  • Over the past 48 hours 4chan's formspring page has gotten over 12,000 questions, and I've received over 3,000 e-mails. Many thanks to everyone who submitted a question, and sent me a message! I was able to respond to a few hundred e-mails and had hoped to start answering questions on formspring, but it seems that the number of questions broke the page. Once that's sorted out, I'll sift through them and answer as time allows.

    In other news, /rs/ now processes MediaFire/MegaUpload/and a bunch of other links correctly (this had been broken for months). The old links should be updated in about a week (the checker is taking a while).

    They made it so that regardless of how much juice you use after activating it, if it's over 25% it automatically drops to 25%. Furthermore any ammo drop you go through only recharges by about another 25%. So you end up sitting around waiting for it to recharge a lot more.

    They compensated by making the fake death more convincing and by making it less noisy, but it still kind've sucks. Particularly as Pyros remain ridiculously overpowered against Spies.     It's not as simple as that. No other class is as completely and easily fucked by there being another class on the field. Against Pyro's main enemy the Heavy for instance, he's got the Axtinguisher. Sniper meanwhile got not one but two anti-Spy weapons in his pack. What did the Spy get? The ability to stand still for very long periods of time, a fairly mediocre gun and the admittedly awesome DR, which now requires a fair amount of thought to get the most out of. It's not really fair.

    As for the sniper, you mean the jarate and razorback? Three shots at max while kill a sniper with the revolver, making the razorback useless, and jarate is really only good if you failed to kill him the first time.     I don't really like playing Pyro, it's too easy and not very much fun.

    I'm still spying better than ever since the DR...change (not going to call it a nerf, the quieter sound is very helpful).

    Soldier with the rocket launcher + buff banner is absolute power and I hope to God Valve never nerfs it.

    I only really have fun with the Engineer during the times where I put my sentries in ridiculous / surprising spots.

    I think I need to start playing Sniper more. I gave up on the Huntsman because spamming it and receiving kills every 2 seconds wasn't very rewarding for me, I prefer being an actual Sniper. At this point I'm tossing up between the SMG and Jarate.

    That's my two cents on playing TF2, although since uni started the only day I have designated to play with friends is Monday night. Valve better not release a bunch of awesome things for it any time soon.

    Equalizer does need a nerf, sure you have low health but it gives you so much utility! You can now escape if you want to, or you can do a berserker charge and one shot several classes. You can give yourself the speed boost whenever you like!

    At least the Demoman requires 2 item slots and heads to make the sword worthwhile. Equalizer just requires itself and you to take damage and that's it.

    With the equalizer to be useful, Soldier's need to have very little health, otherwise they're just Scouts that refuse to use the guns and can't be healed. And, if their health is that low, any gun will kill them in on shot.

    Sure, but that's the point. It only works in certain situations. If a pyro keeps flanking you in this way, switch to a more suitable class. Same thing with spy. If pyros keep ripping your shit apart, switch classes, or switch tactics. I regularly kill pyros or avoid them as spy.

    I earned the BackBurner early on and equipped that shit for life, killing from behind was so cash, but recently, I find that the compression blast is fucking awesome troll of a dickmove.

    Plus whenever I get knocked with a CompBlast, I shit bricks. It's nice to know I can instill that fear in my enemies.

    Also, can you kill someone with a direct hit of compression blast?

    He's more like a Spy with Scout's speed. If the enemy is distracted or doesn't see him coming- and if the player uses him like a Scout/Spy it can be- it's a OHK with no chance of getting away. He also gets the ability to just run away if things are getting too hot for him, something I find a bit much if you're playing Heavy particularly.

    I play spy a lot, and thoroughly enjoy it. Although I DO admit that pyros are a major pain in the ass, understandably they are the anti spy class, and that this fireproof suit could come as a new meaning for spies, replacing the revolver with it is absolutely ridiculous! I use my revolver all the time, from taking down sentries, to eliminating razorback snipers. And even sniping scouts with the ambassador. It's insane to trade my revolver for that!

    It's all about scenario and playstyle.

    You need to be a defensive, or at least flanking pyro to use backburner any well at all. And, compression blast is really only useful against rockets, grenades, huntsman arrows (although, you have to be particularly good to deflect those), and possibly against an ubered medic. If you find yourself facing off against other classes, or people that don't use those tactics, or if you find yourself getting enemies from behind a lot, then you'd best equip the backburner.

    That said, I never go into battle with backburner unless I'm sure the compression blast is useless in that match; it's better to have a compression blast and not need it than need it and not have it.

    Do you not play Soldier? Or are you shit at it? There are plenty of times when playing that you'll be in a tight quarters situation and firing your Rocket is going to kill you. Rather obliterate them with the most powerful melee attack in the game in 1-2 swings than kill us both. You just don't know when to switch to melee.

    Playing as an anti-spy myself, I can say this is a fair trade. If you can disappear again without afterburn giving you away, there's no way you should be able to surprise around a corner with a revolver drawn. You try a backstab again, I'll keep a better look out.

    I really wish the Spy, and every class for that matter, recieved more unlocks like the Dead Ringer. It's unique, useful, and offered a different variation of Spy gameplay. The Ambassador and Cloak&Dagger were just slighty modified versions of their original weapons, but that's not what makes me dislike them. It's that they add absolutely nothing new. It's possible to only slighty modify a weapon, and yet still offer a new type of gameplay (the Scottish Resistance, with a few balance tweaks that actually supported the point of the unlock, would be a fine example). But those two unlocks failed to achieve even that.

    No. However, one useful thing most people don't know about the blast- if you use it while you're using the flame, it extends the reach of the flame a bit. Often times I've been using my flamethrower and my enemy is out of range, and then I throw in a blast and it extends it enough to ignite them.

    I think equalizer would be perfectly balanced if the attack time was increased. 0.8 seconds is too fast for something that can instakill; make it long enough so that the other classes have a chance to melee them to do death.

    Perhaps make it so that attack time increases as health decreases as well?

    Yes, while this may be true, that only applies for ambushes, and ambushes seldom happen with a revolver unless it is against a spy and very rarely a soldier. If the enemy is unaware of your presence then a backstab is the way to go, and then as you have mentioned negating the afterburn on second thought WOULD make for a very smart choice for a sneaky spy who wants to live long, but at the cost of a gun it is rather poor for the battlespy. Still It is a somewhat fair trade on account that there is only so much to take away.

    The Compression Blast has far, FAR more versatility than the Backburner. Yes, the Backburner can kill quickly in certain circumstances, but the Compression Blast has a far greater chance of being an asset during a match.

    Absolutely. The Ambassador was an absolute nothing of a sidegrade. The C&D does nothing except encourage crap camping tactics.

    Meanwhile the Demoman recieves a super awesome update, where he has the choice to become a completely different bezerker class, or a cunning multiple trap layer.

    Some people were asking about the Dead Ringer nerf. I think it was something like, de-cloaking early will automatically set it down to 60% charge and when you pick-up an ammo crate to refill the charge, the most you can get is 35%.

    The ammo crate nerf has slowed me down a bit, otherwise, I cut the other team to ribbons with the Dead Ringer.
