ps3 has a lower amount of games than its competitors, the 360 and Wii, but, in my honest opinion, the quality of the PS3's exclusives are superior to the exclusives of 360 and Wii. It is unfair that the better console this gen has a terrible reputation thanks to a dimwitted meme on /v/.

The 360 and Wii weren't in a much better position than the PS3.

thats stretching it a bit much, but in general you're correct, the ps3 had everything u needed in one box (except headset), but general public, and especially parents, don't know this shit, they just see the massive disparity in launch price and grab a 360 and go to the cash register.

It's funny to think, that back during the ps2 days, I hated sony so much, and refused to get a ps2, because I felt that the psxs and ps2s would break down too easily. The saturn had more of the games that I enjoyed, so I used to think the playstations 1 and 2 were mainly responsible for the premature discontinuations of the saturn and dreamcast.

Instead, I got an xbox1. and that truly lacked games. Now I view microsoft as the bad company, after witnessing the RRODs, especially after having worked on xbox game-testing. I always viewed microsoft as hurting the gaming industry, kind of like how EA is.

the PS3 redeemed my opinion of sony.

There were other factors of course. Sony had horrific PR, whereas Nintendo was really very appealing at the time. The faults that now seem apparent with the wii were practically immaterial at the time. The 360 wasn't fantastic, but it had gears of war, and personal tastes aside, you have to admit that was huge for microsoft. With that and Halo, They pretty much had the market of casual mcmanly shooters cornered, and everyone felt like they were putting out quality software.

The PS3 isn't in last place because of a stupid meme. It's in last place because it had no great exclusives for ages after launch, because it tried to sell at a ridiculous price (the "you have to buy extra stuff for 360" argument doesn't really hold well given the size of the gap), because it was a massive device for the first several years, because cross-platform ports were always (and are still often) better on the 360 thanks to Sony's retarded way of designing their console architecture the way they want it rather than the way developers want it, because it launched far later than the 360, and because Sony did everything possible to alienate gamers from their products before and after the PS3 launch. It's in last place because Sony did everything wrong, not because of some stupid /v/ meme.

They fucked up and they're paying for it, which is entirely fair. Better luck next gen.

You're wrong. The PS3 has a brief period of higher sales after the launch of the Slim, but that was... well, brief. The 360's been outselling it in both Europe and North America ever since. It has no foothold in Japan, but that doesn't matter - the sales gaps elsewhere more than make up for it. And the 360's still sold considerably more units than the PS3.

Apparently their first-party investments are larger than those of MS and Nintendo COMBINED. They're also the biggest publishers of games, counting both first-party and third-party publishers. Sony ain't on the lazy side when it comes to games and that makes me a happy owner of PS3 knowing that Sony will continue to pump out games for it even though third-parties have abandonded it as an exclusive platform.

I mentioned Europe in that post too. The reason I didn't give a link for European sales is because they're hard to track, since there's very few organizations there that bother to track sales and just about none that provide specific numbers. The fact that you actually came after me for only posting NPD sales shows that you don't know this, which proves you have no idea what you're talking about. Just like the fact that someone else has said that the PS3 is doing better in Europe outside of the UK when it's literally impossible to know which is doing better in the rest of Europe shows that they don't know what they're talking about either.

Sony have always been about continual investment and bulking up their first party studios and third party publishing deals. That's why I'm such a fan, I know they'll deliver games consistantly, even if they don't get the hype or sales of Halo or Mario, they deliver quality products.

Sony are a great publisher from a developer and gamer point of view, how many other publishers do you know would even allow a studio like Team ICO to continue or wouldn't force their first parties like Naughty Dog to produce their franchise hits like Jak and Daxter when the PS3 was struffling, instead letting them risk a new IP?

    >or wouldn't force their first parties like Naughty Dog to produce their franchise hits like Jak and Daxter when the PS3 was struffling, instead letting them risk a new IP?

They focused on making a action game that would attract more people to the console instead of a platformer. Same with Sucker Punch making a grimdark action game instead of a next gen Sly.

To me it's pretty obvious that the focus was shifted from platformers to action games to attract more people. I would have prefered a new J&D and Sly game instead of the mediocre action games we got.

I respect your opinion, but I prefer the 360 exclusive games to the PS3 ones. Halo, Fable, Rare games, Crackdown, Mass Effect and Alan Wake.

Killzone is muchos funos, so are Uncharted and Little Big Blanet, but I've been a huge Rarefag and Halo fan for the longest time, I couldn't give that up, and unfortunately I don't have the funds for another console.

If Sly Cooper ever returns to the PS3 I may consider dropping a few hundred on it, 'other than that, I don't expect I'll be a sonyfriendo anytime soon.

OP don't flatter yourself, /v/ has influence on dick.

PS3 is recognised as a superior system by people who work with games, and those who use the system - it has many benefits, and people are buying the system to be used as a blu-ray player, media centre, etc.

The same thing that happened with the PS2 will happen with the PS3, towards the end of the products life-cycle, we will see some of the best looking games ever seen on a console.

    Remember GTA3?
    Remember GTA:SA?

I used to love Rare. I really did. There's a reason Nintendo gave them up, though - all of their best talent's already left, and without them the company's gone so far downhill that I'm not sure it's possible to pull them back up. As for the rest... well, Mass Effect I can get on PC, so it's not especially exclusive. Fable I don't have much interest in - the first one on Xbox was fun but not exactly amazing, the second seemed to be more of the same, and I'm not even interested in the third at this point. Alan Wake doesn't look nearly as good as it was hyped up to be, and while I love Halo I don't really have any reason to every buy another one. As for Crackdown... okay, I'm honestly jealous of that one. With a PC, PS3, and first gen Xbox I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out on anything, though.

Natal will sell. Will it be good? Thats a whole another story.
It will sell only because of Microsofts aggressive campaign, which they are going to make, like they did with Halo or Gears of War.
But in terms of quality of softwares, 2-3 great things might come but will suffer from Wii-effect. People get hyped but get also bored very, very fast.

Sonys dildo won't be successful because Sony won't advertise it enough (or at all) and it now suffers from the same thing as PS3 suffered in launch: no games.

It's like people don't remember the price of the xbox and ps2 at launch anymore.

The PS3 was pretty cheap compared to what they asked for when the PS2 was released. Hell, alot of people haven't figured out that the price drop came from the lower cost of harddrives and bluray players. Think about it, harddrives pushing TB recently became accessible to the everyman at an everyman price.
I honestly loathe the day I have to buy new storage for my 360, due to Microsoft being tremendous sounders, but right now I'm looking forward to slapping my 1.5 TB drive into my Ps3.

But GTA:SA looked like total ass. Not to mention that the situation with the PS2 wasn't the same at all, because compared to both the competitors that didn't instantly sink it was hilariously underpowered. It just had a price similar to the competition, a good head-start, and some good exclusive that came to it before the other two ever got anything especially worthwhile... so basically, the exact opposite of what happened this generation.

As for developers preferring the PS3... what? No they don't. The PS3 is pretty developer-unfriendly, offering similar capabilities to the 360 but making them far more difficult to actually access. The only developers who say it's better are the ones who develop exclusively for it, and... well, they have obvious reasons to.

No. Adventure games have puzzles, they have actual challenge, they have gameplay... they're games. Heavy Rain has QTEs, but it only uses them to decide the outcome of scenes since having action in an interactive movie actually depends on SOMETHING that takes a bit of reflex or else it's... well, not interactive.

Heavy Rain's not really a game. Its characters can die, but it's designed to make it extremely unlikely for that to happen to all of them. There's no real lose scenario, no way for you to get "stuck" at a specific part (hell, even when looking for clues you can just leave before finding all of them)... just in general, it doesn't play at all like an adventure game, or any sort of game in general. People who call it an adventure game only do so because they don't want to admit that it's a game but don't know what other genre to put it in, so they just lump it in where anything with a plot ends up going when it doesn't fit elsewhere.

This is actually something I see a lot of people getting confused by.
Alan Wake was certainly presented as an adventure game, but in just about any review you read it turns out the game is very linear, it's a corridor shooter like Gears of War or Uncharted.

the ps1 was better then the n64
the ps2 was better then the xbox
and the ps3 is better then the 360

    its always the way
most kids nowadays have an xbox, since there parents have no control over these useless kids these days, they sit at home all day playing 360, they cant afford a ps3, so they rage about it

just ignore it, its more fun to watch them try to troll and fail hard at it
the ps3 is an amazing system
the 360 is a glorified dvd player.

now you watch and see all the angry 14 year old xbox kids that reply to this saying "nogaems" or some other useless shit, it wont matter im off now anyway, have a good one

You're both right. Heavy Rain has puzzles, but the game is constructed so that you can finish the game even though you didn't manage to solve it. You simply just affect the outcome.

Example: when Jaden is desperately trying to figure out who the murderer is.

Actually, it has a worse reputation due to Sony's sheer arrogance when they unveiled the cumbersome, expensive monster and expected everyone and their dogs to shell out $600 for a movie player.

Except there's nothing to "solve" in the crime scenes. You can find little clues. You can pick them up. But they aren't really puzzles - there's no hints or solving involved, you just look at things and talk to people. And like I actually mentioned in the post you were responding to (which you apparently didn't read thoroughly at all), you can SKIP most of that. You don't have to look at all (or even any, in some cases) of the clues, and the only difference they make is in some of the outcomes of the scenes and the end game.

Uh... no. You're pretty much guaranteed to figure out who the killer is regardless of whether you work out the clues (and actually, the first time I saw the game played through was watching someone else, and they DIDN'T solve it through the crime scene clues with Jayden... and the ending still involved confronting the killer). You're getting the full plot either way, and finding more or fewer clues (which isn't so much solving puzzles as walking around pressing buttons) only changes how "happy" or "sad" the different characters' endings are.

If you're saying that the PS2 was more expensive than the PS3 and you're using the $600 price point of the PS3 as the example for that then it doesn't matter, because the US is the country we're talking about. I can't believe you're enough of an asshat to think that comparing the price somewhere like Europe for the PS2 to the price in the US of the PS3 would slide without someone calling you on it.

The PS2 launched at a higher price in Japan than in North America. It was still far cheaper than the PS3. The PS2 launched at a higher price in most European countries than in North America. It was still far cheaper in ALL OF THEM than the PS3. The same applies pretty well everywhere else, so anyone saying the PS2 was more expensive is being a lying douche.
