Oblivion is ridiculously easy, run around, hit people with your foam sword, they die after a few hits, heal yourself.
Stats mean virtually nothing.

most important tip is to set all the skills you will use a lot as minor skill.

Illusion can be used for Chameleon and Invisibilty. Really, it just makes the game EASY MODE.

Hint: Try to update your equipment as often as possible. As monsters get stronger along with you, if you don't upgrade as you go you will get screwed over.
Oh, and I recommend a nude mod. It wouldn't change gameplay much, I just like to strip the corpses of my female enemies for my sick mind. (Pity you can't dress up the corpses in this game.)

I'd like to think the stealth system is pretty good, it's effected my Line of sight, Lighting (shadows are better, duh), The amount of noise your armor makes (which is next to nothing with light armor), How fast you're trying to sneak. Also, don't knock anything over when sneaking.

Read carefully what the stats and specs do, it's all described.

If you want to get filthy rich pretty fast, take Alchemy in your character build. It's time consuming, but after a while, you will be literally rolling in cash

Download tons of mods, they really enrich your gaming experience.

To be frank, arrows are hard to snipe with as they don't fly like a bullet. They curve.
If you want long-distance sniping, as in hitting someone when they are just barely visible, I recommend offensive spells. I can fry enemies one at a time, and often the other enemies don't know where that came from.

I have basically gave up on the warrior lifestyle and went full mage. If you are going to snipe, you don't need armour.

I did this. It worked, but felt like a hollow victory. Go onto the pirate ship in the dock at the imperial city, then run to a guard. The pirates try and kill you, and the guard attacks them. You either get a dead guard and guard loot or dead pirates and dead pirate loot.

Deadly Reflex combat mod.

Makes combat much harder/faster/deadlier (the Arena is actually a challenge), introduces fatalities (head crushing/removal, impaling) which NPCs can use on you too. Adds a bunch of new dodge etc. buttons which almost work, and there were plans to add horse combat.

This was the state of it when I last played, so hopefully it's moved on by now.

Right after you are out in the open, you are free to do whatever. Though I recommend that you deliver the amulet to the place the game wants you to go to, in order to receive a free horse and some weapons and armour.
