    >UPDATE: We’ve just received a response from EA. Apparently they did NOT pull Crysis 2 from Steam. Rather, it was a result of Steam’s policies. Here’s their response:

    >It’s unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis 2 from their service. This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA.

    >Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service – many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis 2 from Steam.

    >Crysis 2 continues to be available on several other download services including GameStop, Amazon, Origin.com and more.

Now that Gaben has essentially killed off PC gaming, what console will you be getting? I'm obviously getting a PS3 for Demon's Souls and its other exclusives. Also looking forward to the multiplats PC never got too like Mortal Kombat and Bayonetta.

EA has and will continue to ruin every game it touches. That means Battlefield 3.

I have no doubt it was a good game at one point, but EA money has swayed the developers.

It will not be good, there will be massive launch day problems, and there will be more DLC than Call of Duty ever had.

EA Origin's store is placing the item in question at 10$ more than Steam had it.

Ergo, the competition=good theory is kinda breaking down.

Steam is well known for amazing prices, tons of great deals and promotions and free stuff.Origins is made by -EA-.

This, so hard. Notice how Valve doesn't give a fuck if games are also on D2D or any of the other download services, only EA's Origin.

And why? Undoubtedly because EA started some fucking bullshit like they're in the middle of pulling with BF3 that says unless you have it on Origin, you don't get additional content. Valve, of course, says "So now our customers don't get all the content they should? Fuck that."

    And now we have this.

Fact : The second the game was "pulled" by Valve, it appeared on Origin as AN ORIGIN EXCLUSIVE GAME, that cost $10 more than it did on Steam.

EA removed all their recent games from Steam. Origins has a download limit on their games, Steam does not. EA was probably trying to enforce said limitations on the steam copies of the game. Crytek isn't happy with the move and neither are all of the studios. Steam is BIG and for good reason. They are a central hub for games. Once publishers all have their own little hubs, it will go down the drain. Note that this only "affected" EA so far and not all the other guys, not even Microsoft who still have most of their GFWL games on Steam (they never offered some to begin with)

They can try to copy all they want. That doesn't mean we have to like it. Unlike most other companies, Valve has a good reputation among PC gamers.

Microsoft tried to pull that shit off too when they first released GFWL. That shit ended up going nowhere. Not having your games on the most popular distribution service is butchering your own sales.
    >> Anonymous 06/15/11(Wed)21:32 No.98944299
Origin is debuting as a direct competitor of Steam. It really doesn't matter if EA pulled the game or Steam pulled the game because either or is a good business decision.

If you has, say, a store and the producer of one of the products you sold on your shelves came over and told you that they were going to go into direct competition with you...would you still carry that product? Of course not. Makes perfect sense. I don't see why this is being so sensationalized.

    >no you don't
    >you can buy them off any non-steam source
    >direct2drive, hard copy, whatever you want

I already have origin installed (it's EADM), I want steam to manage all my games even if they use GFWL or anything else. Direct2Drive uses it's own weird shit which cause problems for certain games (bethesda crap and mods), I don't want a hard copy and I don't want to have to go back and forth checking between multiple retailers for sales and shit. It's inconvenient and ultimately more trouble than it's worth.

Having origin opened or closed as well as steam aren't the issue here at all. I have 8GB of RAM, and steam takes like 100MB if anything.

Competition is as many digital retailers as possible selling the same games for competitive prices trying to earn my hard earned cash.

    >Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service – many of which are not imposed by other online game services

oh, so I could buy Activision products using EA's Origin service which Activision wants to keep exclusive to whatever shitty digital distribution method they use? Awesome

i don't mind correcting my posts, since you know /v/ loves to pick apart trivial shit like that rather than address the topic at hand

    you don't have to
    nobody is forcing you to
you never have to launch origin again

when valve wanted to compete with direct2drive, valve didn't have any 3rd party titles available while direct2drive had only third party (obviously)
you gave valve a chance to expand, what's the issue here?

    did i miss something new?
    what happened to bf3

cause as last i saw, there were some preorder items that make you deal LESS damage or are purely cosmetic
though apparently the redditretards got all up in arms over it and spammed 4chan into a shitstorm, when nobody gave a shit about it more than two weeks prior

I seriously wish the Valve defense force realized that this has already been confirmed. Origin does not need to run while you are playing unlike Steam.
    >> Anonymous 06/15/11(Wed)21:51 No.98946349
Bullshit, there are shitloads of games on steam that are on other services.

It can't be worse than what Valve did to Portal 2.

So, why the fuck would I need origin anyway ? EA already has a store.

It's sounds like they're preparing for a lock-down system, but just not yet ready.

That's some great conjecture, care to put up a source?
