Xbox One was built to look similar to the PS4 on paper, but in practice its capabilities are probably more comparable to the WiiU even if it is the more powerful of the two since the Xbone has to sacrifice a lot of power for Windows and its DRM schemes for Blu-Ray playback and games as well as its inferior graphics API.

This is simply offloading less time critical calculations. Just about anything that doesn't mind a 100ms delay can be sent to the servers, assuming the servers aren't over capacity.

The streaming process is similar but not quite the same as onlive, which obviously is a shit idea to do since that ran like shit.
Also the streaming itself runs parallel to the game you're running which results in a bigger process loss then gain if used for bigger things and it adds the problem of lag
So the only thing it would make sense to use for is gimmick shit such as online saves like the steam cloud already uses

The difference in performance comes from the GDDR5 ram in the ps4. It has higher bandwidth which helps for graphics. The processor will have to pick up the slack for the slower latency though. But even still with reports that the xbone is being underclocked due to overheating, it still won't matter.

Do you honestly think developers will actually change versions between the Xbone and PS4? While it would be nice, I doubt it since it'd just increase costs. What that ultimately means that MOST LIKELY both versions will have same graphics. And when both have same graphics to render, superior hardware will only net you more FPS.

And what good will more FPS do when you're above 60 FPS? Just about nothing.

So unless developers actually capitalize on the fact that the hardware might be better on the PS4 and possibly give it custom graphics options, this news isn't all that important.

5000 series had more shaders and flops overall than the 6000 series yet the 6 series performed better. The same thing happened with 7000 series as well.


Here is a better example too, the 5770 and 7750 when compared on paper the 5770 wins in all aspects, yet the 7750 matches it in benchmarks or slightly falls short a frame or two.

5770 has 800 shaders while the 7750 has 512.

5770 has 1,360 gflops while the 7750 has 819 gflops.

Not to mention the 7750 runs entirely off PCI-E power as well.

Smaller sized die reduces power consumption, scales with price, and increases speed due to shorter channels. This is fact. If you do not think it is on par with a 7850 or past it, then I disagree, but we'd have to see. PS3's (and 360's) are roughly equivalent to a 7800GT and perform better than it.

It will probably eventually produce really great results as the amazing amount of optimization that consoles can receive comes into play, but any comparison to desktop hardware is increasingly inaccurate due to the heavy integration that is happening with these SOC based systems.
