    Okay /v/

Thinking about starting with the Half Life series.
Part 1 look really old, so I'd like to skip it and start with 2, but I'm afraid I'd miss something from the story then.

Can I just start with 2 or should I play 1 first?
    Is it important?
    >> Anonymous 05/25/10(Tue)12:26 No.60339XXX
I didn't the first game and I didn't feel like I was missing much.
    >> Anonymous 05/25/10(Tue)12:27 No.60339XXX
Play first one first you faggot.
    >> Anonymous 05/25/10(Tue)12:27 No.60339XXX
The first one is worth playing.
    >> Anonymous 05/25/10(Tue)12:27 No.60339XXX
The first one is kinda fun to play even today, but the graphics didn't really stood the test of time.

    >>60339532
Oooo the old one has bad gfx so it must be worse than the new one.
    >> Viktor Berg 05/25/10(Tue)12:28 No.60339XXX
HL1 is definitely worth a playthrough - although the graphics are dated, they will grow on you eventually.

Besides in the first one you can kill barney, and his twin, and his other twin, and his other one, oh and kill all the scientists, until the part you really need them
    >> Anonymous 05/25/10(Tue)12:29 No.60339XXX
Graphics don't make a game, it is really worth playing.
    >> Anonymous 05/25/10(Tue)12:29 No.60339XXX
    Play one, shit is awesome.

    >*One of the scientists somersault jumps through a window to escape headcrab zombies.*
    >"Holy SHIT You're awesome!"
    >Protect him from the zombies
    >Turn to him
    >"Good luck mate."
    >Make the leap of faith
    >Hell yeah.

I got to Xen in the first game and then just gave up.

I swear to God that planet is impossible.
    >> Viktor Berg 05/25/10(Tue)12:31 No.60339XXX
    >>60339890

It's very possible, but incredibly annoying due to all the jumping puzzles.

I loved xen and the rocket leaps you get to do

Not OP but I just checked that there's a Source engine version available of the original Half Life. Is there any difference to the original apart from the graphics?
    >> Viktor Berg 05/25/10(Tue)12:35 No.60340XXX
    >>60340117

There is virtually almost no difference:

    * Better water textures
    * Ragdolls
    * Crossbow pins enemies to walls

That is the whole difference. Valve was just making it as a show of how easy it's to convert GoldSrc maps to Source.
    >> Anonymous 05/25/10(Tue)12:35 No.60340XXX
Play the first one as it is actually a good game, in contrast to 2.

    This game was so amazing.

Now I play it and its a rails shooter with a lazy 'hidden deep' story.

Am I the only one not looking forward for another episodic dissapointment? :(

Half-Life's stories have always been good, not great. I don't see what all the hate about them is. They have a story, they just don't tell it to you straight up, you have go around digging for it. I guess if you want it spoon-fed to you than I can understand the hate.

Play Half-Life 1 OP, not for the story, but just because it's a great game.
    >> Viktor Berg 05/25/10(Tue)12:47 No.60341XXX
For Black Mesa, just check their wiki for recently uploaded files:

    HL1 story:

You push a thingie in another thingie and KA-BLOOM!

    Aliens everywhere

You fight your way to their home planet and kill a giant floating baby.

    The end.

    Half life's story:

Lab experiment goes bad, opens a gate to an alien planet. Aliens invade earth.
Man in blue suite acting all weird and seems to be in charge and gives you a choice at the end of the game to join him or die.

Half life 2 : The Gman ( man in blue suite ) takes you to the future, makes you run around in circles again acting as if you were che geuvara instead of just teleporting you right to the man with white's bear castle so you can destroy his machine.

episode 2: play more rebelion games, white beard man is trying to get you.

    That's about it

    Flat characters
    Dull story telling
    Very immersive yet unvoncincing world.
13 year old game, was ground breaking and amazing at it's time, made FPS go in a new direction.
HL 2 , a 6 year old game which brought nothing new or special to the market and people suck it's dick still as if it was the comming of jesus or something
