While that was bad, I can forgive it a bit since it was seemingly meant to show just how fucked up the current court system really was, so as to lead into the introduction of the jurist system that would be swayed more by common sense like that than by cold hard evidence. It could have been better executed, sure, but that was hardly the worst part about that case; the constant flashbacks and the complete imbalance of information between the two halves was what made it bad, not the fact that the court system was trying to rush the case along.
