I think they were way too trigger happy. Some fucks circled what they thought were AKs and RPGs but I didnt see a single fucking one.

To those of you who are just tuning in...
TLDR: Two camera men and a group of civilians were minding their own business in Afghanistan and some army fags thought they had guns. One guy took a picture of their helicopter and the armyfags thought it was an RPG and killed everyone. Then a van comes to try and take the wounded civilians (most of them were dead) to the hospital then the helicopter blows the van to smithereens. A full unedited video surfaced today.

They were only airborne in the first place because the platoon that arrives halfway through the video was taking small arms fire, and they were scouting around for potential threats. Regardless of what they actually were (allegedly cameras), their equipment was easily mistakable for rifles and when the camera man rounded the corner to "take a picture" of the helicopter, put yourself in their shoes. Your in a helicopter. You're in the middle of Iraq. Some guy is pointing a tube at you. In a hotzone. You're not going to wait for somebody to figure out whether it's really a RPG or not.

The part that sickened me was when they just shrugged off wounding little girl. "Oh well." "Don't bring your kids to a battle." That's the sort of thing that no decent human being should ever be saying. That's the stuff that shows you how cold and heartless these pilots are.

in the full video they identify that they suspect 6 men with militias, about 2 minutes in, before they fire, a guy peaks his head around a corner with what is probably an over the shoulder camera (i know because of context) which they suspect to be an RPG (they kinda start flipping out here through the stress in their voice and the increase in profanity.) They than get radio clearance to fire, and do so to suppress the target (normal military action) when the van gets up, they're is still a measure of stress within the voices of the pilots and they assume that it may be some sort of back-up, which may threaten the nearby american convo

Yes they fucked up, yes they should be held responsible, no they aren't "blood lusting amerifags", no this isn't unique to only the US military or anything, it just so happened to be high profile news reporters and got leaked on the web

Even a "small" risk like that is a risk.
When it comes to military matters and unconfirmed weaponry you don't fuck around, the smallest delay could cost you your life.
They thought it was SOME kind of rifle or rocket launcher, they didn't know what it was, there had been reports of small arms fire in the area.

Was it bad that people died?
Yeah.
Were the chopper pilots saying "incriminating" things?
Yeah.
Do almost all other chopper or C-130 gunship gunners say similar things?
Yeah.
Was it their fault?
Fuck no.

It's a terrible thing but there's no going back and it wasn't the gunner or the pilot's fault because THEY GOT CLEARANCE TO FIRE.

There weren't any shots being fired at the chopper, the guys didn't appear to be making any hostile movements (they were hanging out in the middle of an open courtyard).
