I'd actually really love an all-inclusive Capcom inter-company fighting game. All franchises represented, and using a simple engine that's really flashy. Screw balance, it wouldn't be about that.

Of course, I'd really love for Capcom vs. Konami or Capcom vs. Nintendo to happen.

Apparently the team behind Mortal Kombat pitched the idea of Capcom vs. Mortal Kombat ten years ago.

It'd be stupid to do fighting franchise versus fighting franchise (other than CVS). Think of how staggeringly different games like Guilty Gear and Tekken are from the Capcom fighters. How would you combine the franchises into one crossover melee?

It seems like they couldn't even figure out how to make a crossover for Street Fighter and Tekken, they're making two games.

I guess it's probably because Street Fighter fans really don't want to play a Tekken game, and Tekken fans are a bunch of ham-handed babies who don't know how to play a real fighting game.

Capcom Fighting Jam was a fucking MESS. I don't think we're ever going to get another one of those, it sounded like it was nothing but headache after headache for Capcom.

But who knows, Capcom has recently found out how to print money, and they're desperate the crank out game after game of their bigger franchises.

Which is all well and good, but now we're starting to get games that don't seem all that exceptional, like Street Fighter vs. Tekken.

I mean, what's the world coming to. A new Mortal Kombat game is coming out that actually looks like its trying to balance the gameplay and Capcom is throwing out another 'VS' game that's even more flashy and broken than its predecessors. Yet MvsCapcom gets all the praise.

So they're gonna make 2 Street Fighter x Tekken games?

Either way, Capcom is seriously overdoing its involvement with the genre. Cash-in after cash-in after cash-in and nothing that really stands out. Both Tatsunoko and MVC3 look far more interesting than what they showed today, at least. Even SFIV does so, in fact.

I don't think I've seen enough to really judge it. It certainly seems to have less SPARKS LASERS AND SHIT FLYING ALL OVER THE FUCK like MvC2 and especially TvC had.

Granted, it seems like all we are seeing so far is people whaling on each other with very long combos, and then being whaled on by another long combo. I'd really like to see more gameplay videos of it before I judge, but it certainly seems crazier than 4, but it still doesn't seem to have the out of fucking control feel that MvC2 had.

Really, it almost reminds me of SF3, but, I'm dumb, and I really have no concrete reasons to base that on. Maybe I'm just hopin' too hard, but it seems like when you merge SF4 with MvC2, you'd wind up with something that would play like Street Fighter 3 vs Capcom.

I dunno, we still have like, nine months until this game comes out. Who really knows.

Not doubting that, but you don't have to copy and paste what he says... You could at least try to phrase it a little differently, not seem like a robot.

But, Capcom is rolling in cash, and SF4 was one of their biggest games in the last few years. I think it might even be the 17th best selling game of all time, Capcom has touched that spot since Street Fighter 2. So, now they want to strike while the iron is hot, and push out whatever they can while people are exited.

It's been fine up until now, we've gotten lots of great games out of them. But, really, as a Street Fighter fan, and a fucking Darkstalkers fan, I couldn't be any LESS excited about this.

Listen, I've been to Japanese Arcades. They're not as amazing as you'd think they'd be. It's four machines of Tekken, four of Street Fighter, and four of Blazblue. The rest is SHIT. Quiz games, photo booths, and Gundam games as far as the eye could see. I have more variety in my shitty Chinatown arcade.

    >Uhhhh SF4 hasn't done dismally, it's around the number 6-7 fighting game last I remember.
How many current fighting games are out there? I'd wager about 6-7. And you might want to check your memory, since when you include all arcade games, not just the fighting ones, SF4 is WAY bellow the 6th or 7th ranking.

    >And it's lack of penetration isn't because of the game, it's because it's expensive as fuck to put SF4 in your arcade, more expensive than all the games ahead of it in popularity.

Ok, now I know you're talking out of your ass. It might be too expensive to western arcades, since they can't maintain enough of a profit margin to justify the cost of a premium arcade cab, but in Japan a full SF4 kit is only a little over $2,000, which costs is as much, if not LESS than many of the more popular games in Japanese arcades. The fact that Capcom was even CONSIDERING not producing an arcade version of Super up until now says a lot.

It says the SF4 series is aimed directly at the west. Japan stopped giving a shit about SF a long time ago, since thier arcades didn't die, they got to see better franchises replacing it whereas the US ended with SF on top. Pretty obvious.

More misinformation. Home consoles don't come close compared to the arcade in generating the same kind of revenue ror genres like fighting and shoot em ups. For DS games and Wii Play? Maybe. But not for games like Street Fighter.

Yeah the arcade market isn't important enough to warrant releasing an expensive arcade machine designed to pander to a niche crowd. They released it because they decided to test the waters first, same shit they're doing with the PC version SSF4.

No point in catering to a market that just doesn't produce.
