In the prime series, you could can your environment. It gave you something a little more to do, completely fill your logbook.

Samus from previous games was nigh invincible and went on to defeat the Space Pirates by herself numerous times. Only a few times is she ever helpless, and they're for a good reason: her suit was missing. This way we have a character who's well rounded; she still has her weaknesses, but they're not bullshit daddy issues that need to be solved by a big man there to save her.

If you want to have a strong female character who is still "weak" you don't do it like how they did in Other M, because it makes no fucking sense and it's completely unrealistic and unreasonable. “No! I must kill the space pirates” she shouted
The radio said “No, Samus. You are the space pirates”

You know what's funny, before this game came out I was one of those people who looked forward to playing the game even though I had heard people complain about it. I was eager to play the game, got it the day it came out.
I had VERY high hopes going into playing the game, and Other M just shat all over those hopes. I played pretty much up to a little after the first appearance of baby Ridley. After a few hours of it I just did not have the motivation to play anymore. I haven't touched the game since that day just because I don't see the game as fun.

The funny part is that Captain Falcon and Wolf from Star Fox are REAL bounty hunters from Nintendo games. Sakurai acknowledges that Samus has the same job in both Melee and Brawl, both of which feature missions where she's competing for a bounty.
