Some, but not all. Depends on the games, really. Some more sad endings wouldn't hurt, IMO

Sad end as in bad end? No.
Bittersweet endings as in giving so much, watching friends fall around, main character being psychologically damaged by the things he does instead of an infallible hero with a pure and clean conscience? Yeah, we could use a few more of those. Nobody has the balls to write shit like that for the vidya anymore though.

I think I like realistic endings more than YEY HAPPY WOO endings. Why not throw sad endings in there every once in awhile? If it really pulls at your heart strings then you know the game really sucked you in.

It would. Realistic endings where they die or have post-traumas instead of ending happily really rock.

MGS4 is a good example. Snake killing himself would be sad but "good"

Just finished up Sengoku Rance, and loved the way the game ended up, the only innocent person in the game, who it builds up as being almost a little sister ends up getting raped, and you can't do shit to stop it, the only person you ever actually loved ends up taking a bullet for you, and can't be saved, and even though you saved the world, a good 60-70% of Japan is dead, and you had to watch most of the people who would have become your commanders get torn to shreds by the demon hordes just to give you a chance to stop the big bad.

In the original ending of MGS4, Otacon and Old Snake were executed for their crimes. Hence "Here's To You" being in the soundtrack.

Even the good ending is sad.
