I live in Phoenix and the first
ever Internet Cafe I went to was on Halloween 5 or so years ago. It was
opening night for the cafe in a small strip-mall with a Safeway and a
Leviathan (board games like 40k, they also had 5 computers, shitty
prices though). I was about 14 and my dad took my brother and I.
Apparently my dad (who also builds computers) met the guy when he
started laying in the ground floor for the place and needed an AC
installed (my dad's field of work).
The place is still open to
this day, runs top of the line computers, holds tournaments for most
Steam games, and has almost every game imaginable for PC since early
2000. The normal going rate now-a-days is 5$ an hour; however they have
2$ tuesday and on weekends 20$ gets you an all day pass. Since my dad
installed a few thousand dollars worth of equipment and charged him
close to nothing, I have a life-time discount at 2$ an hour.
The
hours are great too. 10AM-10PM weekdays and sunday, 1PM-1AM Friday and
Saturday. He'll even stay open till 4AM on Fri-Sat if there's more than
10+ people. They also do "all-nighters" which are a blast. From 8PM to
8AM they host all kinds of tournaments and deal out some free pizza +
drinks.
When I was younger I loved going, almost every day after
school you could find me there. But my interest in gaming has kind of
plundered. Not as in to CS and BF like I used to be, and most games in
general just bore me now-a-days; guess I must of burnt myself out hah. |
