    Ah, thats probably why.

So did anyone actually like it?

What happened to their "massive overhaul"? They said they'd patch/update the shit out of the game so it would stop being a failure or something.
    >> Anonymous 02/14/11(Mon)11:16 No.86805135
No, god it's awful and they know it's awful. I hear they've made a lot of changes already, but I haven't heard of anybody reinstalling the game to see if it's any better.

I never played XI either or whichever other one was mmo... how do they work in final fantasy terms? Like, do they still have a good long plot revolving around your character? I don't get it.

    >>86804991

They basically took everything that made FFXI a great and memorable game and changed/removed it.

They changed things just for the sake of changing them, combat is painful, button spamming everywhere instead of timing, daily quests, money is easy to come by, mana regen is retarded, party mechanics are fucked up, and the community is shit.

In FFXI everything required effort to obtain, in FFXIV everything is handed to you or completely broken.

FFXI has an amazing story and your character plays an essential role in a huge plot spanning over several "episodes". Has full on cutscenes that your character appears in and everything. It's good shit.

Played the beta AND preordered the collector's edition. To say it's "bad" is an understatement. It's not even a game. It's a horrible, horrible time waster that will leave you wondering "what the fuck am I even doing" every could seconds. May easily go down as the worst failure in vidya history.

They are trying to resurrect it, but I honestly don't think it's even possible unless they scrap it and start over.

XI was beautiful, it had multiple storylines and all of them were as good if not better than single player RPGs. You can ask anyone who has ever played it and they will tell you the same thing, the story was orgasmic.

The best part about it was that you were literally playing through a single player RPG... except with your friends each playing one of the characters. Being able to experience the storyline alongside your friends over the course of a few months was so fun it's almost impossible to explain.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOhj1Jh90VI

This is the ending video to one of the storylines, after the entire story was over you were sent out for one last chat with the NPC and this sprang up out of nowhere.

FFXIV is the ONLY mmo I have ever seen where a CEO made a public apology on how bad the game was and that they're working hard to fix it. Also giving customers free game time till the game was fixed. I have never seen a bigger MMO disaster ever at launch.
    >> Anonymous 02/14/11(Mon)11:22 No.86805479
FFXIV is a pay to play MMO that has been out for nearly half a year yet no one has yet paid the monthly subscription fee. It's just that bad.
    >> Anonymous 02/14/11(Mon)11:24 No.86805544
It doesn't help that the devs are incredibly racist. They completely ignored the NA forum complaints and suggestions and only listened to the JP forums but then again they didn't even take 10% of the suggestions to make the game better on the JP forums.
    >> Anonymous 02/14/11(Mon)11:24 No.86805595
MMOs are fucking terribad. XI was shit, XIV is even shittier.

I believe the reason for their slow as fuck update/patches is because since the MMO world are keeping their eye on this game and how it would evolve they are taking a lot less risks compared to when FFXI was in beta phase in which they put a lot of their theory into the game.

    >>86805371

I'll give it another six months, just like how it took FFXI a full year before it was finally released worldwide. I hope we all keep in mind that back when FFXI was released, it was only released in nipland and those shitheads literally had nothing; they didn't even have chocobos until a year later (in fact, the release we get for FFXI release date actually included the so called expansion pack to the nips).

Unfortunately, not even I can hide the fact that you can only imagine that SE would learn their mistake and attempt to make shit prepared if they wanted to release internationally... They clearly were not.

    -No quests
    -No auction house
    -Not user friendly
-Long walks with no form of speedy transportation
-Crafting takes up far more time than fighting
    -battle system makes no sense
-entire towns of nothing because they forgot to put them in the game
-leveling is based around "leves" which you are limited to, and are limited, so you do the same stupid 4 minute task probably 30 times
-gear damage that isn't easily repaired
-all gear (and there is a fuckton of it) need to be repaired

-not enough mobs to level on

    >FFXI storylines

Never again will I experience anything like it in another game. The feeling of friendship and camaraderie it brought is unmatched by anything else I have gone through in my life, in a game or real life.

The friends I made in FFXI were some of the best Ive ever known, even now almost 9 years later I still speak to them and hang out with them.

There are still people who play but the game itself has changed too much in the past year or so, its nothing like what it used to be.

The enjoyment came from two large factors, one being that you basically had to group up for everything, and the second was that everything in the game required effort to obtain. This meant that you made a ton of really good friends and you always, -always- had a huge sense of accomplishment when you did anything, be it make yourself a little cash or level up.

The latest updates however basically ruined it all, they raised the level cap and casualized the game in preparation for FFXIV. Pretty much everyone who still plays has finished all the content and is only focused on the very plain and boring new endgame content that they introduced. Endgame used to be full of challenge and require a lot of time, patience, and intelligence to work through but all of that went out the window with the level cap.

I know there is a /v/ linkshell that goes through the old content with new players, but most of the playerbase like myself have moved on. I personally put in 1300 days of playtime (yes 31,000+ hours) from beta in 2002 till around late 2008, every single moment i spent in the game was worth it.

Got this a few days ago, been having a decent time.
My only complaint is you can only do some like 8 quests every 36 hours or something?

Which is okay I guess, considering I've just been mining my ass off.
People will talk if you talk to them first, someone even gave me 200,000 gil for no reason so that was nice.

Not sure why the game is so disliked, maybe I'll find out why as time passes, but for now I'm content with it.

What these guys won't tell you is that the game has horrible class balance and the amount of dependability you need on other people to do anything AT ALL in this game is outrageous, the horrible economy, and the insane amount of time it takes for a person that isn't NEET just to get a party so that you can level up. Here are your gripes, which are moot.
    >need people to do anything, next to nothing can be done solo.
That's kinda the point. It's a social MMO, and despite your gripe, there are several successful loners. You may not be skilled enough to rely solely on yourself.

    >imbalanced classes
This comes down to the social thing again. No one class should be OP as you are suppost to be just one small part of a bigger whole. Each class has a role and you HAVE to play to it's strengths symbiotically in you party.

    >bad economy
The economy is... ok... but it fluctuates. Chinese gil sellers ruined it, but SE has been doing a fine job of stemming their bad influence. If what you mean is you're having trouble making gil, then I'm afraid your IQ just isnt high enouigh for FFXI.

    -Levequests are quests.
-Okay, yeah, no auction house sucks. I can almost guarantee it's coming, though.
-Getting a metric shit-ton more user friendly.
-You can teleport. It uses anima, but anima regeneration has been reduced a ton, and I don't use it enough for me to ever run out to begin with.
-At lease I have some control over what happens in crafting, rather than sitting there, staring at it and just pray to god it doesn't break, wasting all my materials, like in XI.
-I don't know what didn't make sense to you about the battle system. I use it just fine.
-Towns have stuff. What are you looking for?
-I see you never found Behest, which happens at every camp, every hour, on the hour, which is currently the most awesome thing in the game. Plus, levequests now regenerate faster than they did at launch.

-Gear damage is totally easy to repair. Either do it yourself anywhere, find someone who can, or get one of the repair NPCs to do it for you.
-Well, at least they quit having to make you repair your underwear.
-Drop rates on what? What were you looking for?
-Character optimization? Gear optimization? Game optimization, maybe, because all the display options have to be done outside of the game.
-Mobs have increased, and since obviously it failed right at the beginning, there's not exactly an overflow of people grinding the shit you need, so this isn't a problem. Not to mention, they've raised the speed in which you level/rank up.
-No real class? WTF does that mean? Every class is a real class. Did you just specifically want them to be called Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage, Thief, etc?
-Okay, yeah, MP regeneration would be nice. At least you can go touch an aetheryte and have it regenerate fully and completely.
-It's not currently pay-to-play (and SE would be IDIOTS if they ever decide to actually implement it). And about that whole XP penalty thing - I have NEVER run into the XP penalty and have never found anyone who has. Since all the different classes have skills that compliment one another, I find myself switching classes wanting to get those skills, and I never hit that XP wall. Has anybody here played so hard in XIV that they've hit the XP wall? I mean, I play quite a bit and never have.

    >horrible class balance

The class balance was perfection, each class had a role and it excelled at it. Its quite possibly the only MMO to do the support class properly.

    >dependability you need on other people to do anything AT ALL in this game is outrageous

Thats the whole point of the game, you can only do things in a group. You may not enjoy it but the rest of us do.

    >the horrible economy

Not quite sure what you mean by this. Making money required effort, you can't just stand around and do nothing and expect to make money. If you wanted to get rich you had to work for it.

    >the insane amount of time it takes for a person that isn't NEET just to get a party so that you can level up

This is where friends come into play, if your entire take on getting a party was to throw up a party invite flag and sit in town silently then you were doing it wrong. Im personally a fairly shy person but even I managed to never wait around for a party on any class. Seeing as leveling was fairly slow you could make tons of friends with people around your level that you could talk to daily about getting a party setup. Ontop of that were all the simple ways, talking to your linkshell, talking to the other people seeking party, talking in general chat, and having a static party.
