Back in 2008, when production on Portal 2 first began, developer Valve was creating a game without portals. Portal 2 was originally a prequel, set in the 1950s, utilizing a brand new gameplay mechanic that excited people at Valve.

The concept, codenamed F-Stop internally, lasted five months until it was canned. While Valve loved it, the testers hated it. They wanted portals in their Portal 2. They wanted Chell and GlaDOS, the pair of characters that made up the entire cast of the first game.

Unfortunately, the exciting new gameplay mechanic that never made it out of Valve is still being kept secret behind studio doors. Valve boss Gabe Newell has chosen not to disclose it. Perhaps they’ll use it for a future game in the franchise.

TLDR: Despite what they say, gamers don't really want original content.

Drastic change is not a good thing when it takes place in the same franchise. You play game X because you like the features of game X.You buy the sequel expecting to have those same features.

If they wanted to implement whole new gameplay mechanics or remove game defining ones then they should save it for a new IP.

    Also, Gabe is a jew.

And I'm glad that people in the Valve userbase feel free to speak up and point out that the purpose of a sequel is not the exact same thing. Normally you get laughed down if you point that out about a Nintendo game or something. Too bad braindead people are still the majority.

Well with Portal a lot of people loved the humor of Glados and chell. Why wouldn't people expect to have Glados return in Portal 2? It wouldn't be the same without her. As well the portal mechanics would be expanded upon greatly, as they have been, so things are still great with the game, and Valve can use the mechanics they worked on with their prequel for a separate game that can be based in the same universe.

No, you provided a bad definition as an argument and it deflates when considered against really common examples of expansions and patches. And then when that's pointed out, you claim that you want evidence from me. What you really want is an argument from me that you can pick apart, which (again) is not how this works.
