    OK "Realistic" games are pretty annoying to me, boring really and for thousands of reasons im not going to list and most of which are things that are meant to be perceived as realistic in the game when in fact it's far from it and anyone with an I.Q or attention span greater than the average gamer could have picked it up

    but thats another story.
    If there is one thing in every game that claims to be realistic that always pisses me of; its when the shotgun does this.
    CoD, MoH, stalker, all guilty of this retarded bullshit. Im not even from /k/ nor do I even visit /k/ very much, but there are hundreds of stupid things in "omgsorealistic" games like this that really bug the fuck out of me just out of how unrealistic that shit is when it's sold as realistic!

    I usually mod shotguns in the games I play so they're realistic. It makes them much more fun.

    As a rough average shotguns usually spread an inch per yard under a certain distance. 5 inches at 5 yards, 10 inches at 10 yards, and 25 inches at 25 yards. With some loads you might even get half the spread (.5in per yard). After 45 yards it gets a little ridiculous.

    For reference, the maximum range of shotguns in Black Ops is about 12 meters (before the shot suddenly vanishes).

    At just under half your range, their spread at their maximum possible 12.5m is probably five times worse than that 30 yard shot of yours.

    Keep in mind that spread is heavily dependent on the weight of the shot being used.
    Take bird shot for example.
    That shit takes a LONG ass distance before spreading.

    I doubt that bird shot is used in combat, but just to make the argument fair.

    Shotguns would rip shit up at any range depicted in most modern shooters, if slugs are an option then it would destroy anybody in one shot, people dont realize how insanely powerful a 12gauge slug is.

    If these guns were modeled as they really are then there would be no other choice in a game really, so yea, it pisses me right the fuck off when a load of buckshot vanishes after 50 feet or spreads out to car sizes, but still, the alternative would be one shot death cannons on most maps considering how small they are in most games.

    this is something I actually REEAAAALLLLYYYYY wish someone would be bold enough to change. Rather than starting with say, 120 bullets, start with 6 30-bullet clips and a fully loaded weapon. Each time you reload, you go down a clip rather than magical clip-shifting bullets.

    You could introduce something like every 30 seconds your character is alive, you get a free +1 clip resupply, but adding that kind of resource management to a FPS would be fucking awesome

    Like with most things, DOOM did it best. You can shotgun an imp from across a medium-sized room, but your accuracy will noticeably suffer at longer distances.

    Actually false. You see, if the game was realistic, it wouldn't need balancing at all. Why? Tell me, do you see actual military going into war with nothing but shotguns? If there is a reason to not rely heavily on them in real life, then there is a reason not to do so in a sufficiently realistic game.

    Main problem is they don't hold a lot of ammo. Also, if you're using a pump shotgun, having to do that in between shots is a huge draw back.

    Personally, I'd love to see a game where rather then health/shields/what have you, bullets have a realistic effect on your body. So, you get shot in the foot 10 times. Rather then dying, which realistically, you wouldn't if you were shot in a limb ten times, you'd start hobbling around at reduced movement speed and stumble and fall over randomly. Hand shots would prevent you from aiming accuratly or, for more powerful weapons/repeated shots, you wouldn't be able to use your weapon. The only way to kill someone would be a kill shot. I can't help but think it's be kinda fun dragging myself around a map on my stomach with my legs shot to shit, trying to kill people by holding my knife with my teeth cos' my hands were both full of bullet holes.

    The gameplay issue of having to use a crippled character could easily be solved by a system that calculated blood loss based on your wounds and had you slowly bleed out over time.

    If you got shot in the foot 10 times, you wouldn't have a foot left. This would be a problem as major arteries do go through it, so you'd probably pass out in less then a minute and die a few minutes later without medical attention.

    Anytime any appendage falls off, you have to act fast or else you're fucked.

    My god that is fucking horrible.

    It has Spas-12, which is also a pump-action (only few thousand Spas-12's have been produced, and only people who were interested in it, were civilian gun collectors).

    Also, my eyes fucking bleed when i saw that Neostead shotgun with magazine capacity of PATHETIC 4 ROUNDS, when in reality, it's 12. It makes me feel fucking nauseos....

    You get shot in the stomach once: you become incapacitated and bleed to death on the floor.

    There's always one freak who doesn't seem to play by the rules. More than one person has survived falling from an airplane without a parachute. yet if you jump out of one and expect to pull the same thing off, you're just committing suicide.

    The general rule is that being shot even once takes you out of the fight and if you don't receive medical treatment, kills you. Even if they shot you in the foot.
