I don't really care about Meyer's portrayal of vampires. Everyone has their own interpretation, and if you're going to portray them as a romantic figure you might as well make them sparkle.

What really irks me is how Edward and Bella's relationship is portrayed as positive. Hyper-obsessed girl throws her life away for a (literally) parasitic sociopath. He watches her through her window in her sleep, how romantic! He abandons her in the middle of the woods because people are chasing him and it's too dangerous for her to be with him anymore, how noble! He beats her into unconsciousness during intercourse, how sexy!
