So I guess when Potter was constantly snatching others' wands he was actually summoning invisible demons through a blood pact?
>>
Could the Istari die of natural causes? I understand they were demigods (in a way) but were their lifespans indefinite or were they just incredibly long-lived like the elves?

Also, when Saruman was killed, didn't it say his spirit/soul was forced to wander Middle Earth for eternity in an incredibly weak state? Does that mean that Istari actually cannot die at all then?
>>
Disregarding that Gandalf is a higher being (look up Istari) and that Harry is a student, this is my interpretation of the three:

>Wizard
Centuries or even thousands of years old and powerful, either didn't start out as human or have ascended to something above humanity. The most power and wisest of the three, they are able to cast many spells and use very powerful magic. They are also well cultured and have studies many different things.

>Warlock
A young wizard, just starting on his journey. Can do pretty cool stuff, but has much to learn.

>Mage
Just someone who can use pretty powerful magic.

Lord of The Rings pretty much defined modern western fantasy singlehandedly.

Sorceres conjurs elements to create spells, he's Magicka.
Wizard learned magic for years and have spells that temper with the reality itself.
Mage can direct arcane torrents forming them into forcefields, blasts and projectiles.
Warlocks create pacts with demonic realms bringing their powers into reality.

Wrong. A warlock is a male witch, and witches usually use chants or alchemy to cast spells. Harry is a wizard.

A mage is someone who can cast magic without wands/staffs/alchemy/chants. They just have magical hands that can shoot fire and a shit.

A wizard learns magic through knowledge, hence why you had to go to school to become a wizard in harry potter.

Trust me, I have a PhD in magical studies. 300k a year.

I liked the DnD definitions.

Mage/Wizard: Pure arcane knowledge, studies magic for years reading books and practicing his art.

Sorcerer: Natural talent with Innate spellcasting ability, no studying required. Usually due to demonic or draconic heritage. Casts spells simply by willing it.

Warlock: Similar to sorcerer, innate casting ability due to demonic connections. A bit less of a pure caster, more like a wielder of sheer demonic power, which also increases his physical abilities a bit.

if we go by WoW logic, warlocks are like mages, only most of the shit they conjure require physical items. There's more ritualistic shit going on, so there's bound to be demonic themes as well.

Not sure about mages and wizards though. In Ragnarok Online, wizards were the advanced class of mages (and recently sorcerer being the 'ultimate' advancement), so i'm assuming they're better in some way.

Gandalf is more of a sorcerer (more powerful than a wizard).

Eh, not really. All blizz games are simplified versions of common tropes in media. Rogues are the sneaky, deceitful stereotype, paladins are holy overzealous warriors, shamans are native americans, etc.

The point is, if warcraft portrays warlocks as "hurr evil demons", it is undoubtedly derived from a known stereotype, hence why i'm assuming warlocks are associated with demonology and evil shit.

There are 4 "core" classes that can branch off into hybrids.

You have the Knight, which has alot of health and can dish out alot of damage in melee combat. It's a tank.

You have the Ranger, basically kiting the enemy with arrows from a long distance.

You have the Thief, the sneaky and fragile bastard which uses stealth and tactics to overcome enemies.

You have the Wizard, a very weak old man with low hitpoints, but which has elemental magical powers.

The Knight can branch off into different hybrids, for example into a "Paladin". You get some magical powers in exchange for slightly less HP.

The Ranger can upgrade into an extremely accurate sharpshooter or an archer that can shoot arrows in rapid succession.

The Wizard can for example branch off into a healing class (Cleric) or specialize in a specific element
(Fire, Ice, Thunder).
>>
Would a necromancer be a wizard or warlock or sorcerer, depending on his backstory, who has devoted all his magical magicness to one specific field, in this case being the dead.
And you would have a pyromancer and whatever other mancer focused on their other specific fields that they particularly enjoy?

My breakdown:

Wizard: Well-rounded knowledge in everything magic, usually through years of experience.

Warlock: Reliant on outside forces or items. Demon summoning and contracting, wands, artifacts, things like that.

Mage: Fledgling spellcaster, usually focused on one or two schools of spellcasting with a particular purpose in mind. Usually the type you'd append -mancer to. Necromancer, Geomancer, Chronomancer, etc.

I definitely won't recommend the SEA servers, but there's the new US version they just launched this year. Previously the US version is called Sword of the New World but I dunno what is the new name they went for. They are still adding contents like crazy and apparently even the japs like it.

And yes it's all about Victorian/Renaissance and it takes place during the colonizations of America.

The vampire like any other demonic creature can be purged by an exorcism, it wont fully stop him but it removes the curse or supernatural spirit from this dimension.
Think of it as a person that is possessed

Learn that the difference is based on what game you're playing, it could save your life.

Seeing as Tolkien was instrumental to establishing the concept of the wizard that future games and stories drew from, I think his unique classification is worth something.

I've never been a fan of the skewing in Western media of Wizard/Sorc/Warlock from DnD. But I'll acknowledge it's the mainstream example of each case.

Necromancy isn't even magic. It's closer to miraculous in nature. Like something a Cleric would do.

Traditionally

A Wizard is a caster who has gained his power through study. He spends his time going through tomes and preparing spells. His power is a product of hard work and learning.

A Warlock is a caster whose power comes from borrowing the power of other beings. They tend to form pacts and summon things for their abilities.

A Sorcerer is a caster which magical lineage. They have an ancestor who is a magical being generally and casting spells comes naturally to them.

Mage doesn't refer to the abilities of a caster. It is generally just a formal term for "magic user". As such it is commonly used in organizations such as a military. It is basically a just a catch all generic term for magic user that anyone can use to refer to any magic user.

That's what they are, except not limited to just smiting forbidden magic use. They embody the values that their deity upholds.

A paladin of Ilmater, the god of martyrdom and suffering would probably take upon himself a lashing punishment that would otherwise be given to an innocent.

So are there non-Sorc magical beings and descendants? Wouldn't, like, Deva/Amaar and Tieflings always be Sorcs?

It's probably the DM's story for his main villain.
