My computer wasn't connecting properly to the network at home once, something about not being able to set an IP.

So I get my brother to have a shot at fixing it, as I wasn't very tech-savy at the time.

My father somehow managed to work his way into the room, and wondered why my internet wasn't working. I told him not to worry and my brother would fix it.

He gets frustrated and tells me he will have a look at it.
He says "Where is internet explorer?"
"Nah, I actually lost the shortcut.. just open firefox"

"WELL NO WONDER YOUR INTERNET ISNT WORKING YOUVE CHANGED THE WHOLE FUCKIGN COMPUTER YOU ARENT EVEN USING THE SAME INTERNET AS US NOW YOU IDIOT YOUVE CHANGED ALL THE SETTINGS WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR INTERNET LIKE THAT FFFF"

My mom is fully aware that there are real people on the internet, as she will only mouth words whenever she sees a pair of headphones on my head until I confirm that nobody can hear her or it's just my cousin.

We also had a good laugh when his mom called her up, very distraught that her son was "talking to the computer" and very worried for his mental health.

    This

I work in IT and had to help a lady for over an hour to link her outlook to her new email because she had to read every single thing.

Otherwise, my parents aren't too bad. My dad trusts that I know what I'm doing, so he just listens to me. But my mom still doesn't trust anything that I do. Even though, as I said, I work in IT. She tries to tell me all these things she figured out or read about that I tried to teach her months ago, ugh.

When I was 12 or so, me and my cousins were really into Diablo 2. We would constantly go onto Open Battle.net and trick people into giving us their black/white armor or other hacked items. Obviously, they'd get pissed, and we'd get the usual I HACK UR PC FEGIT response. We thought nothing of it, since we had more than enough sense to take them seriously.

One day, I went over to their house, and my aunt started saying I owed them a new computer. Apparently, she had tried using their computer, and when she found that it was acting slow, she questioned my cousin about. He told her that people from Diablo 2 were hacking it because I scammed them out of items.

Someone post that comic that has the kid's parents make him go out and have social interaction but then he realizes vidya is better.

It has a girl complaining that she needs a new iPod because hers is ugly.

I feel sorry for you Americans and your goddamn ignorant excuse for a set of parents. With such fucking stupid examples to guide your life it's no wonder there's so much frustration. I always rejoice when I hear about parents who actually give a damn about their child's interests (like mine). But those seem to be the exception over there in 'murka.

Some of you need to just get up and confront your parents over it. And don't go telling them they should listen to you more (to a parent, that sound fucking ridiculous). Instead, tell them they need to show some more genuine interest in the life of their son.

You know what's funny? You guys make fun of your parents for not understanding you or your hobby, and the resulting ignorant statements they make.

But how much do you really know about your parents? Do you even know what kind of work they do, other than superficially? Can you name one of their colleagues? Does your mom or dad have a special interest they spend a lot of time on? Why is that? In fact, even if your parents watch TV 8 hours a day, there's usually a certain pattern to the things they watch. You can learn about their interests from there. But you didn't bother, did you?

Shame on you, you hypocritical, egocentric, self-righteous children.

My parents divorced when I was about 8ish. My younger brother and I spent every other weekend with him, and he hated how we brought our consoles. Eventually he got over it, and being a poor bachelor, he realized it was cheap fun for us if he just rented a game. He did the best with what he had. I love my father.

Then, when I was 13, we discovered Aerobiz Supersonic for the SNES. His eyes glazed over, and he would kick our ASSES at it, and me and the brother were happy about this; he was showing interest in something WE liked, and not just dragging us to car shows and shit we didn't care about.

    I love my dad.

Apparently my mom did not know how tv's actually work. I even tried explaining it to her but she did not want to hear it.

But when I demonstrated about 8 years after I played my PS2 on that same big screen by setting up a Nintendo Wii system, She Learned to Stop Worrying the Screen Burn and Enjoy the Vidya.
