I generally look at gameplay first. The only thing that would make me stop playing a game because the story is god aweful, would be if the gameplay was only passable by itself. For instance, I loved kingdom hearts even though the story was WORSE than typical jprg shit. But I couldn't even attempt to finish Valkyria Chronicles, because the gameplay was only meh at best, and the story made it unbearable.

What are we considering a good story here? You can have a generic, overused story and it can be riveting if you are a good storyteller. I loved the Mass Effect games like woah.
