I don't think you know how Valve works. Also I don't see how anyone could get really hyped up for it. HL is probably my favorite shooter series and my hype amounts to "It will probably be decent"

Half life has been a critically aclaimed game for a long time. If news was true that it was coming out, people would be shitting in their nearest soda cans. Holding off on a game like this would be a good market ploy while also perfecting the game to no end. There would be huge deals for the full series and even more people playing 1 and 2.

I know a guy that works at Valve. He's not part of the HL3 team, but he's peeked at the source code and shown me some neat stuff.

It's not dead, it's just that Gaben's massive girth makes it impossible to get work done.

They're working on Source 2 right now, HL3 is going to be the tech demo for it, like HL2 was for Source.

I don't give a shit about Half Life.

I played 1 and 2 and though, "Well that was fucking dull".

Seriously, I can't even begin to figure out why HL is so popular. It's just... nothing. There's nothing to it, the story is shit, the gameplay is very and mindnumbingly easy.

Actually, Valve as a whole is pretty fucking bad. L4D, Team Fortress, just fuck that shit. Portal 1 is the only good thing to come out of that company, and Portal 2 fucked that right up.
