I just had a very peculiar thought /v/.

Okay, we all know that /v/ both simultaneously hates videogames and doesn't play them yet still talks about them all the time.

Could it be that /v/ suffers from self loathing of it's own hobby? Could it be from the (thankfully disappearing) stigma that video games are for children?

Most of us probably grew up under that stigma (27 years old here). Could it now, as evidenced by /v/'s consistently awful attutide, that /v/ hates itself for it's beloved hobby?

    Discuss.

    Samefag here
For me it's the stigma of video games is for children and the implication that other forms of media is superior.

I, for one, hate most television shows.

I do. I love my games. Currently Fallout 3 (PC), Just Cause 2 and I beat Red Faction Guerrilla just the other day.

I think I'm going to give Prototype another spin soon as well. I never finished.

Also getting the hankering to play Mercenaries 1 again. The sequel was ass squared.

    Pokemon is for children.
Over half of the people in /v/ are manchildren.

    Well played.

I think you're very correct. For myself, I much prefer to talk about the games and what's inside of them instead of playing.

Not what I was getting at, and I'm sad to hear you think so.

While I'm not a pokemon player myself, I firmly believe that you must take fun where you can find it.

Why does it have to be for children? Because it's cartoony? To my understanding, the systems and gameplay have gotten pretty tactical in the later releases.

Why does /v/ hate it's hobby so much? Is it embarassed?

I'm not embarassed of my vidya. In fact it's the first common interest I bring up when looking for potential dates. (Disclaimer: I'm a gaybro, so my dating dynamics are probably a little different...)

I think it's the speed at which games became an acceptable form of entertainment for all, when I was coming up, you got nothing but shit for playing games whether from parents, friends or girls.

In the past ten years there has been a tremendous influx of people that want to enjoy games as well but never played anything before games like CoD or Madden. Growing pains, man, it's getting crowded in here.

/v/ is a paradox. They exist everywhere. Why do hunters claim to love the forest yet kill the animals in it? Why do environmentalists drive cars? People are all hypocritical in some way

/v/ hates video games because it has no consensus on what a good game really is. That, and most people who post here have no middle ground between God and Shit Tier.

As for why no one here plays video games, it's because we enjoy discussing games that we share a common interest in so much that we stop bonding over the game and bond over the discussion. That, and you try talking to a large number of people in the real world who won't judge you for just playing video games.

    OP here.

    >>55871575

That's...new data. Hmm. Maybe I'm looking at this from too narrow a view.

In the modern world we define our existence in negatives. How often do you find people randomly talking about how good their day/job/life is? No, usually you hear people complaining about everything.

Here on the internet, 4chan especially, that is distilled into the purest form, thusly, negative conversation about everything.

I have to say though, this bothers me. Negativity doesn't feel good, and as human beings we're constantly seeking pleasure where we can find it...so why do we keep going back to negativity?
    >> Anonymous 04/14/10(Wed)23:51 No.55872343

Because humans are designed to NEVER be satisfied that's why we move forward

    >I have to say though, this bothers me. Negativity doesn't feel good, and as human beings we're constantly seeking pleasure where we can find it...so why do we keep going back to negativity?

Because I think most of us are either somewhat masochistic, or cherish the moments where we can connect with our fellow scum. Personally, while I'm an incredibly sensitive to criticism and negativity, I enjoy the fact that there are people out here who are in the same boat with me. Also, the rather low standards of 4chan means that, while you'll have to deal with the other shit that people put out, you are rarely judged on the quality of your own work. Finally, I honestly feel as though I've connected with some of the people here, even though I mainly post anonymously.

I guess, sometimes, we just have to take the good with the bad.

Most people on /v/ hate everything because, in essence, their opinion>your opinion.

Add to that the typical internet tough guy attitude you get online, voila. Welcome to /v/.
