Valve doesn't even take away your games.

They just restrict you from purchasing, gifting or trading new ones.
>>
>>195932112

OP. Check your credit/debit card. If you went over the limit/overdrew when you buy a game this tends to happen. Also contact support ASAP. If you did nothing wrong you can probably solve this problem in 2-4 days.

PROTIP: They never do this for CD-Keys. They only remove the infringing game on your account AND NOTHING else.
>>
OP clearly fucked up big time or was stupid enough to believe in someone's "generosity" on /v/.

The only way to get this is if you're scamming people and you get caught, you're hacking, or if you accept a gift from someone and they claim someone stole their credit card. I've also heard that accepting a CD-key from someone who then claims their CD-key was stolen is another way to get banned.

If you ever accept a gift from someone make sure you screenshot the entire chat log and state that you have proof that you thought it was a genuine exchange. There are nice people on /v/ sometimes, but many times you might get fucked, it's better to just not accept anything.
>>

I even called up microsoft once and told them my XP serial wasn't working and they just gave me a new one for free over the phone.

It's called customer service and giving a new code is instant and guaranteed drama free as they are risking taking away the game from someone who bought the game, what if the second guy is the one who stole it from them?

TL:DR They don't dare potentially piss off paying customers and just hand out new keys like candy

Well, they banned me when one fuckwit on the support ticket (for a networking issue that their FAQ later clarified) misinterpreted my use of the phrase "DMZ" in describing my setup as a bloody hacking tool.

Though it turned out (through forum posts later that month) that putting your machine or subnet in DMZ does break Steam locally, which essentially spurred my request for support in the first place. This was a LOOOOOONG time ago.

But people aren't perfect. Never were and never will be, no matter how many steps they take.

I've also received an Xbox Live ban that I had to spend several days to get overturned (XBL account tied to a Bungie forum account during the Halo 2 days, I made them a nice little forum post describing how the matchmaking worked - from experience - and the problems it would create. Web admin (Achronos? or something like that) didn't like people using deduction to point out flaws in a game, I guess) and a Blizzard ban for 'hacking' (during a period where their own logs showed my account hadn't even logged on or been accessed in any way) that was fixed when I pointed out the Canadian consumer protection laws they were breaking.

Thiiiiiiiiis. Happened to me back in 2012. Some little cum drop from his mothers pussy got hold of my debit card info and drained my bank account. Out of the hundreds of dollars stolen, he bought several copies of Guild Wars 2 (like just released.) I contacted my bank and then in turn had them get my money back. They wouldn't talk to the Guild Wars company though, I had to do that myself. So I did. Pretty much the guy who bought them is fucked, or is probably some gook who sold them to unsuspecting fucks who themselves are now fucked out of an account.

Too bad this cunts over at Guild Wars never let me file the whole thing through the police. They obviously have info, they could get someone arrested for it. Still pretty mad. Was out of several hundred dollars for like a month.

What year was this? Valve changed a lot of it's policies on banning since a few years ago. For example if you were gifted a game that was later charged backed the one who accepted the gift would get banned. Later changed to the gifter with gift revoked and now changed to not being able to purchase anything from Steam.

Valve rarely locks you out of your account now. Hell abusing the coal promotion didn't get get the Russian who had 500 accounts perma banned. He was fucking banned from future promotions.

>VAC1: On its initial release, VAC would issue bans for faulty memory. Valve quickly updated VAC to only kick for faulty memory.

Early Steam was a trainwreck, this is known and we're over it.

>VAC1: Running a VAC-protected game through the Cedega software compatibility layer for Linux

Steam was made exclusively for Windows systems, you cannot force it to run on another operative system and expect everything to go smoothly.

>VAC1: An apparent server-side glitch on April 1, 2004.

Early Steam, loads of people affected at once, obvious glitch.

>VAC2: Over two weeks in July 2010, approximately 12,000 owners of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were banned when Steam updated a DLL file on-disk after it had been loaded into memory by the game. Those affected received a free copy of Left 4 Dead 2 or an extra copy to send as a gift.[

12000 people who happened to all own MW2 were banned, Obvious glitch that was fixed and accounts status restored.

>VAC2: In January 2011, owners of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Black Ops were banned due to their computers being infected by the trojan Win32/Spyeye.H.[

Same as above. Also people dumb enough to get infected. They were probably visiting websites they shouldn't (like cheating programs sites).

>VAC2: The X-Spectate tool, which allowed server administrators to enable a translucent wallhack effect while spectating to help decide if another player was doing the same. Later downgraded to a kick from the server, but bans not rescinded.

It's an hack.

Hack.

Oh my.

Valve specifically has services in the game to allow for external hooks for things such as media players, sprayhelpers, and other non-influential assists.

Rightfully, it will trigger a ban or similar when said external tools and services attempt to modify or access something they shouldn't. However, in the case of HLamp (and HLSS and HLDJ and some amateurish HLTV clones) that actually isn't happening, and the ban triggers in error entirely due to Valve's mistake(s).

These probably shouldn't exist, and definitely shouldn't be usable by an automated system.

They should definitely exist and the automated part is not rogue, it only checks for known cheats or if you are blatantly accessing memory you shouldn't. Manual VAC bans are also applied when enough evidence is provided.

I never had those dead island copies removed. Well, my one. I had one on a smurf don't know what happened to it.

Probably cause I ended up never playing it anyway, cause it was easier to play with a friend who got it for his PS3.
