Working at EBGames isn't as bad as you guys think. You think employees like to upsell pre-orders and Game Informer subscriptions and etc? We hate it as much as you guys do, but it's our job, and the number of shifts/hours we get depends on if we can upsell good or not.

If you want to get on an employee's good side, go in with like 50$ and pre-order 10 games. You will get mad props from the CSR who serves you. We get a +1 in our name for each pre-order. You can cancel the pre-order, but only after a week. If you cancel the same week, it negates the +1, but if you cancel a week later, we keep the point.

Gamestop is weird about hiring. My friend is friends with the managers, so by extension my friend, and he said personally he prefers to hire people with BID NEZZ experience. If you think you're going to be a gaming guru or whatever, you're sorely mistaken. Game knowledge accounts for 15% (according to training videos) of what you do at EBGames/Gamestop. Some managers advise against giving game advice to customers because they want customers to buy used games regardless of price, pre-order x game regardless if you want it, etc. EBGames is first and foremost a business, and your needs are pretty low on their priorities.

I'm moving up the corporate ladder and hope to work in HO. I need the managerial experience, and hope to establish some new policies for EBGames nationwide (sticker policies, upselling, etc).

My store gets a fair bit of "hardcore" gamer girls. I've had a few manbeasts hit on me and other employees. When someone asks a CSR out on a date, we always give a fake number and act nice because this usually makes them become happy and allows us to upsell easier. Whenever someone asks, we always say we aren't hiring. New employees means less hours for everyone, and no one likes it. Whenever my store hires a new person, usually one of my older employees says "fuck this shit" and quits. I lose a good employee, and get a new employee who knows nothing about anything. It is not a good trade-off.

A good way to get a call is to have not only a filled out application, but also a good resume. Gamestop usually only takes an application, but staple the resume to it and hand it in. Have zero references on either. If we get a resume/app with references, we will phone them and usually be disappointed. If you don't give any and we are at least interested, you'll get a call and by the time you're asked for references, we would have lost money if we didn't hire you. True story. This is what I did when I applied and it worked first try.

Get your friend to give the application to the manager. I'm dead serious when I say an employee recommendation is worth more than any retail experience you could possibly have. Gamestop could be your first job if you got a good word put in for you.

Another good way to put your foot in the door is to become friendly with the staff. Learn their names, be in the store often, but try not to be creepy near the female employees. Being familiar with the environment also goes a long way.

It's a little more complex than this. Never show initiative by helping a customer. I've kicked out people who try to flaunt their knowledge and help customers. As I sad, our priority is to make money, as a business should. We try to convince customers to buy x product and y preorder, not give them an alternative.

Here's a few things that will almost always not land you a job at EB/GS:

- Be in highschool.
- Be 16.
