then the download crashes and I'm left with an incomplete file. I've tried several links and even the one in this thread wont work for me anymore. Maybe it's my browser that's failing (google chrome), but in all honesty I'd rather wait for a torrent to finish than wait for an hour or so for my download to possibly fail.

    Thanks in advance

In alpha 2 there were two of them, so its not a big deal.
Rather, think about what block you are going to use generally, because there is like a hundred of them, and one block can fit in like, I dont know, twenty people. So even on one ship you people will be completely lost in 100 variations of the same hallway.

Cash Shop complaints are 100% invalid. The game is free to play. What did you expect? This also isn't some random company releasing some random game.

PSUJP uses the exact same cash shop features and it works out GREAT. These complaints are simply invalid as this model has already worked out for them. You guys are complaining about something that works right!

It doesn't work right if it pisses off the players. It's huge problem -- the label says "free to play" but in reality you can't access all the content without paying. In that case you may as well just charge a subscription fee. It pains me to think of all the people who continue to participate in this system without any problems, while paying far more money than they would have for simple subscriptions.

The free-to-play model might gain profits for games that would otherwise have died, but that doesn't mean it's a GOOD one.

I still think it's high time a game tweaked the one-time-fee model for MMOs.

I'm pretty sure you didn't have to pay per month for your right to trade with other players in PSP2.

I don't mind a cash shop. But it seems like so many important features are something you have to renew monthly. So essentially it's a subscription game with a cash shop, and a limited free option.

    >-no mission restrictions
As far as we know. In time, this could go DCUO style full retard and have all new missions and gear in those missions be paid DLC.

    >-play every class on one character
Not confirmed. In fact, what has been confirmed is that you have to pay for an item to reset the choices you make in building your character.

    >-buy items from shops
Except for the fact that free to play players can't trade or sell their items, so you're never likely to have enough money to buy from player shops.

    -literally do everything
    See above.
Look, I know you want this to succeed. I wanted it to succeed, too, but if this is the kind of game where the cash shop nickle and dimeing ends up costing more per month than a subscription, I just can't defend it and certainly would never pull shit out of my ass, as you have, if I wanted to defend it.

You know the devs seem to be listening to fan concerns lime with the Vita complants, maybe if we post our complants on the official blog and Facebook in Japanese they will at least make a statement.

I won't speak for all of you but way back when PSO2 was first announced I was totally prepared to drop $50 on the game itself and $10 per month to play.

I feel as though we've been sort of bait-and-switched, with them first telling us the game was F2P and now we see it's more like Freemium. But now that I'm over the initial shock I can see that we're really not any worse off than we were back when we thought the game might be subscription. My Room being a rental left a bad taste in my mouth, but that's just because it's a feature I wanted. Now I probably won't go for it, which kind of sucks but I'm saving money.

I think they just kind of handled the announcement badly, in the wrong order. F2P made people think this would be a low quality F2P game, and then the subscription announcement made people feel like they were paying monthly for an F2P game.

But really if this game is at least as good as the first PSO, which I gladly payed $10 a month for, I wouldn't mind giving up $10 every now and then for some premium features.

Basically, the recent announcements mean it won't be the "holy shit greatest bang for your buck of all time" game it looked like before, but I think it will still be a good game that I can get my money's worth out of.

As someone who only played PSO, the fact that Portable 2 (which most people seem to praise highly) prevented weapon trading so much is really surprising. Hunting rares is such a huge part of the game, it really feels like it would be horrible to not be able to trade them.
    >> Anonymous 04/13/12(Fri)23:36 No.3671118
    >>3670743
It was one of the few ways to prevent duping weapons (trade with someone, then turn off your game without saving. Boom. Both of you have an uber weapon). Of course, like all such measures, it only hurt the legit players since hackers would just hack themselves to max level and the best gear.

It's going to be hard to play while studying for finals but I'll manage.

I don't think I'd enter the character creator contest even if I would be eligible for sure.

I'm so fucking OCD I don't think my character will ever be "right."

If I had an NPC of them in the game or a one-of-a-kind item of them it would just fucking haunt me every day.

Thank god for the makeup counter.

Depressing. Guess I'll just be checking our PSO2 threads occasionally then...

I don't know if any other games ever attempted this, but do you guys remember when Lord of the Rings Online launched they had a "lifetime membership" kind of option where you payed for like a year and a half of subscription up front and never had to pay again? It's the kind of thing that would only be worth it if you absolutely knew you were going to play the game really long term, but I was just thinking I would totally drop that cash for PSO2.

Really the thing that bothers me about the subscription feature is just My Room. I don't think I'd be able to justify paying monthly for a fucking fictional space to display furniture. Maybe if the advanced trading + player shop + My Room bundle is good enough, I'll go for it.

I never played a game after Universe, I was really looking forward to decking out my room but like hell I'll pay for the privilege.

I'm interested in submitting my character just for the hell of it, but I've no idea on what to fill in the comment box section. Do we have to think up of a bio for our character or something? Does it have to be in moon? etc
    >> Anonymous 04/15/12(Sun)00:09 No.3739486
    >>3739301
I don't know how to answer the first part of your question, but yeah I can tell you they will pretty much not read it unless it's all in moon.

The eligibility for a foreigner to win is already questionable, if you write in English they won't even bother I'm guessing.

Games with limited lifetime subscription options are looking for a short-term boost of cash. The other company famous for offering them is Cryptic, with Champions Online and Star Trek Online, and it turns out they had a contract which offered hefty bonuses if they made $X within Y months.

I doubt PSO2 will offer it because it's working off the PSU/PSP model, which did well in Japan. Offering a lifetime subscription would kill profits from their most profitable base- hardcore fans- so I doubt they'll do it unless they're really hurting.

As for My Room and whatever, if everything I want costs less than a monthly subscription, it'll be worth it for me. I don't think I'd pay over $10/month for everything I want, and I doubt most people would.

My fault but Sega pretty much forced me to with their late and infrequent updates compared to the jap version. Pretty glad PSO2 is going freemium, I know I can do without a lot of shit.

Yeah it's annoying as shit, they should've just put a direct link to it or at least given us a mirror or two. If they could do it for the character creator why not this? Were they afraid people who didn't get into the beta would download it? Because it's happening either way.

I think I've lost all hope. My TERA pre-order was revoked because paypal froze my account, same thing happened with my GW2 pre-order, and now I'm not getting into the PSO2 beta.
