Um. No thanks. This is the game that started the fall of decent MP in games. Now it's all "Deathmatch" in team oriented games, and Co-op is dropped to the side for 3-level long campaigns, or "Horde" modes disguised as Campaigns.

Halo 2 is a fucking blight on the world. It brought about the worst multiplayer community ever: The Halo Fanboys. And not only that, but it orchestrated the events which make lackluster sequels something that saturate the games industry. Along with too much "MP over SP" focus.

For me, I remember ALOT of games, random ones. But theres I do remember particularly. It was on ivory tower, I think the other team got the lead on us HUGE. Like, 20-40. Somehow, we made a fucking crazy ass comeback and beat them. I remember coming up on them from the shotgun spawn when they were camping the elevator lift area.

No. I complained that it's focus on MP over SP turned the entire industry into an oversaturated shitfest. No one is willing to take the time to put any money into making full-campaign Co-op because they're too busy shitting the games out as fast as possible, to get a MP Halo killer out.

Games like Modern Warfare 1 & 2 could have EASILY had a full campaign co-op, but opted out to make the multiplayer "lasting". Which is hilarious, because BFBC2 stole it's thunder. And instead of having a wonderfully replayable Co-op campaign like the Halo games, they have all have a repetitive as shit MP mode that gets one-upped by the next big thing.

Halo 2 did one thing right. The game is always fun to play back through with a friend.

What they did wrong was focusing on the Multiplayer, and showing other devs that they could get away with a 5-hour single player game for $50.

Halo 2's single player was the most disappointing thing in the last 10 years, to me. But the co-op is everlasting. But the focus shifting from the actual story to the multiplayer modes was a bad idea.

However, there are plenty of games that offer what Halo did. (Offered a full campaign 5+ hours, Co-op, enticing multiplayer game modes, etc)

It's unfair to blame the lack of quality single player games SOLELY on Halo 2. It did have a hand in the "Multiplayer is the Future!" wave that's around now, but it also added a lot of the features that we LIKE about current multiplayer games.

Gentlemen! Let's not argue. I'll share another amazing game. I was a tender 15-year-old lad, wearing the same shirt I am now (I dug it out of storage so I could wear it on the last day. Shoot me, I'm nostalgic).

My parents are yelling at me to get off the TV, I was hogging it setting up this "Live Box account or whatchamacallit". I finally set it up, and I convince them to let me play one game of Halo 2.

With my whole family watching, in my first game of Halo 2, I scrape out a win 22-20 in the last seconds with a needler(!) and then turn it off. I didn't think much of it at the time, but one of the people in that Rumble Pit game got 10 kills. It was his first game of all time as well.

Now, it's five years later, and only one of the guys from that Rumble Pit on Ivory Tower still plays. It was that 10-kill guy who never played before. I messaged him today for a rematch, one last one. Same map. Same rules. Same game. He's a 50. I'm a 35 on a good day.

Last time it was 22-10. This time it was 10-22. I don't think I've ever been happier to lose. It was his last game, the perfect contrast to his first.

Back in the day, it was the shit. But looking back on it, meh at best. It did have some of the best god damn maps ever though. Halo 3 has shitty maps, even Blackout fucking sucks.

I personally find the problem to be in the physics; it feels a bit floaty and unresponsive like Halo 1 did, but doesn't have the excuse of being awesome or having a built-from-scratch physics engine where they went about "constructing every object as if they were made of springs". I don't know what the fuck happened between Halo 2 and Halo 3. Halo 2 had amazing multiplayer maps (before the last map pack), amazing playlists, and amazing netcode. Somehow in Halo 3 they managed to shit all over zanzibar, lockout, blood guch. Takes twice as long to get into a game, and you are forced to play garbage gametypes like Crazy King and team rockets/swords. Despite all the hate this game gets, It was MILES ahead of any other console shooter, including it's garbage successor.

Hey xbros, PS3/Masterrace here. I've never had an xbox (or a 360 for that matter), but it must suck shit to go through this. I imagine a shitload of memories must have been made from this game. While I have had some good times at a friend's house playing it with many others in splitscreen, I never actually had the game. It was okay to me, but I can see the shit you're putting up with.

And it kinda makes me rage a bit inside. It's as if everyone is being brought together one final time before the world ends. And, honestly, fuck Microsoft for shutting the servers down.

The maps in Halo 3 are definitely much, much, MUCH, worse than Halo 2's. Valhalla is so fucking terrible compared to coagulation . They completely raped Zanzibar by adding extra camping areas and just bloating the map in general. Instead of playing on Headlong or turf you are stuck with shit maps like the ones with the gimmick doors and the one with flood shit everywhere. Halo 3 has some of the worst maps i have ever had the displeasure of playing, and in contrast Halo 2 has some of the best.

Alright, that is true. What they did to Coagulation is a travesty, and remaking Lockout as anything but a bright, snowy paradise was a mistake. Hell, remaking it at all was an error.

And honest to god, not much can compete with stuff like the original Zanzibar. You remember the first time you played 1-bomb or 1-flag on that, admit it. And your first Snipers match on Terminal, too. And that time in Waterworks where that Banshee got hit by the stalactite you shot at because you were bored.

You remember that time on Ivory Tower where you first heard the pounding and clawing at the steel garage door, and had no idea WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED. You remember your first superbounce. You remember when BXR replaced dual-wielding, when SWAT was only a custom game. You remember when you could use the sniper and sword, and lunge across the map.

Most of all you remember your friends. Win or lose, ragequit or celebrate, they fought with you, died with you, and even your most bitter losses were taken more easily with their presence.

Oh wow, you know what I would do? That air port level, with the bathroom. I'd go in there and hide like an ass. They'd try to open the door and i'd shut it. Eventually they started with charges to blow up the door, but it was a good troll the first time. Wolfenstein was another good before Halo game to play. Conker Live and Reloaded came after, but kicked massive ass.

I met someone very, very special to me through Halo 2. We've drifted apart lately, mostly because of me being an idiot, but I still think about her almost every day, and especially tonight.

I ended my Halo 2 career right where it started. Colossus.

It was a CTF game tonight. Gone were all the friends I used to have online during the glory days - where we once had people trying to squeeze into the party whenever the sixteenth person dropped out, we only had three this time.

But we fought just as hard as we ever did. The tides of battle went back and forth, slowly accumulating in our favor. Eventually it was 2-0, and we needed one more flag capture to win with a perfect score. We pushed the red flag all the way up, grabbing it from each other as we fell after downing the previous carrier's assailant. Right before an old friend of mine could capture the flag though, a red managed to drop him. I swung in, hosed him with my little SMG, and bashed his face in before grabbing the flag. I darted up the ramp as red players peppered me with fire, and planted that flag one last time.

Victory. 3-0.

And when the announcer proclaimed victory for us, I muttered one last thing, to her, wherever she is.

"Wish you were here."

They're shutting down ALL original Xbox games' multiplayer? What the shit... That's...

Oh, there are others. Halo.Bungie.Org, RoosterTeeth, This Spartan Life just to name a few. That was just an early one and a major one to boot. All of those were around from the early Halo 2 era at least (RT from early H1, HBO from before Halo was released). New ones come up all the time. HaloGrid used to be very important, then it was FUCKIN' SODAGOD for a while.

If you guys have any time, look up Jungle Trigonometry. It was a series written by one guy (the aforementioned Sodagod) while totally high and has some of the best comedic shorts ever done in Halo.

HBN was a Halo community in general. We played a bit into the Halo 3 era too, but I think CoD4 kinda shattered the more mature userbase. Most of us migrated to that or something else after it came out. At least a few of the guys I used to run with do nothing but play MW2 now.

Really, that's more or less appearing to be the same story across the board in the Halo fandom now. Halo 2 brought us together because that was all there really was back then, but now? Most of us moved on. We had to. And the Halo community as a result has suffered; you're now hard-pressed to find good, courteous, -fun- groups like HBN had back in the day instead of elitist MLG clanfags and spoiled brats.

It's a damn shame, but it's the truth.
