The
reason for Nintendo naming the project "Project Cafe" is because they
want to break down the barriers of playing at home, and playing away
from home. The idea being that the "Cafe" is set up in ones home as a
central "hub" of entertainment where users gather (much like at a, well,
cafe), while the 3DS and Game Pads are used to enjoy the majority of
the content on the go, until you get home and continue the adventure, or
vice versa.
The "Cafe" would "serve" up content to the Game
Pads and 3DS. Movies, music, videos, social media integration, the
works. Alternatively, 3DS and Gamepad users can talk to the "cafe" and
stream content from their handhelds as well; Photos, videos, movies,
etc. Its alternative title, the stream, also respects this ability.
Yeah,
its going to be mostly casual shit, but REALLY FUN casual shit is what
Nintendo has in mind. No so much SNES v2, as much as Gamecube v2. All
the half-ideas they've been using, are really going to come to fruition
this generation. Portable/handheld connections (been around since the
N64 game pack add-on, and GBA connection for the Gamecube), "Capturing
Human motion and interactions as "wii" intend" (Touch screens, motion
sensing, heart-beat monitoring, cameras, gyroscopes, etc), "Next
Generation Visual experiences" (3D output capable to a 3D display, 3DS
connectivity to serve up 3D data/photos/movies to it, 1080p next-gen
graphics for a more classic experience that still out-performs
current-gen machines and will remain on top for some time), literally,
its all going to be there. Nintendo really did take a look at everything
they've done in the past, and refined it all down. Each other gen. is a
sort of testing phase, with every subsequent generation being
refinement and perfection (SNES - Stable, N64 - Testing Phase for 3d
experience and console expandability, Gamecube - Stable, Wii - Testing
Phase for "using the human body as the controller", Stream - Stable.) |
