    I don't get this, /v/.

Why, first of all, is Vanquish getting bad press? Game Informer shot it down for being "4 hours long", and now Jim Sterling gave it a 5.0 for, while valid complaints (some of them), it makes it seem more like he hated the game for not being casual as fuck.

And now, you guys, who trolled the fuck out of Fallout 3 for being "Oblivion with guns 2.0", have threads about New Vegas everywhere?

I mean, what the flying fuck?
    >> Anonymous 10/18/10(Mon)20:24 No.76131XXX
/v/ is casual. The game has the low point of it being short and no multiplayer, but that should set it at the same score as bayonetta.

Sterling is just a faggot, he wanted to hate it from the start.
    >> Anonymous 10/18/10(Mon)20:25 No.76132XXX
what? is it really that short?
    >> Jouten 10/18/10(Mon)20:26 No.76132XXX
Do you remember when the Demo came out for Xbox and /v/ was in an uproar about how fucking awesome it was?

Heard people and other fellows alike than:

The game time doesn't counts cutscenes

And than it is indeed around 5 hours and half in average. Might take you less, or more.

Even Platinum stated they wanted to go with an arcade-like experience.

    >>76131932
It's Bayonetta without Women and as a Third Person Shooter, as far as I see it.

    >>76132052

He took it down for the review embargo "not being ready"

In a tl;dr, it's him bitching about how he couldn't master the game mechanics and how he died constantly.

I've yet to hear anything really negative about it.

The only point that gave me a moment to pause was that is was short. Now, one of the devs stated that it was impossible to beat in 4 hours, even on casual (I enjoyed the stealth jab at the reviewer), but that might just be the dev running damage control.

So the only negative point as to whether or not it is a good game is the length, which might not actually be an issue as it remains to be seen.

As for me? I preordered it fully, and I only have to pick it up tomorrow, I think I will enjoy it, based on how much I enjoyed the demo.

As for why /v/ isn't talking about it? Not a clue man. I think it's sort of left of the radar at the moment, as much as /v/ loves to hate the mainstream games, we love to fill up our board with posts about it, meanwhile, Vanquish, which has had relatively little press is off in the periphery. Besides, we had our Vanquish circlejerks when the demo came out.

Scoreboards is the major reason to replay it. As someone mentioned earlier - might've actually been you - the game has a very arcadey feeling to it.

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor was just about as short, and that was a fantastic game. I'd be disappointed with the length if the game itself wasn't fun, but considering how much time I put into the 10 minute demo alone, I can't say I'll be done with Vanquish any time soon.

    Read.

The most important thing for me is that people try to play Vanquish as Vanquish and not as a generic cover shooter. I’ve seen any number of people play the game without really using Boost or AR and come away from it without having made the most of it. These systems make the game what it is, great instead of just good.

Game is awesome. Fast-paced action, giant mechas, arcade-style weapons that can level up, crazy bosses.

And, like Bayonetta, it's 4 hours if you're playing a casual difficulty or if you are really good. 8 hours otherwise.

This is what people said to me after picking up Bayonetta, but I wasn't very good at it so it took me like 13 hours to play through. Highly enjoyable tho, and I picked it up later again to play on hard and then on Infinite Climax mode. So I'm hoping I can do the same with this game.

Oh my god it's 4 hours long! I demand every fucking video game to have 3 hour cutscenes followed by large amounts of backtracking. And every new game must require shitty worthless multiplayer for me to play it!

Seriously though I can't wait to play Vanquish and play it again and again. It's the love child between Contra and Third Person Shooters. Platinum Games is the one of the few remaining developers who know how to make fun games.

This guide is your fast forward key.

    Here's where it continues:

    Robots dismantled
We take an in-depth look at Vanquish's many unique and highly lethal enemies. Each of their attacks is described in detail and strategies are provided to take them out both as easily and as quickly as possible.

    High-detail Maps
Expertly drawn maps accompany each section of the guide, making the strategies as clear as possible by marking out key positions. Every weapon pickup is highlighted so you always know what's coming.

    100% Completion
The Completion chapter makes unlocking and mastering all Extras in Vanquish as simple as possible. Includes separate guides for the Pangloss Statues, all Achievements/Trophies and the Tactical Challenges.

    The Art of Vanquish
See how Vanquish's sci-fi universe was created. The beautiful artwork, early designs and concepts that defined how the game looks is all presented here. Plus an exclusive interview with the creators of Vanquish, Director Shinji Mikami and Producer Atsushi Inaba.

    Exclusive Strategy Videos
Access the video section of future-press.com to find countless videos of strategies and techniques from the guide. They are the perfect supplement to the book, showing exactly how the written theory is put into action.

I feel like buying it for the cool art and such. But eh, I don't know. It IS 13$ at this moment on Amazon, but the fact that it's probably heavy and big will rape my wallet on International Shipping.

You know what I'd rather support Vanquish which is trying something new than support modern "good" video games that just rehash the same shit.

Judging by the demo Vanquish is the type of game I can have a blast replaying again and again, like the games of the NES. Video games are so absorbed now in trying to be an artform that they've forgotten that we play them to blow up shit and have cool moments. I'm not going to lie I was hoping for a big campaign full of hilarious cutscenes like God Hand, but this game still looks awesome. The press hates hard games, the press looks down on games that don't have multiplayer. 1) No multiplayer. And it's fucking short. Arcade style? Not when it's single player only. Piss off with the excuses.

2)It cost a whole $60. Argue as much as you want about OMG FUN! I rather spend that $60 on New Vegas, because it'll be FUN and LONG and MODS. Let's not talk recent games. I rather spend some of it on The Witcher or DMC4, if I hadn't gotten them already.

3)I didn't like Bayonetta. But I did like DMC 4... don't really know why though, so I really can't comment on the comparison with bayonetta.

4)If by trying something different equates to a full priced short game with just a little bit difference to it just because you scrutinize the gameplay. No.

What is it with you constantly trying to label me as a 15 year old, does that somehow make your point more valid? I'd really like to know because you are making yourself look immature by screaming that over and over trying to take away from what I am saying.

Epic said that RE4 influenced Gears of War.

Yeah, keep getting mad and keep digging a bigger hole, I'm sure your friends will think you're awesome for this.

Amen. Thank you chicken walker and disc launcher in round 5. Felt even better when I beat it a second time without a chicken.

    So influence makes it generic?

    >digging yourself a bigger hole
What, are you winning this argument? You are just using blanket statements to try to insult Gears of War and try to label me as a 15 year old to take away from what I am saying, and try to correct my grammar in which you were wrong again on. Yet you have still to say anything about your game whatsoever.

I love Gears of War and Vanquish. I think they're completely different games.

Its not generic, but its by no means original. I never even said Gears was generic, I just listed games that were made before it and play like it.

Now since you're so fucking anal about me comparing Vanquish to Gears, lets go.

Vanquish is fast, Gears is not.
Vanquish is stylish, Gears is not.

Now stylish is just taste talking, but if Gears wasn't slow as a sloth, it'd be a better game. If Gears wasn't extremely HURR WHERES MAH WIFE, LOOK AT MAH MUSCLES, it'd be better.

Its not even that the game is bad, its just not as fucking spectacular as you think. But again, thats opinion, I'm speaking out of line.

Maybe not the way you play it. When I play I'm fuckin' ballin'. Too much style. SMOKING SICK STYLE, I dare say.

no idea, I'm just shitting in a shit thread. Also, to those bitching about no multiplayer: THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE ASKING. THE GAME HAS AN INTEGRAL TIME-SLOW MECHANIC.
    >> Anonymous 10/18/10(Mon)22:21 No.76141XXX
    Oh brother. So much arsepain.

I bet if Vanquish was made by a (non-shitty) western dev the Vanquish likers would still like it. But the haters would all of a sudden not troll it.

The anti-japanese in this board fucking hilarious. Are you people THAT insecure?

So super fast speed makes it a better game? Not much of an argument there

    >Gears has no style
