Why is Assassins Creed so popular with casuals?
>>
It's easy as shit and looks fancy
>>
I remember when Ass Creed wasnt so popular and /v/ liked talking about it.
Just like Minecraft.
>>
Because there's literally no challenge at all, it hardly even qualifies as a game. You basically just tell the character to kill the guys, I'm not even sure if it's possible to die in that easy fucking game

Ass Creed 1 was okay, cool enviroment and new IP.
Ass Creed 2 was pretty good, took the concepts of 1 and Improved upon them.
After that:
>AC 2-2, AC 2-3, the ride never ends.
It's like they just tried to milk the series without even trying to hide the fact at all. Revelations was a god damn filler episode of a game.
I haven't played 3. Got burnt out of the series.

>>
>>172886528
I got tired of the first game about a third of the way through when I realized that not only was it the same repetitive missions over and over again, but combat required no skill or effort whatsoever.

All you do is get everyone you want to kill gathered around you, hold down block with the sword, and then counter them to death when they try to do anything (which, naturally, has an enormous window).

None of the later games even changed this, from what I've been told. That's probably why it's popular, though. "LOOK HOW COOL I AM I'M A COMBAT MASTER!"

It's the only mainstream "stealth" game in these times.

Yep, that's how it is in AC3
At least you have to block when a giant red circle appears over the head of the guy you're fighting in AC3, it's not like you can just stand blocking for eternity
Which is nice, I guess

Also, actually attacking will get your shit stomped, the enemies block about as well as you do, and there are more of them
That, and they'll just attack you while you're attacking someone else.

It's real-time "press M2 to not die", pretty much
>>
>>172887420
Combat in AC3 is great if you turn off the SSI HUD indicators.
>>
>>172887754
It doesn't change the combat, it just means you have to think a slight amount
>>
>>172888118
sorry forgot that thinking is bad
>>
>>172888337
It's so slight it might as well not be there
Instead of "oh, red circle, time for M2", it's "Oh, that one animation they do every single time they're about to attack, M2"

You might as well just change the color of the circle
>>
>>172888337
I think the point he's making is that turning off the indicators turns it into something resembling the combat from the original.

Combat that just posted about, explaining why it's shit and dumb.
>>

I liked AssCreed 1's story and Philosophy 101 stuff, but it was easy as hell.

I started playing AssCreed 2 from the Steam sales, and I am really digging the improvement on the stealth mechanics, and it's a lot more fun to play. A shame actual combat still mostly boils down to countercountercountercounter. I really want to goddamn praise it, but its lack of difficulty and not quite achieving its goals just stops me.

Anyway, as other people have said in this thread, it's mainly because it's easy and probably because SO CINEMATIC AND DEEP.

I'll be honest, i didn't even know about the whole counter attacking thing until about three fourths of the way through brotherhood. I feel like such a casual, but then again, I went through the first three games without using something so incredibly cheap. Hell, in ACIII I still try not to use counter kills. I mostly just throw them around and disarm them until they lose their spaghetti and run off.
>Oh shit he disarmed me, oh god here comes the sw-
>and now he's off fighting some other guy... I'll just sneak up behind him and-

THE FIRES OF WAR CONSUME THE LAND, AND THOUSANDS OF LIVES ARE LOST IN ITS DEFENSE. IT SEEMS A TRAGEDY, BUT I SAY, THIS IS AN HONOR! TO DIE IN SERVICE TO GOD, FIGHTING FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE IN. THERE IS NO GREATER GLORY THAN THIS.

BE WORRIED FRIENDS, THE SHAYTAN IS EVERYWHERE! WATCHING, WAITING. HE TEMPTS US ALWAYS. BE STRONG, STRONG LIKE SALADIN, AND TAKE UP ARMS AGAINST OUR ENEMIES IN WHATEVER WAY YOU CAN.

SOUTH COMES THE ENGLISH KING AND HIS INFIDEL ARMY. THEY LEAVE HORRORS IN THEIR WAKE. SALADIN RIDES TO MEET HIM, THAT THESE BARBAROUS ACTS MIGHT BE AVENGED. PRAY THAT GOD, GLORIOUS AND EXHALTED IS HE, FIND FAVOR WITH US, THAT HE MAY GRANT US VICTORY.

I STAND BEFORE YOU TO DELIVER A WARNING! SHOULD RICHARD TAKE JAFFAR, THERE WILL BE NO STOPPING HIM. HE WILL MARCH ON JERUSALEM NEXT. WE MUST END THIS BEFORE IT HAS A CHANCE TO BEGIN. THAT CITY IS OURS, HAS ALWAYS BEEN OURS! AND IT IS OUR DUTY TO DEFEND IT UNTIL DEATH. THE CRUSADERS MUST BE DESTROYED!

PRAISE BE SALADIN! HE HAS FOUND THE STRENGTH TO STAND IN DEFENSE OF OUR GREAT CIVILIZATION. MAKE NO MISTAKE, IT IS OUR VERY EXISTENCE WE ARE FIGHTING FOR. THE INFIDEL KING WOULD SEE US ALL WIPED FROM THE WORLD. WE MUST RESIST! WE MUST PUSH BACK!

CURSE HIM! CURSE THE CHRISTIAN KING AND HIS ARMY OF INFIDELS. THEY GO AGAINST THE WILL OF GOD AND MUST BE MADE TO PAY! EVERYWHERE THEY RIDE, THEY LEAVE ONLY SUFFERING IN THEIR WAKE. THEY SAY IT IS A CRUSADE. A CRUSADE FOR WHAT?! IGNORANCE? VIOLENCE?? MADNESS! WE MUST RESIST. WE MUST FIGHT THEM IN ANY WAY WE CAN.

It's fun, stop whining.
>>
>>172891464
Well, I know what you mean.
If the people are playing seriously, you have to cope up with their work and you have to do some multi-tasking in capturing, defending, and upgrading.
I don't think I have ever lifted my hand on my mouse when those things start to happen since there's always something happening within every area of the minimap.

Plus, it gives more stress when you start to lose, since your enemies have already upgraded their units to Level 3.

>>
Because anyone can play it. There's hardly any challenge unless you go for the optional objectives (in which case it's impossible holy shit).

It's also got a fun story to keep people interested.
>>
>>172893610
Indeed. I did enjoy the series, I never said it was challenging, but I still enjoyed it.
And, if you actually read the freaking data entries, it's pretty historically accurate. it even contradicts its own storyline in some very small areas. I guess i just like the Italian Renaissance and the whole secret conflict thing.
Also, I don't want seem like an asshat here, but i honestly would like to do the whole assassins Templars themed dorm room. I actually tried a similar thing with some friends of mine in airsoft. We all had some cheap spring guns that looked like flintlocks, some tricorned hats and some sturdy plastic swords, we went out into the woods in the deep snow and did a sort of "V.I.P." style game. it was actually kind of interesting. I assumed it would be "templars guard V.I.P. by staying in one spot and talking about how much dick they suck and how LOL EEVULS they are" but it ended up being the V.I.P. having two of the most unobservant and awful shots we could find as guards (with about fifteen attendants to scout the area and who specifically did not know the V.I.P. or guards) while the assasins would try to guard the V.I.P. in secret from the Templars who would try to infiltrate the attendants or guards or use force to attack the V.I.P. The catch was that the guards and all were ordered to shoot anyone who wasn't one of them. Assasins ended up climbing through trees and freaking downing the guards to join their ranks. it was sweet.

The ending pretty much sealed the fact that we are going to ignore the Templar/Assassin war and focus on the stupid precursor civilization (part of why I like 3 is it gets the apocalypse thing done with so we can just deal with this one bitch and move on.)

And those horrid first person sections that they replaced my awesome subject 16 puzzles with made me want to cry.

And to make an already overpowered character even tougher they introduced the bombs which I felt did nothing but drag things out... and thank goodness the tower defense game was only required once.

Additionally the optional objectives for 100% sync were the bitchiest there were, and that is even including the powder keg objective in AC3.
