Can someone please explain this to me? If the markers pacify all of the necromorphs near them then how do they send their signal out to reanimate the dead in the first place?

In Dead Space 2 the necromorphs rush to the marker and go fucking berserk, killing everyone in their way so they can complete the convergence process. It's like they're contradicting themselves.

Also in Dead Space 1 they claim they've never heard of a marker before despite the fact one of the largest religions in the galaxy worships them.

Well, in DS1, the necromorphs had to be pretty close to the marker to be pacified, and it seemed more like they couldn't get within a certain distance from it or something. You never see any necromorphs that close to it in DS2, and there was never anything stopping them from killing everything on the path there before.

Kinda felt they were ripping off System Shock 2 big time in Dead Space

-Limited ammunition
-Set onboard a spaceship in the middle of no where
-Everyone onboard is dead
-Every deck in System Shock 2 is also in Dead Space
-Humans are brought back to life as aggressive necromorphs
-Entire point of the necromorphs is to infect other humans

I think they're both shit. Force gun was only really good against those very small headcrab aliens and contract beam took too long to charge up.

I used the Plasme Cutter, Machinegun and Line Gun and raped the game. Having more than 2-3 weapons seemed counter-productive as you couldn't hold all the loot you wanted.

Probably not but they copied a lot of things.

-Impossible difficulty was also the hardest difficulty in Dead Space
-You spend most of your time repairing equipment on the ship just like in System Shock 2
-You revisit decks
-The ship is orbiting the planet where everything went wrong
-Captain willingly places the alien artifacts on the ship
-One of the characters ordering you around betrays you
-You have hallucinations of the recently dead

It was so similar to System Shock 2 it was like repeating the same game except worse.
>>
>>175583010
This. I've never used any other gun in the entire series and I've played through the first two at least three times each, once for DS3.
>>
>>175581997
Actually Dead Space developed the way it did because when EA wanted to make a System Shock 3 they couldn't get a hold of the rights and instead developed a new IP with a billion and one influences from System Shock.

Some lines were even used in DS1 (or maybe 2, I can't quite remember) from the earlier areas of SS2 (of course re-recorded with the actor for the ship AI in DS)

So to say that DS is ripping off SS is both true and false, EA published System Shock after all.

I take issue with people who act like using only the plasma cutter was somehow a more skill-intensive way to play.

Reason being, the plasma cutter was pretty much the best weapon in the game. It could do damn near everything and ammo for it was cheap and could be found everywhere.

Acting more "hardcore" for using the most efficient weapon in the game is silly.
>>
>>175583594
I was just kidding, untwist your panties. You just don't need anything else, is all.
>>
>>175583364
No other game had a difficulty called Impossible during that time.

Why can't you accept that the game was pretty much a homage to System Shock 2?
>>
>>175583594
No one's acting more hardcore about using only the plasma cutter. It was just the most satisfying and awesome weapon in the series. Using a fucking engineering cutting tool used to crack planets as a weapon to dismember enemies? That is fucking awesome.
>>
>>175583594
>ammo for it ... could be found everywhere
You don't say?
>>
>>175583270
Yeah, it's a damn shame to see them go, but it's natural for businesses and even large corporations to fall and get sold to someone else willing to spend money to hit the industry the right way.

I expect EA to keep hemorrhaging money for a couple years until they finally sell off their IPs or go under new management.

Shame we still won't see a system shock 3. Apparently the rights are being held by some insurance firm that has no intention of letting go of it for anything short of a grand fortune.

I have played dead space 2 over 7 times now.
Ishismura always unnerves me and makes me tense and I am ALWAYS glad to be out. I always dread going back there.

No matter how well rehearsed I have that part. No matter how well I know every exact spawn, where each enemy is going to appear.

It always fills me with such unending terror and dread that I cannot explain.

OH BOY A DEAD SPACE THREAD!

I recently downloaded Dead Space and Dead Space two, obviously any sane person would want to start with Dead Space first, but my question is.
Are there any missable things? Do the storylines merge well between the two games, and do they keep things consistent?

How can I get the most enjoyment out of Dead space one and two?

I dont see why people say the third one was not as good. Personally I see it as the best. Isaacs internal and outer struggles, the most fleshed out roles of supporting characters, near perfect gameplay. It has it's action moments, but still manages to scare the hell out of me at times. As a long time series fan I'm glad to see it so fleshed out, main story points revealed and so much. This was an amazing game, everything I could have wanted. I guess I can see what he means when it comes to the horror aspect. Gears of War was also supposed to be dark and slightly scary. Like the Berserker part in the campaign. After that game the sequels kept getting brighter and brighter.

Every time I go back to a previous game it looks darker and a lot more grim.

he was implying that the giant boss fights (that dead space 1 had) and the fact that you end up fighting human enemies (which makes sense in the canon) makes it not a dead space game. this game had plenty of atmosphere. the whole first few chapters on board the roanoke and such were classic dead space. even then on the planet had classic dead space moments. the first feeder encounters, much more. this is the most realized showign of the dead space universe yet. It hasn't lost its atmosphere, it's just varied it. rather it be the tight dark corridors that give you the classic feel, or the harsh unforgiving outside environments, the game has it all. I fail to see how you think it has no atmosphere.
>>

okay, I never said you didn't have the right to like it, by all means go ahead and enjoy it. I was giving my two cents, and you cant take it however you want.

I just got really bored with it. It lacked the atmosphere of the first two and was utterly non-scary. The first two weren't really scary either, but at least they had a persistent sense of dread and terror whereas in DS3 I don't feel any of that except for the regenerator sequences, and it's mild compared to the ones in DS2. It's not bad, but it's just nowhere near as good as the first two to me for that reason.
>>
>>175588383
But saying it's a bad game because you didn't like it is wrong.
For example, I hate fighting games, but I'm not about to say SF4 shat on everything it stands for and is a bad.
>>
>>175587947
To me one part I did not like about the story is it seemed rushed at parts, like characters would pop up with some revelation out of nowhere. I felt so bad for Isaac and got choked up at key points in the story. People complained that he was one dimensional in this game when I don't see it at all. He has emotion behind him, just as he did in the second. The game only needed 5 major characters though. Isaac, Ellie, Carver, Captain Dickwad, and Danik. Some of the others were pointless I can agree on. Captain Dickwad and Danik were necessary to give me someone to hate.

To me, the human enemies where fine. It really does make sense.

The derelect flotilla was, hands down, the best setting from any of the games. the automatic creepiness of a two hundred year old collection of rustbuckets made this the best part of the game.

It was good to have a few breif moments to "relax" around normal people, but most of the characters, where... well.. I felt bad when the old man died. But Santos, who was already terrified of the lift, you would think would have been the first one off the damn thing.

The story went... well, bonkers, in my opinion. i wont go into further detail.
lots of the enemies where annoying (Wasters in the moon? how?) and borderline copycat (wasters into Plagas) but sometimes, when the game wasnt spamming dozens at you at once, they really shined (the first few feeders, like anon said, when you had no idea how they would attack or anything)

the helmet lights in dark room are FUCKIN AMAZING, i just wish it did it in any dark room, and not just whenever the game decided.

I think the game is at its best until you land on Tau Volantis, starts downhill from there, hill gets steeper when Danik shows up (cunt) and takes a tumble off the cliff when you reassemble Rosetta.

but meh, thats just me. ive beaten DS1 and 2 13 times each, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

really? I enjoyed the last part of the game when rosetta was assembled. Flushed out the back story more showing you that this was not the first marker epidemic, rather that they whiped out an entire race before the humans. And the alien necromorphs scared the fuck out of me when I first HAD to fight one. I was like, no no no. And yes, I'm like you. This is my favorite series, and I've been so wrapped up in the story since the beginning. As soon as thy mentioned the moon to be honest i though of majoras mask.

>>
>>175589941
yep. and the end reminded me of crysis two for some reason. and the necromorphs kinda reminded me a LOT of the flood, after they "fleshed out" their story....

Honestly, i think not only out of the DS series, but of all the games ive played, the first game is just a really good game. id give it a 9/10, the second a 7.5/10, and three, id do 5/10 so far, but i havent explored the other game modes yet, so we'll see.

I really did like the flotillia section of the game. id play a game of just that.
