Sakai didn't even do the music for Mother 1 and 2. He's awesome, but the previous two are awesome as well, and there's actually some decent music on that site right now. Although nothing at his sort of level.

Who is this project being done by? Some guy called chase. Apparently. Here's the plot synopsis.

The biggest danger with a fangame is that it's going to try and imitate instead of innovate, and it's hard to see this one turning out any different. Especially with that synopsis on the website. I think it might be an involuntary thing.

I can't remember which game designer said it, it might have been Warren Spector or someone similarly respected. But what he said was the the greatest asset in designing your next game would be the person who hated your last game. I think there's an element of truth to that, I think if you know a formula and you like it you're just not going to want to do different things. I say find someone who hates the Mother series to death and have them work on the project.

MacGuffins are the random things (crystals, souls, medallions) you have to collect to beat the game. In interviews Itoi basically wondered why RPGs are nothing more than road trips for the party and said he'd always wondered what would happen to a town after you left it, thus what happens in Mother 3 for 75% of the game. I did. Mother deleted it's own save state and I lost all my data, and Earthbound has major graphical problems. It's playable for the first 20 minutes, but then I got to Frank and couldn't see shit.
