Working at EBGames isn't as bad as you guys think. You think employees like to upsell pre-orders and Game Informer subscriptions and etc? We hate it as much as you guys do, but it's our job, and the number of shifts/hours we get depends on if we can upsell good or not.If you want to get on an employee's good side, go in with like 50$ and pre-order 10 games. You will get mad props from the CSR who serves you. We get a +1 in our name for each pre-order. You can cancel the pre-order, but only after a week. If you cancel the same week, it negates the +1, but if you cancel a week later, we keep the point.

Gamestop is weird about hiring. My friend is friends with the managers, so by extension my friend, and he said personally he prefers to hire people with BID NEZZ experience. Basically, Gamestop is all about being part con-man and talking people into buying all kind of game/game accessory they don't need. One day I was in there browsing for an old PS2 game to play and a guy came in wanting to buy Mario Kart DS for his kids for Christmas. He ended up leaving with a Wii, an extra controller and nunchuk, Wii Fit and Mario Kart.Holy shit.
>don't work at any game shop>Be a manager at subway>Get free cookies, subs and drinks whenever I work>All the workers like me and actually ENJOY coming to work cause we play our music, do fuck all except serve>have friend who is manager at EB Games>Free food for 70% off / free gamesGLORIOUS.
>>52259782Also, the only reason some CSRs are smug dicks is because they only joined the team for the benefits. There are a SHITLOAD of amazing benefits, but I joined because I need experience to spearhead me into game journalism. We get to borrow games without paying, get games early (I've had God of War 3 for a week and Pokemon a few days now), get 15% discounts on everything, get the extra warranty/scratch repair for free, etc.

>>52260004If you think you're going to be a gaming guru or whatever, you're sorely mistaken. Game knowledge accounts for 15% (according to training videos) of what you do at EBGames/Gamestop. Some managers advise against giving game advice to customers because they want customers to buy used games regardless of price, pre-order x game regardless if you want it, etc. EBGames is first and foremost a business, and your needs are pretty low on their priorities.I'm moving up the corporate ladder and hope to work in HO. I need the managerial experience, and hope to establish some new policies for EBGames nationwide (sticker policies, upselling, etc).
You will never get hired at a Gamestop unless you have connections to at least one person within the company. True story.

>>52260268Working isn't all about the money. I know I'll be greentexted, but part of having a job for me is having experience to land a better job in the future. On a resume, working at Gamestop as a manager, even though it's a fraction of what a factory worker makes, is much more appealing to future employers.

>>52260189Nah, I know that my game taste sucks ass anyway. I'd just like to think of myself as a part of a gaming industry (even if it's the lowest link in the chain) and an opportunity to be sorrounded by games. And the cheaper games perks and stuff like that :)
>>52260422>cheaper gamesI like free games best.
>>52260466Sometimes I let my employees have games for free. Generally, anything under 20$ or in the bargain bins are up for grabs because HO needs bins empties. The whole reason we have bargain bins is because every store is insanely overstocked. My store keeps consoles in the washroom, for example, because we have literally no space. I have a few boxes of used games at home because there is NO SPACE.
>>52260422op here. agreed.
I used to work at a game store. I got so many boners when hot girls came in the store. The biggest was when a girl wanted to buy Armored Core 4A and we started talking about mech building and geeky shit, it was the best. But usually the girls are looking for wii shit.

>>52260572like this one?
>>52260572My store gets a fair bit of "hardcore" gamer girls. I've had a few manbeasts hit on me and other employees. When someone asks a CSR out on a date, we always give a fake number and act nice because this usually makes them become happy and allows us to upsell easier. I have a shtload of stories of weird customers and even more about weird employees I had to let go because they were fucked n the head.

Try getting real jobs. When I graduate with my third mate's license I'll be making at least 60k, 100 if I can land a job with MSC. and it only gets better as you upgrade your license. A Chief Mate's or Master's license will make it rain.

>>52260885Wait wait waitYou're not prepared to work at a place 6 and a half kilometers away? You can like walk to there...
>>52260952>mad that he doesn't have any USD
>>52260833Whenever someone asks, we always say we aren't hiring. New employees means less hours for everyone, and no one likes it. Whenever my store hires a new person, usually one of my older employees says "fuck this shit" and quits. I lose a good employee, and get a new employee who knows nothing about anything. It is not a good trade-off.A good way to get a call is to have not only a filled out application, but also a good resume. Gamestop usually only takes an application, but staple the resume to it and hand it in. Have zero references on either. If we get a resume/app with references, we will phone them and usually be disappointed. If you don't give any and we are at least interested, you'll get a call and by the time you're asked for references, we would have lost money if we didn't hire you. True story. This is what I did when I applied and it worked first try.

>>52261151Get your friend to give the application to the manager. I'm dead serious when I say an employee recommendation is worth more than any retail experience you could possibly have. Gamestop could be your first job if you got a good word put in for you.Another good way to put your foot in the door is to become friendly with the staff. Learn their names, be in the store often, but try not to be creepy near the female employees. Being familiar with the environment also goes a long way.
>>52261108Newfag do you know how the (shit-)job market goes? Most entry-level jobs are flooded with resumes and applications, they only shortlist a few to contact (sometimes at random or if they approve of the typeface or your handwriting, or if they have a minority quota to meet). I know several managers of shitty places that attest to doing this. The only way around it is to not be picky and apply to as many different places as possible, with as strong a resume (or portfolio) as possible.

>>52261295I've done all of that.I've even gone so far as to help out a customer or two when an employee was stumped.I think the only employees i'm not on good terms with is the ones they have working 1-1:03 on sunday afternoons every other weekend.

>>52261447It's a little more complex than this. Never show initiative by helping a customer. I've kicked out people who try to flaunt their knowledge and help customers. As I sad, our priority is to make money, as a business should. We try to convince customers to buy x product and y preorder, not give them an alternative. Here's a few things that will almost always not land you a job at EB/GS:- Be in highschool.- Be 16.- Dress innapropriately when dropping off app/resme.- Can't speak English properly.- Of a visible minority (I'm not lying).

Also, seriously last bit of advice. Hightime to apply at EB/Gamestop is Oct/Nov and Apr/May. Give your resume directly to the manager. If the manager isn't there, come back another day. Some employees wll throw your resume out.
