I nearly shit myself when I found out, but it's actually Lynne going back 4 minutes in the past. There's a point in the game where she dies and you can't save her no matter how hard you try. However, due to plot reasons, she gains powers similar to yours and goes back to the time of your death. Because her powers won't let her save you, she chooses to help you get the answers that you need.

I feel like I can't talk too much about the game without spoiling something...

I dunno how I feel about that. The Ace Attorney series is still my favorite, but I really thought Ghost Trick was great too. I guess I was sad because Ghost Trick didn't really have the turnabout feel that Ace Attorney has. I never felt imperiled playing Ghost Trick, not in the way that the prosecution countering my good arguments makes me feel in AA.

The ending shows that Sissil got hit by the Tesmik shard, putting him in the same situation Yomiel was in. So he'll never age and is pretty much invincible. So the next game could just take a huge time jump and follow Sissil's life after Lynne and everyone is dead and gone.
