Have you read Harry Knowle's theory on Woddy and Andy's father?

In two words he says Woody probably was a toy of Andy's father, and his only memory of him when he died (which happened before TS1, probably when andy was a very young child). Giving Woody meant Andy learned to accept the death of his father and move on, something he felt he had to do now that he was entering College.

I found it very interesting and I think it would have been a nice addition that would have added closure to this final part of the trilogy.
